A wonderfully posed, windblown wolfwood mid-battle. He’s like a new shape of pasta noodle, if a pasta noodle were cool and sexy and a little endearingly embarrassing with a flavor of gruff-vulnerable-competent-playful gap moe so irresistible you just have to keep shoveling it into your mouth. He’s in one of his classic wide-legged action stances with the Punisher unleashed, aimed, and hefted high in his right hand. His right leg is locked straight and long, his left slightly bent with the pull of his pants highlighting his calf; his shadow—a scratchy line beneath him— completes the bottom of the soft, large triangle of negative space between his legs that adds to his overall tasty shape. We also get a little thigh curve, thank goodness.

His left arm is doing a sort of elegant bent flop to the side, elbow tucked behind his waist as his shoulders are angled to brace against Punisher’s kickback/firing power. To this end, his hip is wildly and delightfully cocked to push his lower back and waist into a deep, bracing S-curve. He’s just finished firing Punisher at Leonof and smoke streams from Punisher’s muzzle to billow around him. His hair is wildly tousled and though one can’t see his face, his chin is slightly tucked down and his whole posture gives the air of bold almost flippant confidence and determination.

Wolfwood in three-quarters profile, looking up to his right as a gust of wind howls around him, disheveling his hair and flipping the lapel of his suit jacket. This is a real treat of a wind-blown wolfwood. His gaze is one of dazed surprise, eyes squinted against the wind, mouth parted slightly as he takes in the sight before him: the gondola that leads to the hidden ship three. his eyebrows are sharp and his cheeks ruddy while his eyes are dark and soft and hazy with thick upper lashes. His aforementioned disheveled hair is very fluffy-choppy and his shirt collar is particularly big, offsetting his narrow face.

How he’s depicted in this panel is nearly bishounen, and the style calls back to how he was drawn earlier in trigun. The overall effect makes him look younger, almost vulnerable, which is appropriate given he’s seeing something he didn’t know existed, and given the dreams and flashbacks that precede this chapter of a wolfwood who has felt threatened, overwhelmed, dirtied, and desperate. He doesn’t know quite where the gondola will lead him yet but he knows what he’s seeing is out of his blood-soaked ordinary (he just has to make it through ninelives. ganbare wolfwood!)

Wolfwood standing with an IV pole carried diagonally across his right side—it’s tucked under his right elbow, and reaches over his right shoulder and behind his head, reminiscent of Punisher. The fluid bag hangs from the left side of the pole with the IV line snaking down to where it’s held in place with tape against his bare right forearm. He has a bandage on his left cheekbone and the right side of his jaw, which is honestly pretty cute, and his ears are sticking out a little bit. A cigarette dangles from his lips. He’s wearing one of his ship three hospital-arc outfits: a big black deep-v sweater over a white wide/boatneck shirt. The neckline of the shirt shows off the base of his throat and an alluring hint of shoulder. His sweater+shirt combo really makes the heart ache at its sweetness, maintaining his cherished big blocky shape while softening the usual sharper edges into sweeping relaxed curves. He looks pretty and cozy and pretty cozy. He’s saying “…No. You seem busy, I can come back later.” in response to Luida asking if he needs anything. His expression is a bit sheepish at having interrupted her conversation with another crewmember, though he clearly has a lot of questions.

This panel takes place after the fight with nine lives. Because he’s a curious cat he isn’t going to stay put in the hospital, instead wandering around until he finds Luida. Their conversation continues after this panel with Luida bringing up Vash and giving Wolfwood an opportunity to learn more about aspects of Vash that have been bugging (<3) him.

This panel is one that really incites wanting to crumple him between one's paws and also wrap him in a giant blanket and also cram one's face into a pillow because he is such a big beautiful wife. maybe ruffle up his hair aggressively too. graaahhh.

