On my Time Team shit This lady's straight up medieval ruins making up part of the *inside* of her house. I'm legitimately going ballistic. I'd have a bank of shitty keyboards sitting there 24/7 making the most raw dungeon ass music you'd ever heard. Unreal.

Hey #gobtober what's up it's the Three Brothers of Slime and Darkness
Compilation of three monstrous goblins. Left: Photo of a ballpoint pen drawing of an extremely stylized and slightly cartoonish goblin facing the viewer, with large toothy maw, long chin with a huge ring though it, extremely long, thin, drooping ears with lots of piercings of rings and spikes, with long earrings in frayed cords of which one is a little disc with a symbol and the other looks like an arrowhead with some scratched symbols. Middle: Black ballpoint pen drawing of a creepy goblin that looks like a blobfish, deep sea fish that deform extremely under surface pressures. This guy has a wide, sagging head with little curled ears with bulbs on the earlobes. He's got wide lips with thin teeth and droopy, wide-set eyes. He has a thin, heavily wrinkled neck with some extra little tendrils on the sides. Right: Ballpoint pen drawing of a creepy goblin with big featureless eyes, a small stunted nose, big curving bat eats with a few earrings, and a big toothy mouth, closed and frowning, the front of the neck seems lighter than the rest and covered in loose, wrinkled skin.

two little ballpoint pen sketches of goblins made of tight squiggles, they're textured with more thin squiggles, the left one is grim and frowning with a super curved nose and bulbous chin, the right one is similar but menacing but also joyous and cackling with big talons

#LitHodgepodge Posting Carloman is cheating because he has Kaioken x20 Spidey Sense, so here's a HeroForge Sepp instead. If you want to guess for a dude two steps removed of godhood, I shan't stop you, but Sepp is like 19, very tired, and winging life one beastman attack and mystery at a time.
Digital model of Sepp from my serial The Path of Poison, he's a young man about 19 years old, with olive skin, golden eyes, and dark blond hair. He has a somewhat sombre expression. He wears a baggy green tunic, beige trousers, and tall, slightly loose brown boots. He has his hand on a pack by his side, and carries two bottles in his other hand,

#LitHodgepodge I don't really think about my voice tbh. I just know how it goes! I figure that's for readers to get😅 So here's two paragraphs I think are good. Rambly, POV-breaking Carloman in the middle of communing with a sky god, full of magical details I delight in. From Shadows & Sorcery #190
Three landwight’s scented bundles. A fistful of Silverden incense sticks. A dozen raw goldleaf rolls. Things from foreign lands, exotic imports the kind of which were enjoyed by the Macha. The sky merely rumbled. Right then. You want potent things, Gaoth? How about a twist of a most potent thrice-dried and desiccated lotus petal, a transcendental meditation aid, pungent beyond imagining and just as strong—a bolt of lightning coursed across the sky as he cast it into the fire, not in a flash, but one long snaking, roaring streak. Carloman retreated into his shoulders for a second. Not the reaction he was expecting.

No, no, Carloman, he thought with a sudden imagined slap to the forehead. What are you doing? Propitiating some surly landwight? Some Khurcham ghost throwing a fit? Strength, you old fool, strength. Strength it was, then. He removed his gem of flame from inside his robe. He wasn’t entirely letting the thought he had take shape, he was just doing it. You want potency, Gaoth, god of sky. He breathed a word of fire on the gem, and tongues of flame burst forth from the smoothed sides and edges. He tossed it in. Their fires mingled: the vigorous, lapping flames of the altar’s fresh blaze, and the primordial radiance of the gem fished from within the earth’s deep. That’s not all, Gaoth. Did you see me coming across the sea, god of what-might-be? I suppose I’ve called on you enough to meet you in kind. The wizard took his staff—engraved with signs and symbols of the gods and guardians of the known world, including Gaoth itself—and stamped it at either side of himself, then drew it between the points he’d made in the form of a barrier. He brought out a fist of the amulets around his neck and felt around for his old World Serpent one, removed it, and placed it around his wrist. Fingers entwined in binding, he bid the Serpent set a coil upon him as he was now. The wizard was sometimes a rash individual, but with cause. And he wasn’t stupid.

Digital illustration of Carloman, the recurring MC of my Demiurge stories. He's a stocky old man with a massive mane and beard of silver-gold hair but totally bald crown, piercing amber eyes, and luscious red robes that are flowing but otherwise unadorned, he carries a staff with a carved serpent coiling the entire length, between the coils are magical and elemental symbols, the head is a snake's maw clutching an orange, blazing gem

Got into a convo in the comments of a DS1/2/3 challenge run (bad idea of course) and mentioned how I don't like the way From's design philosophies are changing for speedier, more reaction-based games that sacrifice RPG build variety. I think I finally summed my thoughts up pretty well this time.
Area design allows for a decently varied list of playstyles. But boss design in particular tends to funnel a lot of the general playerbase into a handful of playstyles, not helped by a glut of practically pointless weapons with no niche. This is only reinforced by ER's lazy carrying over of old ideas and bizarre decisions (like two separate burst damage statuses, and statuses and elements having no applicability beyond damage, look to Enotria, Lies of P, and Lords of the Fallen for infinitely better handling of elements/statuses, Enotria in particular).

