The consequences of a toxic family system don’t stop with the adults. They trickle down to children, too.When an entire family protects the person causing harm instead of addressing the harm, children are often the ones who pay the highest price. 😔 The smear campaign doesn’t stop with the person who left or was left, either. Isolation protects the family narrative, discourages accountability, and helps maintain the existing power dynamic.Children grow up watching accountability be avoided, harmful behavior be excused, and the person who spoke up be pushed out.Abuse isn’t defined solely by physical violence. Patterns of coercion, manipulation, chronic deception, and betrayal can also have profound effects on relationships and children when they are part of the family environment.Breaking the cycle isn’t what harms children.Teaching them to normalize harmful behavior does. Healthy families protect people.Toxic family systems protect appearances. Protecting children from this is ok! It can seem like a loss but in reality they aren’t losing anything of value.
