Right now, most people who need civil legal aid to protect their rights can't get it because of the cost. One of the essential ways to rectify that situation is through our state government. Let your legislators know you value justice for those who can't afford lawyers: civillegalaidforwi.org

A man in Wisconsin was locked out of his infant son's life, for no fault of his own. How did they get the chance to know each other? It's another true story of civil legal aid.

By waiving fees on these accounts, Capitol Bank is supporting this cause. Thank you, Capitol Bank!

Victims of domestic abuse, elders tricked by a scammer, veterans who need help accessing their rightful benefits... these are examples of people who depend on civil legal aid, which depends in turn on lawyer's trust accounts.

An important source of support for civil legal aid is the interest on lawyers' trust accounts, paid to WisTAF by institutions like Capitol Bank.

When someone with few resources is victimized by a crime, they can't afford to pay an attorney to protect their safety or basic rights. They rely on what's called civil legal aid. So do some other people of limited means, who need help protecting or accessing their legal rights.

Capitol Bank - a locally owned, full-service community bank based in Madison and Verona, Wisconsin - is now helping their community by waiving fees on lawyers' trust accounts! What does that mean?

It starts with a hospital bill that you can't pay. Or a license suspension for an unpaid ticket, and now you can't get to work. Civil legal issues don't just prevent getting ahead, they prevent staying afloat. finance.yahoo.com/economy/articles/…

It's hard to feel confident about the economy when you're one unpaid ticket away from losing your driver's license and thus your job. Civil legal barriers worsen economic insecurity. Removing them helps all of us. www.cbsnews.com/news/labor-share-in…

(That's because financial institutions like AbbyBank pay interest on lawyers' trust accounts to WisTAF. We use it to provide grants for civil legal aid.) Many people who are victims of domestic abuse, elders taken in by scams, and others need this support. (2/4)

AbbyBank now waives fees on lawyers' trust accounts, to help the community! When victims of crime, or people impacted by another legal problem, can't afford a lawyer, they rely on lawyers' trust accounts for protection. (1/4)