Wolfwood from the shoulders up, his head quickly turned toward the viewer. He looks alarmed, panicked, fearful; his brow is furrowed, his eyes are wide with dark stressed-out lines underneath, and his mouth is pinched tight in a wibbly downturn as if he’s clenching his jaw. A sweat drop rolls down the right side of his face. He’s doing his best to keep his shit together. His hair is also quite long and jagged, especially his sideburns—like a Ghibli hair poof signifying emotion, this is often an indicator that wolfwood is stressed and/or about to go a bit feral. His collar is very tall as well (a bit reminiscent of a cat standing sideways to look bigger). A speech bubble from midvalley reads, “What is it reacting to?!”

This panel takes place at the beginning of the big dragon’s nest stand-off when wolfwood and midvalley are gun-to-gun. vash, on the verge of being subsumed into plant-chicken mode, has suddenly burst a wing through the rubble between them. to answer midvalley's question (and wolfwood's expression) his wing starts reacting to legato’s approach. Though both wolfwood and midvalley are trapped by their roles, midvalley refers to vash as “it” and doesn’t see much difference between vash and knives--midvalley's fear and hopelessness push him to brave and foolish action. this is a tense standoff where wolfwood works to hold his ground, and hold himself steady, without getting overly caught in the fray.

Smallish wolfwood as seen from behind, mid-step, the pov peering down at him. He is hustlin’! His arms are swinging wide, hands (paws) in little fists as he scurries down a hallway. His suit is very blocky. His pointy shoulder pads are peaked and pinched indicating his shoulders are hunched up from his determined bustle. The bit of flare-out of his jacket low at his hips compliments the pointy suit shoulders and contributes to the motion of his quick steps; it’s very sweet and also adds to his adorable and amusing shape, as does the big fold of his white shirt collar. He’s saying “Hey, Spikey!! I hate to bring up our earlier conversation, bu—“ This is a man on a mission!

And the mission is gossip! This panel takes place while vash and wolfwood are stopping over in a town. As wolfwood sussed out earlier that morning, tensions in the town are high due to a multi-family feud over the rights to an excavated Plant. Wolfwood wanted to get a move-on while vash—teasingly and secretively—deflected wolfwood's safety concerns, as he needed to stay to meet with sensei and brad for arm repair and new equipment. Here, wolfwood is hurrying back to vash’s room to give him an update on the town’s escalated situation. This is a great wolfwood for when you need to bustle back and forth and around all day.

A close-up panel of wolfwood’s incredible stunning gonjus perfect hand. “looks like just some guy’s hand” said no one ever because we all know it’s WOLFWOOD’S HAND and it’s CHERISHED and his hands have CHARACTER AND NARRATIVE DEFINING IMPORTANCE!

poised in a darkened room, wolfwood has a partially smoked cigarette pinched tight between forefinger and thumb (good lord 😵‍💫), a rarity as we usually see him smoking with his classic held-between-middle-and-ring-finger positioning. His other three fingers are spread away, partly curled, and his palm is cast in shadow. His knuckles are a bit pointy, and his fingers are simultaneously slender, solid, and strong.

It’s always good to pay attention to wolfwood’s hands for one’s general improved state of mind and also because wolfwood himself has complex feelings about his hands—fearful guilt-laden dreams of them too blood-stained to hold those he loves, while the very thing that stained them is what allows him to protect what he cares about. in contrast to his complex visions of guilt, helplessness, prideful protective drive, and burden of responsibility, we are frequently shown his hands to be clean and notably well taken care of. This is not the first time we’ve seen that his nails are neat and trim, squared off, a detail that continues to be wildly seductive and, maybe, a bit heartachey.

This hand panel takes place while wolfwood, vash, and milly are waiting in a hotel room for zazie to show up after meryl is taken. Wolfwood smokes while vash sits at the window looking out intently; milly lays down in the adjoining room to try and rest but listens to wolfwood talk to vash. The palpable atmosphere is built in part around this panel, the suspended snapshot of his burning cigarette and tight, tense hand position conveying everyone’s concern and anticipation.

