Watched Digger. There's something to be said about the movie's nature of being a double-edged sword, but my fucking god. Oh my fucking god. I love this movie. I was clowning on it before I watched it, but I apologize. 9.5/10

Putting my thoughts on the alt text of the images. Not covering any spoilers here, so you're safe to read if you're curious to see it yourself. I recommend it! 8/10
Like I said, I recommend Primetime! It's a good movie with excellent cinematography and in particular, lighting. The script, done by Ajah Singh and Luke Dittrich is a well-done study on TCAP and Chris Hansen. Centering its story on Chris Hansen is a great idea, though I think what it indirectly says and omits leaves a few things to be desired for me. Its message is too soft in some areas, a bit too centered on Hansen to highlight TCAP's performative and exploitative nature.

Hansen's depiction is fictionalized from what I'm aware of and my perception of the real man. I'd figure it to be neither accurate nor widely off the mark. It plays up and dramatizes what he wanted then for the sake of entertaining and engagement. Pattinson and those involved paint a picture of a man obsessed with furthering his career under the masquerade of hunting and catching lowlife pedophiles, which the film questions as its core message.

His obsession with fame from being slotted in primetime (heh) which mixes with another burning, undying hatred equally strong to create a man who cares for not for nuance and responsibility. To that end, its something to be applauded.

It matches a lot of America's clamoring for black-and-white justice and the wish to see bad people be publicly humilated in the years following 9/11, something which the film subtly touches upon. Even too, the desire for bathe in the blood of villains.

Though, the man himself probably was willing to serve that to the public to some degree if it meant furthering his career. From what I've heard though, he considered his depiction to be far removed from reality. And as I've said before, he is highly dramaticized and likely fictionalized to a degree. People are unlikely to be dramatic, so from that angle, I get why he feels that way. The film goes so far as to depict him as manipulative and unfaithful under the guise of good morals, like everything relating to the show.I think he wanted the fame and believed in what he was doing to some degree, even if it is performative at worst and severely misguided at best. The unfaithful aspect on the other hand, are allegations from 2011, years after the fact. I'm not sure why they're here when his obsession with fame is enough to cause marriage trouble. The film could've done without it from my perspective.

Outside of Pattinson however, the performances are all strong on their own merits. Skyler Gisondo as Dan Plumb is wonderful, serving to point out the danger in Chris Hansen's actions and justifications while Dan Plumb himself aims to get his foot in the door as an actor.

Phoebe Bridgers and Matthew Maher, with their portrayals of portrayal of Del and Xavier respectively are standouts. They claim to be activists. "Perverted Justice" they claim is their organization (iirc?). Del was groomed and so does this as a way to get her revenge. By in reality, putting on a theatrical show where the good, moral man catches the evil man and embarrasses him for all to see. It is these two which I have a bone to pick.

Their justice is performative as I've said before, yet the film focuses show much on Hansen and TCAP that it only establishes it to be a spectacle without purpose. The ones who supported them and were the backbone for Hansen are hardly criticized. Grooming is real, yes. I won't deny that. But it is one thing to try to hunt pedophiles, it is another to publicly educate the public on how they operate.

Indeed. It angers me to call yourself an activist and be given national attention, only to choose to not to further your cause in favor for giving the public mob justice for continued time in the spotlight.Pedophilia enroots itself in power and or trust over a child, in mundane sexism, in pride and ego, among many other ways. It is an evil which runs much deeper in humanity than we think, often lurking within shadow.

An overwhelming majority of CSA reported cases come from perpetrators within the child's immediate social network. These aren't strangers online. They are family friends, neighbors, babysitters, coaches, teachers, priests, etc. Even then, iirc, half are done by other, older minors! It is a staggering misconception that pedophilia cases come from online grooming and never does the film ever choose to address the gap. Doing so in a capacity that would have fit would've added substantially more punch behind the film's message.

The positive elements I've mentioned before mean I'm not super harsh against the film for its omission. They outweigh its negatives for me. In fact, the lighting added such substantial enjoyment for me, I'd think this film would be joyless otherwise.

