A thought occurs to me this evening. You never really understand how much your parents love you until you're a parent yourself, and you never fully understand how much you love your parents until you lose one. What a joyful way to discover the first, and what a tragic way to discover the second.

The hardest lesson to learn when you are recovering from depression is that your isolation is just making you worse. Go be with friends that uplift you and love you. It works wonders.

Sylvester McCoy was "my doctor" as a kid but Matt Smith was special too. As we're the same age so for the first time I saw myself as the doctor during his tenure. Also there's more than a hint of a fairytale about Matt and Sylvester's doctors so I loved that.

The last 12 months have been really tough. Losing Mum especially. Hopefully, spring will offer a change of fortune. My little family have helped keep my face towards the sun, I'm lucky to have them.

I hope you have support to help you through this. If you're able, try to aim for some things that are within your control, even things like getting a wash. These can help focus you on the here and now and give you beacons to aim for while you're navigating out of this. Take care.

When I was watching that in the theatre the first time, during that sequence I suddenly realised that at some point I'd frozen with a piece of popcorn in hand halfway to my mouth haha. Great movie, and an incredible moment.

This was Steptoe and Son in case folks didn't know the show.

010

wolf-rick.bsky.social @wolf-rick.bsky.social · 12/03/2025

As a Brit I only know Sanford & Son from references in American movies. When I first saw a clip I realised it must be a remake of Steptoe & Son. There's must be a good article on British shows that had massively successful US remakes. Sanford & Son, All In The Family, Two's Company, The Office...

Oh yeah, that would be ace. The best double bill I saw was on Channel 4 when I was at Uni and they showed Cinema Paradiso followed by The Legend of 1900. I'd not seen either before that night and hadn't planned to stay up watching them... but man they are incredible movies.

I'd always wanted to see it, because everyone whose opinion I respect about films spoke so highly of it, but I just never got round to it. There are so many films like that for me... and I fear the numbers grow each year 😅

I only watched Spirited Away for the first time a few weeks back... I wished I'd seen it sooner, it might make my list after another few watches.

A lovely eclectic collection of films there. Which is exactly what I think a list of "favourites" should be... but that's just like my opinion man. I've always had a soft spot for Big Fish. It might even be my favourite Tim Burton movie.

I love Wings of Desire, it's a beautiful film, but I've never seen Les Portes De La Nuit. I'll have to give it a watch and if Wings of Desire accidentally starts playing straight after... 🤷🏻‍♂️ it's a risk I'll just have to take.

Rick Baker won the very first Oscar for Hair and Make-Up Styling for the unparalleled transformation scene. He holds the record for most wins in the category, seven, and most nominations, eleven. His last nomination and win being for another Werewolf movie, Joe Johnston's 2010 remake of The Wolfman.

That's it, I hadn't seen it since it was a new film and I couldn't believe how complete my memory of it was. I always liked Rutger Hauer, but he's superb in this. I seem to remember it spawned a slew of sweaty psycho movies, non of which were ever as good.

000

wolf-rick.bsky.social @wolf-rick.bsky.social · 25/01/2025

Ah, yeah. If it's a filmmaker with talent let down by budget I'm a little more willing to look past poor FX, but those were rare anyway. Not SF but I recently bought the @secondsightfilms.bsky.social release of The Hitcher. So good, and better than I remembered even though I'd always liked it.

I haven't seen Gladiator 2, but those I know that have, whose opinion I trust, don't have particularly good things to say... except for Denzel, but I'm not suprised, it's Denzel. I've got a whole section devoted to foreign films in my BluRay collection though so I haven't a problem there.

I don't know if I'm getting old... mentally speaking... but does anyone one else find themselves rewatching old movies that were considered B Movie Slop and worse back then and finding them way more cinematic than a lot of modern blockbusters? #Filmsky #Movies

My personal head cannon is that when Michael becomes human in #TheGoodPlace, he stays an architect in his life on earth. Eventually he retires after his wife dies and to alleviate his boredom he becomes #AManOnTheInside for a private investigator... but Shawn still likes messing with him.

Such a great film. I love films about blokes with a specific passion haha. Mine would be Dean Spanley, which is especially great if you had a family dog as a child haha. Plus Peter O'Toole instantly makes a film worth watching.

That's because school in the 80's and 90's was about getting us ready to pass exams not about teaching us stuff... I hope that's changed in schools now but 🤷🏻‍♂️ I really wanted to learn about ancient the Ancient Greeks in school but it was WW2 and the Victoria's.

I left twitter to get away from bots and fake profiles but so far I've had about 20 follows from "alexanna", and similar names, advertising their OF... do I need to just abandon this before I even get started and go back to the old place?
