A trap I fall into, and I see other devs do too, is mistake “clever design” with “fun design” Sometimes you design something cause it’s fun TO DESIGN, but not necessarily fun TO PLAY. And because you know the solution you don’t know that Often times making something fun isn’t actually fun work lol

I think part of me wanted my game to be a lil inscrutable and cryptic in a way fromsoft games are, and less “gamey” but I think that’s way too advanced for me as a beginner dev I should just stick to the basics and try to do them rly well. Focus the challenge in areas where people can’t be confused

I feel like something about level design just started clicking with me more after seeing so much live playtesting. Communicate challenges clearly, give players easy to use tools for the challenge, and reward them when they complete them. Stuff I all knew, but only set in when I saw ppl struggle

I’ve HAD a thing for him too and I still don’t rly get it. Like there’s no reasonable way you can explain to someone the crazy lil guy is hot …but sometimes the animators draw him REALLY handsome and appealing and it always stuck with me as a kid. One of my first crushes lmao
