We also had the Glenwood City Hilltoppers (some sort of Bavarian mountain climbers?) and the Arkansaw Travellers (mascot was a hobo).

Elk Mound was my nemesis in the Dunn/St. Croix Conference. They were the Mounders, but their mascot was an elk. Never quite understood that. Anyways, just an excuse to post a pic of me scoring on those morons.

The school was named after John A. Johnson in 1911. Wendy Anderson would come later. Either way, no monocles to be found.

Absolutely awful AI logo at Johnson High School. Besides the icky AI art, how does this represent former MN governors? Were they rail barons?

The hand through the window thing just before this is mine. It was a River Falls WI theatre Saturday mantinee. I was convinced bigfoot lived in the woods outside my bedroom window after this.

As much as I would love to try this signature dish, I think I’ll go for the tenders basket here.

It’s a really fun game about how 8 million people in Europe died over religion! And it’s about the 30th anniversary of Let Your Dim Light Shine, I would imagine.

I played through this last winter. It was fascinating. Planning on doing the same with Steel Wolves this winter.

Never tried bridge. Grew up with Euchre and Sheepshead. Played a lot of 500 at my factory job. Not convinced Sheepshead was a real game. It felt like a prank that had gone too far.

Rare purchase. Treat usually reserved for Ellsworth Wisconsin garage euchre tournaments.

It’s funny how mainstream country music doesn’t realize people like Sierra Ferrell, Lukas Nelson, and the Turnpike Troubadours exist. So good.

I had a buddy comment on another buddy's divorce with "I don't know why she divorced him, he barely ever talked to her."

Railways Of The Lost Atlas is a great place to start with 18xx train games. TIL it has a local MN creator. I had assumed it came from the UK for reasons?

That was my set as well. When introducing to my kids when they were teens, I couldn't find the 3rd and picked up a more recent edition of it. It bothers me they don't match...

Anyways, Here's Wonderwall.... No, Long White Cadillac we recorded in Jim's basement in 2010. I'd like to imagine there are a few people in western WI that think of me when they hear that song.

So, this is just a long-winded way of saying I'm probably done. Unless my long time bandmate, friend, and high school history teacher Jim needs me to fill some time in his gigs, I'm not going to seek out anything new. And I'm kind of sad about it. I really love performing.

For 20 years I had a lot of fun with it. But last year the physicality and the late hours got to me and I gave it up. I've tried pivoting to laid back acoustic gigs, but the demand isn't really there.

John Wolf @wolfdog.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
I probably sang Dave Alvin's Long White Cadillac at every gig. I sang Yellow Ledbetter once. I sang You're The Inspiration once as a wedding gig request. I sang the lyrics of Stairway To Heaven to the tune of Freebird a couple times, which I stole from @dashriprocknola.bsky.social (sorry Bill)

We played in front of 5 people at the Hersey Cave Bar. 500 people at Roberts Good Neighbor Days. I would sing 12-15 songs a night during our 4 hour, 50 song gigs. We probably played 500+ gigs in our 20 year run. Some songs I sang hundreds of times, some only once.

I quit being in bands around the time my kids were born. But about 10 years later in 2005 I got the itch again and joined a cover band called Boondoggle with some old HS friends (and a teacher). And we were a fairly busy one around the western Wisconsin bar circuit.

Around this time I also did my first acoustic open mic at the Sidetrack Saloon in Roberts, WI. I did Gear Daddies - Got So Drunk (Just Feel Stupid) and The Replacements - Here Comes A Regular.

The bands I was with in college and soon after I stuck to playing bass or guitar and staying away from the microphone. But one fill-in job I did for a buddy's country band they asked me to sing one. It was The Marshall Tucker Band's 24 Hours At A Time. youtu.be/28IP7wHVP-A?...

Remembering the first song I ever sang in front of people. Our HS band playing Chuck Berry, Beatles, and Buddy Holly at a HS dance. I sang 1 of the songs we did in our 20 min spot. A version of Patsy Cline's I Fall To Pieces we learned from the recent Greg Kihn lp. youtu.be/CWCPYiB3k3s?...

Jack Kralick also threw a no hitter at Met Stadium on Aug. 26th 1962 which would have been the 2nd day of the fair. Which was also the 1st no hitter by a Minnesota Twin.

I did a little corn dog shoot out. Pronto Pup excluded because I know I dont like them. Korean Corndog tasted good but the batter was underdone. Big Dawgz was bland. I miss the classic Hot Dog On A Stick booths.
