Even after today's announcement, high street hospitality businesses up and down the country will still be in serious trouble. Andy Burnham should take up our plan to Save our High Streets, with a proper overhaul of business rates, a crack down on ‘ghost landlords’ and rejuvenating town centres.
Liberal Democrats campaign graphic promoting a plan to boost high streets, alongside a smiling shop worker in an apron. It highlights four proposals: cut VAT for hospitality, reform business rates, crack down on overseas “ghost landlords”, and introduce an “out of town” levy to reinvest in town centres.

If Andy Burnham is serious about changing the way we do politics, he would start by fixing our broken voting system. Then we can get on with fixing everything else.
A Liberal Democrats campaign graphic split into two sections. The top shows a close-up of a person placing a ballot paper into a black ballot box labelled “BALLOT BOX” at a polling station, with the large white headline: “Fix our broken voting system.” The lower half has an orange background listing several national issues in pale text, including polluted waterways, social care, relations with Europe, the NHS, the climate emergency, the cost of living, housing and immigration. The phrase “Fix our broken politics” is highlighted in bright white, with the Liberal Democrats logo in the bottom-right corner.

The cost of living is forcing people to make difficult choices. One resident told us they've kept their heating at just 17°C all winter, reaching for an extra jumper instead of turning it up. People deserve better than this. Jake Austin, Lib Dem candiate for Makerfield by-election

I'm running in the Makerfield by-election because local people deserve better. While others focus on division and political games, I'm focused on the issues that matter: saving the NHS, tackling the cost of living and more. Jake Austin, Lib Dem candiate for Makerfield by-election.

Hindley is where I grew up, where my family put down roots, and where I learned the value of community. That's why I'm standing in the Makerfield by-election: to protect our green spaces and make sure every child gets the opportunities they deserve. Jake Austin, Lib Dem candiate for Makerfield

Residents across Makerfield tell me the same thing: the cost of living is hitting hard. We have a plan to cut fuel duty, lower public transport fares and break the link between gas and electricity prices to bring down bills. Jake Austin, Lib Dem Candidate for Makerfield by-election.

Gas and electricity prices keep rising, and households are paying the price. That's because electricity prices are still tied to the cost of gas. Even as we invest in cheaper renewable energy, bills remain higher than they should be. Jake Austin, Liberal Democrat candidate for Makerfield

Everyone deserves to feel safe. Years of cuts to local policing have left communities paying the price. The Liberal Democrats will restore real community policing in Makerfield and across the country. Jake Austin, Liberal Democrat candidate for the Makerfield by-election.

We’re calling for immediate action to tackle the cost of Trump’s war and keep Britain moving.
A blurred image of a train at a platform forms the background. Overlaid is a stylised headline card from PoliticsHome reading: “Rail and Bus Fares Should Be Cut To Protect Public From Iran Petrol Spike, Lib Dems say,” with “Should Be Cut To” highlighted in yellow. A red exclamation icon appears in the corner, and the Liberal Democrats logo is in the bottom left.

Badenoch and Farage cheered on Trump's war that has send fuel costs soaring. Now they are trying to backpedal with weak plans that give no help today. Our plans would bring down prices at the pump by 12p per litre.
A smiling man stands at a petrol pump, holding the nozzle as he refuels a car. He wears a red and black checked shirt under a dark jacket. The right side of the image is overlaid with an orange-to-pink gradient featuring the text “Keep Britain Moving” at the top and “CUT FUEL DUTY BY 10p” in large bold letters. The Liberal Democrats logo appears in the bottom left corner, with small vertical text along the left edge noting promotional details.

Cut rail fares. Cut bus fares. Slash fuel duty. Our plan to cut the cost of living and Keep Britain Moving. ⬇️
Graphic from the Liberal Democrats titled “Our Plan to Keep Britain Moving” with the tagline “Cutting the Cost of Living.” It lists four policies: reducing fuel duty by 10 percent (saving 12p per litre), cutting bus fares to £1 from a £3 cap, reducing rail fares by 10 percent, and cutting VAT on public electric vehicle charging. Background image shows a person in a suit walking along a train platform.

The Government has agreed to incorporate LibDems’ Sunshine Bill into their Future Homes Standard. It means all new homes built from 2028 will come with solar panels. This will reduce bills for owners, reduce pressure on the energy grid and help fight climate change. It’s a Lib Dem win-win-win.
Liberal Democrats campaign graphic with a light blue background featuring the word “Sunshine Bill” repeated in large faded text. An orange banner reads “Lib Dem Win.” The main headline states “Government backs Lib Dem plans to guarantee solar panels on every new home.” The lower half shows a close-up photograph of solar panels installed on a modern home’s dark roof against a clear blue sky. The Liberal Democrats logo appears in the bottom left corner.

Water firms are dumping sewage with impunity while the Government fails to act. It’s time to end the Wild West water industry with a new regulator, full sewage reporting and a system that serves the public, not profit.
Political campaign graphic from the Liberal Democrats showing a dark, murky waterway with a large drainage pipe outlet surrounded by overgrown vegetation. Bold text reads “291,492 sewage dumps in England last year.” A red banner at the top repeats “Water Scandal.” The bottom left includes a logo reading “End the Great Sewage Cover Up.“
