Monday, 5/26/2025 Things Fall Apart - The Roots 1999 Act Won (Things Fall Apart) is a selection of samples, the final of which reflects on the treatment of Hip-Hop as being artistically inferior. I disagree with the sentiment that Hip-Hop was not "maximized" as a product (1/??)

Sunday, 5/25/2025 Comedown Machine - The Strokes 2013 Tap Out opens with a more rock sound than the Strokes previous album, the very synth-heavy Angles, though it keeps many of the same production hallmarks. The very particular loose, high vocal delivery on this album is apparent from here (1/14)

Saturday, 5/24/2025 untitled unmastered. - Kendrick Lamar 2016 untitled 01 has an incredibly intense verse from Kendrick which reminds me of his feature on Conrad Tokyo by A Tribe Called Quest. It features much of the same message and writing people loved on TPAB. The first half of (1/10)

Friday, 5/23/2025 Are We There Yet? - James Marriott 2023 You Are Here noticeably mimic the structure of Car Lights, a previous very successful song from James, with the entire song building to one dramatic climax. This song is relatively raw in its mixing compared to other songs off the (1/12)

Thursday, 5/22/2025 Is This It - The Strokes 2001 The title track introduces the lo-fi, distorted sound of this album. Julian Casablancas' voice glides over the very light and airy production, and it makes for a great track. The Modern Age is far from my favorite on the album. The mixing (1/9)

Wednesday, 5/21/2025 Beats, Rhymes & Life - A Tribe Called Quest 1996 Phony Rappers features a weirdly dissonant digital piano. This in and of itself actually works surprisingly well, but I cannot forgive the awful second verse. It builds the slightest bit of flow and immediately ruins it (1/13)

Tuesday, 5/20/2025 El Oso - Soul Coughing 1998 Rolling's strong percussion and entrancing groove make it an enjoyable listen. The various odd but effective choices of instruments later in the song are great and show us what's to come, as does its writing. Misinformed has an equally catchy (1/11)

Monday, 5/16/2025 Divine Inner Tension - Hail The Sun 2023 Tunnel Vision Alibi is a brilliant execution on HTS's formula, they do mess with song structure often, but in a distinct way. This sound does lack the weight of some later tracks, and tracks off of New Age Filth, but that's not a (1/16)

Sunday, 5/18/2025 Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven - Kid Cudi 2015 Edge Of The Earth is far from a good song, but it lands in a zone where I could almost appreciate it if it served as the calm before the storm on a more intense album, though the second half of this medley lacks anything I feel (1/16)

Saturday, 5/17/2025 POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR - Bring Me The Horizon 2020 Dear Diary, opens this album and casts the direction for the intensely heavy and loud sound this album focuses on. It's paranoid writing and chilling screams are entrancing. Parasite Eve highlights some of the (1/11)

Friday, 5/16/2025 antichamber - Puma Blue 2025 debris serves as an ominous and ambient opening, before transition to the acoustic and very relaxed hotel room. This song has a relatively high quality recording for Puma Blue, and these very airy yet present vocals. whilst my heart breaks is (1/10)

Thursday, 5/15/2025 Eazy-Duz-It - Eazy-E 1988 Still Talkin' is a strange opening to the album. It has these weird spoken word portions with this game show theme song-ass instrumental. It features all of the rampant misogyny which makes a lot of 80's and 90's gangsta rap hard to listen to, (1/16)

Tuesday, 5/13/2025 The Low End Theory - A Tribe Called Quest 1991 Excursions opens with a brilliant upright bassline, a hallmark of the album. This Q-Tip solo is full of the quintessential writing of ATCQ, alongside Tip's lower rapping voice, and is a great intro to this album, (1/21)

5/12/2025 Some Rap Songs - Earl Sweatshirt 2018 Shattered Dreams is a great song to highlight how, to my ear, Earl's production and rapping are not nearly as good as his writing. The beat itself is fine, but he puts so little effort into the vocals or keeping an consistent flow. You're (1/14)

5/10/2025 POW! Right in the Kisser! - Hail The Sun 2010 Ready or Not, There I Go is an abysmal opening to this album. i am accustomed to much better mixing from Hail The Sun, but i do think it's deeper than that, mainly with Donovan Melero's unimpressive vocals compared to even (1/13)
