The cleverest sentence I've read today. From "If I Were You" by PG Wodehouse.
Text from a book that says "Violet's shapely eyebrows rose. They had been carefully plucked by an artist of the tweezers, but there was still enough of them left for her to register astonishment."

Miss 11 begged me to celebrate Sukkot this year, so I've created something that should take a while to take down again (...yay). It's not kosher since our balcony has a roof, but the garden is sadly off-limits. She's now had fun stringing up the fruit - including the festive cucumber.
A cucumber strung up amongst bunting and leaves.

Mr Burns said Senator Shoebridge should "reflect" on his answer and suggested public statements like that would "send chills up the spines of many people in the Jewish community". 1. There is no single "Jewish community". There are many with multiple perspectives. 2. My spine is not chilled.

Among the many ways that this is awful is that it's another demonstration of how far-right Jewish settlers are not an aberration - they're an essential part of the systems of apartheid that Israel has been building for decades.

I am a scientist – and the answer is climate change. Yes, there is nuance. Yes, it could take a long time to identify the precise mechanisms. But there is no question why ice and snow-related disasters are on the rise. Our planet is warming at an unprecedented rate, and humans are responsible.

I mean, are we talking about the immigrants who look after my mother in the aged care home?” 3. She continues: “Or the ones who come here to pick fruit for low wages so we have affordable fresh produce?” 4. “Or the ones working in construction to build our housing and infrastructure?” 5. “Or those training to be the medical specialists were short of?” 6. “I really don’t know. Maybe you could ask the government. They should know.”

Occasional earlier red bars are labelled “These were hot summers,” while the sustained cluster of increasingly warm recent years is labelled “This is climate change.”
