This is good, however a lot of these states have guardrails for this stuff they're refusing to enforce so it's kinda hollow. The IL Human Rights Act is not being enforced on hospitals that refuse to continue trans care in IL, for example, the state the lead writer is the AG of.
Article; https://chicago.suntimes.com/health/2025/07/29/chicago-hospitals-are-scaling-back-trans-care-for-youth-a-rapid-response-team-is-stepping-in

That’s one reason trans advocates and families are calling on Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Attorney General Kwame Raoul to do more to protect trans rights.

“So often we see elected officials say they stand with us in private, and in public play the neutral, and we’re seeing that now,” McMaher said. “It’s disheartening, and it harms our children because they’re looking for it. They’re watching.”

The Illinois Human Rights Act prohibits health care providers from discriminating against patients because of their gender identity.

But Raoul has declined repeated requests to explain how hospitals in Chicago aren’t violating the law. In April, he told WBEZ he didn’t see Lurie or Northwestern as “a bad actor.” “You can’t (be) said to be acting discriminatory when the federal government is holding a gun to your head,” he said.

Dozens of families and advocates have written to Raoul asking him to enforce the law and demand that hospitals keep providing treatment. In a statement, a spokeswoman for Raoul said federal agencies are using government resources to attack health care providers and “are driving a wedge between patients and the providers they need. The Attorney General’s office will take additional action soon to protect access to medically necessary health care for transgender patients.”

Pritzker has defended hospitals, too. Advocates and families know Raoul and Pritzker support trans rights, but they want them to hold hospitals accountable. They point to how much these politicians have publicly supported abortion care, such as at press conferences alongside abortion providers and legally fighting to protect access.

“I think the frustration for a lot of parents is that Illinois consistently touts itself as a safe state ...

what views could these be, I wonder
Q. In Spain, when people talk about identity politics, such as feminism or the LGTBQ+ movement, they are sometimes criticized as collectivist. In your book, they seem to have their roots in classical liberalism, in the affirmation of individual rights.

A. Identity politics arise because certain groups are discriminated against or marginalized. And it’s perfectly legitimate to use identity as a means of social mobilization to push back against marginalization. I think that identity politics becomes problematic in a liberal society when one’s fixed identity becomes the most essential thing that one knows about somebody, when you’re making judgments about people simply on the basis of their membership in a group and not what they’ve accomplished as individuals. There’s an acceptable liberal version of identity politics, but I think it can be very problematic.

Q. These groups are sometimes accused of fostering a “cancel culture.” Does such a culture exist?

A. In certain parts of the United States and other countries you have a very intolerant form of progressive politics that really does not want alternative views to be expressed. And so, yes, people are cancelled and fired from [their] jobs or shouted down. And that’s particularly problematic when it happens in universities, because universities are dedicated to free expression and the free exploration of ideas. [This is] a dangerous trend that’s been promoted by a certain version of identity politics.

important to keep in mind that they're coalescing around specific holes in civil liberties we've tacitly accepted; they get to paint anyone as a terrorist, then take away their rights based on that assertion (not even conviction, per the article referenced in the alt text) by the state.
In March, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stripped Turkish doctoral student Rümeysa Öztürk’s of her visa based on what a court later found was nothing more than her opinion piece critical of Israel.

Now, a bill introduced by the chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee is ringing alarm bells for civil liberties advocates who say it would grant Rubio the power to revoke the passports of American citizens on similar grounds.

tbh the direct quote makes it seem a lot more like he just derailed the question to talk about SSRIs this is not a good thing (SSRIs are important!) but I think the focus is not really on trans people at this specific moment and a lot of folks are apprehensive because they expected it to be
Kennedy answered, “We are doing those kind of studies now. At [the National Institutes of Health], we’re launching studies on the potential contribution of some of the SSRI [selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor] drugs and some of the other psychiatric drugs that might be contributing to violence. You know, many of them have black box warnings that warn of suicidal ideation and homicidal ideation. So we need, we can’t exclude those as a culprit.”

We are now seven months into the new administration, and no CDC subjject matter expert from my Center has ever briefed the Secretary. I am not sure who the Secretary is listening to, but it is quite certainly not to us. Black voters often faced a presidential election of "Racist, And" v. "Racist, But," and turned out to support the latter.

That didn't make them okay with racism, and didn't make anyone stop fighting to nominate non-racists.

I don't think it's unreasonable for other groups to apply similar logic.

One thing of note is how large and strong the LGBT voter bloc has become.

LGBT people made up 8% of the vote, and voted D+74, remarkably similar to Black voters (11%, D+72)

Without LGBT voters, this environment goes from R+1.5 to R+6, and the map looks a LOT different

There are two avenues to complain about this logic, the first (and imo kinda worse but more practical) avenue being just...The Chart. There is a cap, not everyone is trans, and most people who are trans are going to be that way and just suffering if you try to oppress them (which may be the point)

The sad part of all this is that the optimistic way to look at it is we've overestimated the electorate; people don't know or believe that Trump is going to do bad things. The other possibility is that we haven't overestimated people, we've underestimated the size of the "I voted for Hitler" crowd

An important thing to highlight here is that there is no "winning" on the things Republicans want to clamp down on. If you cede ground you don't pick up voters, you just lose things actually important to people. (passage shamelessly stolen from @edburmila.bsky.social )
book passage;
won over by this infliction of cruelty? Well, according to one veteran lf toe Obama White House: "There was a feeling that [Obama] needed to show the American public that you believed in enforcement, and [that we weren't pushing for] open borders. But in hindsight I was like, what did we get for that? We deported more people than ever before. All these families separated, and Republicans didn't give him once ounce of credit. There may as well have been open borders for five years." OK, so zero. It won zero votes. Republicans accused Democrats of being open-border lovers anyway, and Democratic voters who cared about immigration felt betrayed, like they were sold out in an attempt to satisfy the right. Great.