A small panel with a close-up of a small woowoo face. He’s in three-quarters profile with his sunglasses on, head tilted back implying he’s looking up. A hint of his big collar peeks up from the bottom of the panel. His chin is endearingly small and pinchable, as if he’s recoiling/drawing back in surprise. With his sharp frowny eyebrows, sweat drop on his cheek, comically slanted downturned mouth, and big glossy sunglasses giving the effect that his eyes are wide, he’s managing to make an expression that is alarmed, taken aback, unimpressed, and a little exasperated all at once. Somewhere between “woah” and “ugh” and “yikes”. He is witnessing something truly cringe and annoying.

and he’s right! because this panel takes place shortly after wolfwood and vash return to Sheryl and Lina’s house, and the ridiculous bandit whom Lina correctly kicked in the face has returned with one of his crew and is trying to start shit with them again. when wolfwood tightens his grip on punisher's strap, the bandit reveals his cannon arm+his dumb gun boy and wolfwood is like 'uhhhh are you kidding me right now.' also wolfwood's nose is super cute for some reason. and let's take another moment to admire again his sunglasses being softly rounded and big and shiny; it's always so impressive how expressive he is even with them on. sorry wolfwood! you can't actually hide! <3

Wolfwood at the slip ’n slide. He’s got his legs kicked up and out, and his left arm flailing as he falls ass-first into a pool of water, sending up a big splash. punisher has landed heavily at his right side, smaller splashes around her. Rubble from above also rains down making the water turbulent. the translated sound effect reads “sliiiide” indicating wolfwood is slipping and being washed away by the force of the water.

This panel takes place shortly after wolfwood, vash, and milly enter the dragon’s nest town. hoppered has just blasted through buildings high up, causing the water tower to crash down and burst, cratering the ground and knocking wolfwood askew while separating him from the group. one reason this panel is important is because it’s good to remember he had a sopping wet ass during his fight with midvalley, and there’s no way he dried out by the time the big standoff with everyone else happens. Another reason this panel is important is because he’s wildly adorable with his flailing; it makes an enriching+charming contrast to the focused intensity we just saw from him as he warily explored the town (and tried to get milly to turn back), and the battle intensity we’re about to see.

This brings us to a third reason this panel is important: it shows wolfwood’s casual physical vulnerability outside of a direct battle. He didn’t anticipate the falling buildings+water tower, and he wasn’t able to dodge/escape when they did even when vash yelled “run!” in a previous panel; he wasn’t able to land gracefully, or with any kind of control. he’s extraordinarily skilled, strong, and powerful, and he can be caught off guard, repeatedly. this panel is an endearing reminder of that, which in turn holds up a mirror reminder that often what matters in his fights is that he always ends up getting back up. Relentless, fierce, and adaptable, even—maybe especially—as a soggy angry cat.

a smaller woowoo. he’s peering out from behind a wall trying to be both nonchalant and sneaky but not doing a great job of either. his shirt collar and lapels are big, very fluffed up, sticking out just as much as the rest of his blocky suit. his expression is one of his classic pensive-observation faces, eyebrows slightly furrowed, sunglasses in place, and mouth gently pinched and downturned. he has a bit of a looming quality to him and a strong air of nosiness; also his chin is very pincheable. sound effects around him are translated as “boom chika” from surrounding music.

this panel takes place at the beginning of vash being harassed by a bounty hunter. wolfwood had been trying to enjoy his firm yet supple breakfast udon (really cute he has breakfast udon) when the attack on vash interrupted his meal. though he quickly heads over to help, he arrives just as vash has dodged a rain of bullet fire and wolfwood pauses here to asses the situation; it’s endearing that this is how he tries to casually peep.