Throughout the film, there's a clear dividing contrast between the black of darkness and deep reds, blues, and purples used and the bright beige yellows and browns seen when a room is lit or the TCAP is recording on-set. The former I interpreted to signify someone's true self and the latter for the persona they put on. It comes together to significantly strengthen the story by using it convey character development. Understanding how this film uses lighting is key to understanding it at its core. How the lighting is used in its entirely is a package that's starkly strange and surreal. Aided by the use of wonderfully done close-ups, it is unforgettable.

Primetime when looked after breaking down its individual parts and putting them back together, is a great film. But one with the potential to be masterful that goes somewhat unfulfilled due to some warranted elements that go omitted.

Watched Forgotten Island. Uhh, it's neither terrible nor great. A bunch of great shots in here, I like the vibrant visuals, the premise is good, VAs too. It's too over-the-top. The sound is often too loud. Combined with the expressions, I was somewhat overstimulated. Final third is not good. 6/10

It's definitely not a major one if it is. If you search it up on here at least, you'll find a handful of people who've done the same. A couple of my friends have too. I saw this in my recommended feed and went "So it's not just me?" Dunno why. Hype for both + coincidental scheduling maybe?

Watched Princess Mononoke. I know people have for sure praised this movie to hell and back, so my 2 cents possibly worth adding to the pile is that I'm very glad Miyazaki didn't take the most obvious, cliché possible route for the ending. Definitely one of my favorite movies ever. 10/10

Here's my thoughts too (outside of what I posted about it last night)
Like I said, I'm not a RE fan. My knowledge of the series is pretty scarce (mostly from DBD!). So I wasn't actually sure if he was fucked or not until the end. I thought he was turning some Mr X shit. Him turning into a mutant or whatever is cool too, I guess. It's a little sad because I fw protagonists like him and how the movie subtly exposits his character is really well done. Him knowing how to hold a firearm from video games is really fucking funny.

I was annoyed by the ending, but it does work in making me interested in getting into the games. Which I imagine had to have been intentional.

Looking at Wikipedia and doing some digging, it's kinda implied he wrote the thing, and then Sony told him they'd pick it up if he sprinkled some in RE references? It's not really clear.

If its true, then I'm not as harsh on the ending because it makes sense, even if it isn't a perfect explanation. Sure, I would've liked the guy to get the cure in the end. But you have to remember, this is horror we're talking about.

Watched Resident Evil (2026)! Dude, what a movie. It's really funny and scary. I'm not a RE fan, so my knowledge of it is limited. Idk how to feel the ending yet because how it is intended to make you feel. Austin Abrams is cute as hell in this though, I will say.

Watched Castle in the Sky! It's a really good time! For strong as the first act is, it's disappointing that the rest isn't as consistent. And also as a Trails fan, the inspiration for Sky is VERY obvious. But to that end, it ultimately made it feel underwhelming to me. Perhaps that's too harsh. 8/10

Watched Tales from Earthsea. Came in with low expectations. Yeah, they were met. This one's a mixed bag. I like the worldbuilding and ideas presented here. Yuko Tanaka is great. But it's poorly directed, the cinematography is bland, and it REALLY needed more exposition in its first act/first half.

I'm with you on most of what you're saying. The CGI was passable enough for me. The last act dropped the ball a bit. Would've been nicer if it dug into the DV theme more, yeah. As is, it's not bad, but nothing particularly spectacular. some spoilers:

Watched The Odyssey! Hmm yeah, this one meets expectations. The first two hours has its ups and downs, but thankfully the final hour makes up for it by being really strong. Matt Damon's performance is great, but a bit overhyped imo. It banks on that but isn't exceptional for it. 8.5/10?

Watched Minions & Monsters. See my screenshot for my spoilerless thoughts on it. I couldn't fit all my thoughts on it into a single post. 7.5/10

For the most part, this movie is genuinely really fun, and an outright blast at some points. Particularly in the first half, which I thought was great! Fantastic even! It's the second half of this movie where my all gripes with it lie. Not bad by any means, but far from perfect.

The film as a whole leans into the cheesiness, which I think mostly worked. But in the second half is where it stumbles a bit, as some of that cheesiness is groan-worthy and predictable. Though then again, it has to be said that is a kids movie. So... 🤷

It manages to shove in a lot of fun references to old movies and is a love letter to cinema. Sure, it's not deep in any way, but are you really expecting a Minions or Illumination film to be so?

One question, though: Why do the Minions speak Spanish, exactly?
