bears anomaly to go with the absolute-unit sheep anomaly
Print held up to the light: it's a lightky inked, rotationally symmetrical oddity with paws and bear heads sticking out, from covering an inked printing block during the printing press carriage return trip. Blue ink on translucent white-yellow paper.Print held up to the light: in the middle in darkest ink is an oddity of sheep hooves and floof, from printing a sheep image block once than again after rotating the paper 180 degrees, and the ensuing overlapping area. Black ink on translucent white paper.

My press store has a $5-print section, now including these letterpress quick explainers of historical pointing hand imagery (inspired by @transbookhistory.bsky.social's work): store.wolfproofpress.com/category/5-f...
Photo of two letterpress prints, 1 on neon yellow cardstock and 1 on tan chipboard, with pointing hand images and text in blue ink. Both have the same text: "printers fist: Printers fist: Lil handy inky printing block added at time of printing
Manicule: Opinionated reader's doodle hand-drawn after publication to comment" There is a printing block on the same table as the prints, with a finger that has a "don't forget" style bow tied around it.Screenshot of a colorful grid of photos of letterpress prints from store.wolfproofpress.com's "$5 ~fancy~ prints" category, including an "Unstoppable queer pirate letterpress!" poster and a "I love my trans self/trans friends" print.

"i like big wood type (& smol type, 2) & i cannot lie" is...a letterpress poster extolling The Biggest Sorts! It includes a print from the "made w/💜 by a trans ✅ printer ✅ ally 🏳️‍⚧️" typehigh maple printing block I designed, lasercut, & color in w/art marker: store.wolfproofpress.com/product/i-li...
Photo of a letterpress print on white 19" tall x 13" wide paper with dayglo blue-purple and red-orange ink. It says "i like big!! (& smol type, 2) wood type & i cannot lie" in blue; the letters of "wood" and "type" each fill about 40% of the page's height. "Wood" was printed in blue; had a band of orange words in various sizes, typefaces, and orientations printed over it; then was printed again over that in the same place as its first instance, in blue. The words are "big", "wood", and "type". One of each of those words is also printed in orange using a shadowed font, vertically among the spaces between the letters of the large word "type". A small trans flag is next to small text that says "made with 💜 by a trans [checked checkbox] printer [checked checkbox] ally". There are several decorative printers fists (pointing hands) and exclamation marksMeme-y image, using the book cover of "Identifying Wood: Accurate Results with Simple Tools", which originally shows a bespectacled, shirt-and-tie person peer through a loupe intently at a large block of wood. The title has been modified with neon green silly-font type to say "Identifying Big Wood Type", wolfproofpress.com replaces the author, and a large wood-type M replaces the block of wood to become the object the person is studiously peering at. The speech "its type (big)" is in neon green typewriter font from a line from the person's mouth. There is decorative edging on the image using rainbow animal prints, and a spherically-wooled sheep in front of an '80s sunset image.

Photo of a letterpress print on tan chipboard paper with blue-violet ink. It says "to be as full of mitzvot as a pomegranate", followed by a long text from the conclusion of a zine by Sarah Werner: "To be as full of mitzvot as a pomegranate is to look at our world and say, No, it does not stay as it is, No, the future is not yet written, Yes, we can repair the world, Yes, I will be there for you and for the children of our children's children's children. We will be as many as the seeds of a pomegranate and we will build this new world one step at a time, one breath at a time, one act building on another until the seeds we plant today grow into orchards of pomegranates and mitzvot. I will die, we all will die, but we will also live on in this work. That is the eternity we are promised.
This is my new year's wish for you, my friends.
May you find a way to take that step, may you find your community, may you become the blessing that we need in this world.
- from Sarah Werner’s “Pomegranates’”

💜 printing on alt papers: graph, penmanship practice, neon drugstore—& now telegrams in the works (👉 don't forget to sign up at tinyurl.com/iceoutprint if you want a free advocacy print in the mail)
Photo of a letterpress print on gradeschool lined penmanship-practice paper with black, dayglo light orange, and deep blue ink. It says "abolition is / elementary / 'Police departments don’t solve serious or violent crimes with any regularity, and in fact, spend very little time on crime control, in contrast to popular narratives' / ACLU SoCal rep., /
2022, Reuters summary"Photo of a letterpress print in dark blue ink on neon yellow paper, sitting on an open business envelope; it says "ICE OUT" with the word "ICE" over the image of a hand pointing away. The print is sitting on the gray metal top of a printing press. Digital text says "Free ICE OUT letterpress prints, tinyurl.com/iceoutprint"Photo of a letterpress print on white graph paper with light blue grid, with text in black ink. It says "Infrastructure is something we owe to one another / -Meg Smith". The I and E of "Infrastructure" are double height large letters as if to hold up a roof over the rest of the text. This print has lighter pressure and ink, resulting in more of the used wood type's pits and scars showing; these look beautiful, like stars and Milky Way in the night sky, not ugly

I lasercut type+printing blocks for this print's Hebrew & pomegranate pattern in birch. "This is my new year's wish for you, my friends. May you find a way to take that step, may you find your community, may you become the blessing that we need in this world." -Sarah Werner store.wolfproofpress.com

Starting to get low on these prints, if you've been wanting one (they're complex enough I can't reprint more): store.wolfproofpress.com/product/pome... & store.wolfproofpress.com/product/hope...
Photo of a letterpress print on chipboard paper with blue ink with a subtle blue-purple gradient. The text of the print says "To be as full of mitzvot as a pomegranate is to look at our world and say, No, it does not stay as it is, No, the future is not yet written, Yes, we can repair the world, Yes, I will be there for you and for the children of our children's children's children.
Running along the side of the page from the first use of the word “mitzvot” is the text “*commandments”, literally— obligations we have to each other and to the world that create pathways connecting us to our best selves, making shared communities and divinity possible "Photo of a letterpress print on white paper with black and gradient red-yellow ink. It is illustrated with orange and offset-layered red and orange origami crane images from lasercut printing blocks I made from my drawings. It says "Hope is a thing with wings

a thing that sings when fed a crumb
& grows, whole loaves
to others you may never see,
a grace made, an *action*

what if things
were a bit easier?

if we dream of
what could be,
& rise to find the
recipe in our hands?

what if we have
enough for all?"

Luddites didn't "fear tech", they understood when something's being pushed for profit @ cost to human wellbeing <3 store.wolfproofpress.com/product/brea... Ditto folks today & AI (including lots of folks who both code+formally study tech ethics+history; vs, like, your CEO or uni pres??)

Complex letterpress work can be silly, colorful...cheesy. If u remember California Pizza Kitchen, u don't gotta know what a "California typecase" is—but it's a letterpress type organizer that gave me an excuse to mash up 2 great tastes: 🍕! & letterpress! store.wolfproofpress.com/product/ca-p...
Photo of a letterpress print on cream paper that's been inked to a pastel neon pink orange yellow gradient. It says "California PizZa Typecase" in blue Cooper Black font, shows the grid of a letterpress California Job Case layout, and is decorated with a dayglo orange cheese slice, original California Pizza Kitchen logo design that's been altered to say "California Pizza Printz", and a plethora of ornaments and little images and words in day glo blue fit into the case cells. Text at bottom says "Special Pizza Style!" next to hands holding a letterpress composing stick, and "Nearly everyone likes printing". There are sausage and cheese textures in the typecase cells where the letters making up "pizza pie" would get stored; and the enjoinder "enjoy pizza AND fight fascism".Photo of a letterpress print on chipboard paper.