Close-up of wolfwood eating a heaping spoonful of curry rice. He’s wearing his sunglasses, his sideburns are relaxed, his hair is pleasantly fluffy-choppy, and he has his usual blushy marks high up on his cheekbones. His shoulders are a bit hunched, implying he’s leaning forward over the table, but he doesn’t look rushed, just focused. He’s holding the spoon in a loose fist, thumb very close to the scoop end of the spoon, in a way that looks a little awkward but very charming. Meryl has just sat down at his table in the previous panel and Wolfwood is saying to her, “What? Why so glum?”

This scene takes place after having seen vash go full plant-chicken mode during the dragon’s nest standoff. In the next panel he offers some of his food to meryl, though he does tell her it’s not that great. He fully knows what’s distressing her, as it’s causing deep conflict for him too, but he first plays at ignorance and then plays at cheeky stoicism as he reserves his own anxieties in favor of offering comfort to meryl with a shared meal and saying, once again, that she and milly should return to their office for their own safety. Similar to his transparent attempts to seem harsh to milly during the dragon’s nest, his care and concern is evident and persists through to this calmer moment. We also usually see Wolfwood’s meals interrupted by collateral damage; it elicits a tender feeling watching him eat.

Wolfwood with a gaunt, unamused put-upon expression that is endearing and humorous. He’s rolling his eyes at himself, inwardly cringing, after remembering his impulsive hubris on the rooftop right before, when, overwhelmed with how trapped he felt by his situation and the danger the twins’ conflict puts his kiddos/humanity in, he pointed a gun at vash behind vash’s back and had thought ‘is it that easy to eliminate half the threat?’

Obviously the answer is no <3. This panel takes place right after fighting literally back-to-back with vash, defending each other and attacking with such fluidity and unity that there’s the impression wolfwood got lost in the teamwork sauce until vash bumped his shoulder. the sudden contact jolted him into awareness of vash’s strength, ability, and prowess to the point where he realizes how dumb it was to think he could sneak up on vash before. Vash obviously knew what wolfwood was doing; more vitally, though, wolfwood is hit with fully realizing that vash still trusts him enough to have his back to wolfwood (and, as we see in the fight above, for wolfwood to defend vash's back). He’s annoyed at himself for being foolish in multiple regards, but also undeniably a bit soft-hearted over this (probably going to process it later lol), as he goes from extremely keyed-up high-alert to Big Sigh.

holy cow, where do we even start with this one. well, most importantly, wolfwood is wet. his hair is limp, tangled, soggy and he has water dripping down his cheeks and chin. his head is tilted to the side, and his eyes are scrunched shut with his teeth bared and clenched as he gets hold of himself after painfully plummeting into a pool of water thanks to midvalley. he has his usual scuffed up flush high on his cheekbones and his sharp canine fang is cutely on display (even though it's because he's grimacing in discomfort; sorry wolfwood). he's speaking to milly (off screen) saying, "what about...spikey?"

it is hard to describe what makes this panel so enigmatic, as it's a well-wrought mix of things, yet he is undeniably both terribly handsome and almost sweet to behold. we feel a rush of sympathy, a tightening in our hearts because of his pain, and at the same time one may feel the urge to pinch his cheeks while also battling a swirl of erotic impulse. fueled in part by him being so damp, it is also his furrowed brow and how tightly squinched shut his eyes are, his lashline thick because of it, that stirs up a range of feelings. while wolfwood has been depicted hurt, angry, vengeful, etc before, rarely do we see him with an expression so vulnerable in the midst of a fight--though perhaps that's because this fight has only just begun; he's gathering himself, leaning on milly's help for just a moment, before he fully transitions into the sharp, relentless fighter he has to be to survive and protect. sensing what's to come in this fight (and its spillover standoff)--and given what's already happened to him--makes this expression alluring and heart-aching to the reader.