I would actually consider Bloodborne as having good playstyle variety since weapon classes can diverge pretty extremely. You're not using a Saw Cleaver the way you're using a Kirkhammer or Whirligig Saw or Kos Parasite. I also prefer its quality over quantity in diversity of movesets and the way weapons let you approach fights. I don't get the same feeling at all in ER. DS1/2 gave players the most options to choose from in terms of how actually different builds actually handled. For example, poise tanking fights, sacrificing nearly all mobility for the sake of raw strength and defense, is no longer possible to the same extent in ER like it was in DS1/2. You might get away with it in a dungeon, but against bosses who spent half the fight airborne throwing out AOEs?

I've been playing ER nearly constantly since release (I'm nearing my 20th playthrough as I type this). It has immense replay value and potential for themed builds, to make your own fun, but in terms of the meaningful diversity of builds, and how varied their approaches are to combat, I think it's sorely lacking. ER may as well just be a purely reaction-based action game at points, and it's sad to see From leaning into that, when the heavy, methodical pace of something like DS1, and how that let them design encounters, levels, and stories just really isn't found anywhere else.

Or Vermis by Plastiboo. The now getting slightly tired 90s nostalgic dungeon crawler videogame flavour was presented with art whose texture looks like it might start leaking off the page, and it captured me with such an air of intense melancholy and hostility in every little piece of flavour text.
page from one of the vermis books, a a knight in strange armour and cloak carried a torch through a cramped, shadowy dungeon corridor, they are walking towards us, the art is cracked, faded, very pointillist (made of countless dots) and looks like an old videogame

As I said, big, very interesting ideas here just not given the space to be explored in a meaningful way. It's up to interpretation a little too much imo. Gimme a thesis on this, man, not Richard Burton wandering around all sweaty talking about Pazuzu and Kokumo while Linda Blair tapdances.

So clearly the locusts symbolize mankind not ready for this mental unity, and that the holy people smooth this out. But the demon here, Pazuzu, is also represented by a locust. What's the point of the demons? I guess possession here is a forced, unnatural mental unity healers needs to subdue.

There's themes of locusts, explained that in an agitated swarm of brushing wings they're of one all-consuming "locust mind", contrasted with the idea of a burgeoning cosmic consciousness and that the emergence of holy people across the world are heralds of it (the good locusts who subdue the swarm).

Proving to myself I can break out of my weird tendency to draw things really small by drawing a marginally larger version of another sword I did to do it justice #swordtember #art #myart
Pen illustration of a curved sword, a broad-bladed scimitar with the characteristic flare on the highly decorative reverse side near the sharply curving tip. The front part of the blade is bare of detail and quite shiny. There are lines and curves along the side of the blade that give the impression of it being a rather thick, heavy blade. The hand guard is a large square rounded edges with a gem set into the middle. The handle is ribbed and curved also, with something like a scale-like pattern along it.

It's situational! Most instinctively pick up on Carloman's round, jolly, friend-shaped aura. But if he's in Wizard Business Mode, that soft round friend becomes a imposing mass of bloody flaming crimson. Sometimes it's to make people feel safe, sometimes its to scare them. Compare and contrast!

painted scene of a sorcerer's gathering: a white bearded wizard in a high backed chair summons a column of spirits or perhaps a numinous vision (all pretty ladies of course) from a black cauldron on a table before him, surrounding the wizard and enjoying the show are numerous witches, imps in little red outfits, creatures, a demon relaxing with a cat, another cat getting spooked by said relaxing cat, there's one lady who seems either shocked or REALLY excited, and one hooded fiend facing away in shame, fear, or he's just really tired, there's also some massive spiders and snake just hanging out too. The scene takes place in some kind of stone undercroft of a castle or cathedral.

So I watched the American remake of Dark Water It's not offensively bad. But it's no Gore Verbinski's The Ring, and I wouldn't recommend it. This one has less subtlety in every way imaginable, and a pretty awkward, rushed ending, but Jennifer Connelly and Ariel Gade are a good mom/daughter combo.

Watched Shaolin Kung Fu Mystagogue (1976) First of all, what a title. Evil Qing officials hunt down Ming loyalists, with lots of twists. Blisteringly paced, sometimes to the detriment of the plot. But plenty of slick editing and martial gimmicks keep the attention. 7.5/10, on the cusp of greatness.
