@ret That mode is kinda useful if you want something like an TLS decrypt middlebox for inspection, or a fancy load balancer. The box might get compromised, but not the key. There are also much more complicated schemes where keys are wrapped for export between HSMs. But the key point is there […]

@ret There s a *lot* more to it, It depends on the mode of initialisation. When you set the devices up, you can configure their mode of operation, you can configure the HSM to allow export. You've basically got pin protected storage at that point, the device can do normal signng operations, and […]

My Rolleiflex SL66 often ends up as the bridesmaid to my 6008i. Every so often, I take it out and am reminded that a focal plane shutter, bellows and tilt are rather fun to combo with odd bits of glass. In this case, a front doublet from an indifferent […] [Original post on tooter.wishy.co.uk]
How to describe?... It's a black and white photo of some foliage. Something is wrong, something is very wrong. Every bit of backlight flares like nothing else. While there is a focal point, there is no real focal plane - the plane is actually curved. Everything is very soft, everything is very bokehy, even when it should be in focus. How to describe?... It's a black and white photo of a Hepworth sculpture. The backlighting flares, the image is soft.

The Hepworth itself is likely

Winged Figure
1961–2
Aluminium with aluminium rods and Isopon
587.5 × 254 × 159.5 cm
Presented by the artist’s daughters, Rachel Kidd and Sarah Bowness, through the Trustees of the Barbara Hepworth Estate and the Art Fund © Bowness.

In 1963 Hepworth’s Winged Figure was unveiled, mounted on the side of the John Lewis department store on Oxford Street in London. This full-scale prototype for the sculpture is nearly six metres tall and forms the centrepiece of the collection of working models gifted by the Hepworth family.

Hepworth was a great admirer of the socialist ethos of John Lewis, a shop that was collectively owned by its workers, and she was attracted by the prominence of the site. The design was praised for embodying ‘the idea of resurgence or aspiration… long associated with the Partnership’.How to describe?... It's a black and white photo of a Hepworth sculpture. It's so incredibly soft, and vague. Backlighting is eating away at the image, the lens has little control for flare.

The Hepworth itself is likely Spring (Plaster) 1966
Plaster with strings
76.8 x 58.7 x 54.2 cm
Presented by the artist’s daughters, Rachel Kidd and Sarah Bowness, through the Trustees of the Barbara Hepworth Estate and the Art Fund © Bowness.

Spring was cast from an elmwood carving, Oval Form with Strings and Colour, that Hepworth had completed in 1965. Its rounded egg-like form is juxtaposed by the tense elements of the strings that cut through the centre. This contrast between hard and soft, curves and lines, solids and voids is a quintessential aspect of Hepworth’s abstraction.

A bronze version was cast from this plaster with a green-blue patina on the interior, while this work has a white interior that may have been smoothed down after casting.

Watching Vigil Season 3. Other than the terrible mando, interesting seeing "Svalbard". They've made it look much less occupied than it is. They've CGI'ed a lot of the town of Longyearbyen out of the University shots, and been very careful with the camera angles for the cableway. "Failed to […]

Explain how to wire a UK plug

Chat Jimmy
Wiring a UK plug involves a few simple steps. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Important: Before starting, ensure you are familiar with the relevant safety guidelines and regulations for wiring a UK plug. It's always best to consult the original instruction manual or contact a professional if unsure.

Tools and Materials:

UK plug wiring kit or a set of plug wiring terminals

Wire strippers (to remove insulation from the end of the wires)

Plier or wire strippers for twisting the wires

Socket or plug base

UK plug

Soldering iron and solder (if you're soldering the live and neutral wires together)
Step 1: Prepare the Wires

Remove a small amount of insulation from the end of each wire using wire strippers, leaving about 1-2 cm of bare wire at the end.

Twist the wires together using pliers or a wire stripper to form a neat loop at the end.

Step 2: Connect the Live Wire

Identify the live (brown or blue) wire, which is usually connected to the power source.

Connect the live wire to the live terminal on the plug base, ensuring it's securely fastened using a terminal screw.

If you're soldering the live and neutral wires together, do so carefully and securely using a soldering iron and solder.

Step 3: Connect the Neutral Wire

Identify the neutral (black or green/yellow) wire.

Connect the neutral wire to the neutral terminal on the plug base, ensuring it's securely fastened using a terminal screw.

If you're soldering the live and neutral wires together, do so carefully and securely using a soldering iron and solder.

Step 4: Connect the Earth Wire

Identify the earth (green/yellow) wire.

Connect the earth wire to the earth terminal on the plug base, ensuring it's securely fastened using a terminal screw.