wolfwood, windblown, out on one of the Home ship decks. the steep cliff-like structure of the ship rises behind him in the distance. another panel where he is marvelously shaped; he's wearing a big bulky-drapey black sweater with a deep, deep v-neck (oh my), a soft rumpled white shirt beneath, and a pair of jeans that he likely stole from vash. his hair is tousled in the wind <3. his eyes aren't visible, which, combined with his gently frowny, pinched mouth, signals he's making an expression of restrained emotion. he has his hands shoved into his pockets.
vash has just shown him the ship-to-earth communications array and he's feeling an ember of hope for maybe the first time in his life. or rather, he's feeling the desire *to* hope--small and monumental all at once, surely frightening given what he knows he faces and yet he can't help but reach for it anyway.

a small wolfwood making a frowny grumpy face. he is so cute, ah! his face is very round giving the impression his cheeks are a bit puffed, a bit pouty. his ears are sticking out a little too, only adding to the cuteness aggression one might feel beholding him.
he's had quite the night, having just woken up from a nightmare only to smash his dick on the dick-smasher table, and then given an annoying and intimidating micromanaging reminder message from knives via zazie; he's exhausted and trapped and tangled up and >:[ about it all. his experience of vash's humanity amidst vash's terribly inhuman powerful abilities is at odds with his experience of knives's monstrous use of power. lost in thought as his heart and consciousness struggle with his circumstance, vash's voice calling "wolfwood!" cuts through the dark night engulfing him.

Two panels of wolfwood in the midst of his fight with ninelives. the top panel is a close-up of his handsome face. he's bloody, hair a mess, visible eye fierce, corner of his mouth ticked up in a triumphant self-satisfied smile. he's saying "hmph...my bad."

In the lower panel he stands next to ninelives' severed arm. his exhaustion and pain are overwhelmingly evident: he clutches his broken ribs with one hand while the other dangles limply at his side, shoulders slumped and head bowed, legs bent with foot wearily raised as he half-walks half-drags himself away from the door control panel. he looks moments from collapse. still, his endearing, bittersweet, self-soothing trash talk bravado shines through--"is that it, bastard?" he taunts the severed arm, "you plunged right in, stupid." he is very shaped in this panel, delightfully so in the midst of his wounded resilience. the places where his suit folds out in softened peaks--the cuff of his pants, the hem of his jacket and at his stomach (<3), the flared collar of his shirt--are incredibly charming. sound effects around him read "klonk klonk klonk".

these two panels together create a lovely diptych of wolfwood's character: clever, vulnerable, and tenacious, he keeps fighting even when afraid. it is a vicious battle but we see his determined heart and humor.

a small wolfwood. he's in a crowd of people who are yelling "Ah! Ah! Waah!" and running away in the opposite direction he's facing. he's looking around, mouth open and eyes wide, saying "Hmm?" with an expression of surprise and recognition as he spots vash in the chaotic crowd. he is very tiny and he's got his arms out and shoulders all hunched up making his suit pointy and terribly cute while somehow still retaining softness as a whole. he is reminiscent of a gummy candy; a very chewable wolfwood.

A wolfwood who is full of devilish delight as he is about to pour his trusty bottle of travel hot sauce all over the guy who shot vash. His eyes are closed in cute little crescents and his mouth is a big, open smile. He has his right hand up in a two finger salute as he bustles down the hall full of purpose. The collar of his shirt is tall and perky, reflecting his vengeful whimsy. This is a man on a mission. Also, his nose is extra cute in this panel and his neck is a little distracting all swan-like on display. Alarmed shouts surround him saying, "H...Hey who are you?" "Hey! He's got something there!!" close up of wolfwood's sweet face in three-quarters profile, what a blessing. his usual blush sits high on his cheekbones. having just woken up from fighting ninelives, he has several bandages on his face and is wearing a loose hospital gown; the viewer's eye is drawn to the barely-there enticing dip at the base of his neck. his mouth is frowning, pinched, though no longer in annoyance but a sense of being unsure. his eyes are soft which give his expression a heartaching complexity. gaze vulnerable, he looks thoughtful and conflicted as vash thanks him for killing to save the colony, and guilty and relieved in this moment of honest connection with vash. there is, perhaps, an undercurrent of fearful yearning for this gratitude and forgiveness.
