Having a custom PLC rotation key in your DID document is very important because that’s how ATProto lets you recover your account even if your PDS is completely unavailable.

We have possible significant infrastructure changes somewhere on the horizon in the next few months, and while we don’t expect any outages or data loss, it’s always a good idea to have a backup.

In short, we've reached the capacity we're comfortably able to support, and growing further would require dedicating more effort to PDS maintenance and support than we are currently able to justify. This may change in the future, but for now we would like to just level off here and be sustainable.

in my defense, it’s a synology on a UPS, with two redundant network connections (fiber and 5G), nightly backups, and a backup instance ready to be deployed if something happens to the main one

planning to do some network restructuring later today, the PDS will be switched over to the backup uplink until it's over might experience a small blip when changing the networks, and slightly worse performance while on the backup connection, but otherwise it should be ok will reply here when done
