It was a lot of fun because I felt the characters were just being born before my eyes. But then remember to keep it in scope because they can sit and talk forever. Although I have other ideas I only focus on what's happening at the moment. The chapter so I don't wander off too much.

I tried just going by thumbnails and writing as I drew but I just ended up getting stuck. What I had been doing is just free writing and letting the characters just do what they want and i ended up the next day just refining the dialogue and what they did.

This is very similar to what Im doing. Though very vague as like with drawing a rough sketch. I let the stuff I write sit for a while and then edit what I think sound better. Still lots I want to learn because its uncharted territory for me :)

So question to comic artists and writers. When you draft a chapter or story do you just hash it out first in writing and then work alongside thumbnail drawings? Or just write the scene, dialogue and panel descriptions then get to thumbnails and the page itself. curious about your process :)

Its like to them it was a steady paycheck dubbing some show from overseas but ya can honestly tell they lived and breathed those characters they played.

I have a genuine appreciation for all voice actors in the early days like in the 80s and early 90s that did such wonderful performances but went uncredited.

I didn't know this either but a fun fact was that Mad House did animation for this film too. Whether they did the full production or helped I dunno but that's pretty dang cool.

Just the way Kuruku first presented like in a horror movie. just a ball of light at first and then just comes down the chimney and with just a neutral expression zapping people into these block figures.

I would also highly recommend Eric Goldbergs book animation crash course. Which is a great general overview on animation. Richard Williams book leans more heavily on walk cycles, timing and spacing.

Meandering path is pretty much how i describe many of the first Gumby episodes. Especially with they first one where he dies on the moon, saved by his dad, brought back put in an iron lung and revived.

I'm beginning to understand why my previous attempts at making comics failed. That is having all these ideas and wanting to get to stuff I thought was "cool" rather than just let the narrative elements unfold naturally and let it just flow rather than just "suddenly! The Aliens invaded!!!"

Its a weird thing this writing business. I sit there thinking, man I could be drawing this instead as I'm just freewriting stuff down. Just whatever comes to mind. Let it sit for a day or two and it'd like. Wait, instead of him saying that so aggressively, I'll soften it and make her say it instead.
