ARRGH I LOVE fighting gryphons but I'm so unlucky this #dd2 run!! First time I'm too underleveled, second time it caught us very low on health and scrambling, third time I was in the middle of a quest and NOW--- fucker dropped me right in front of a drake at lvl 21 😭😭😭 Gryphons are assholes.

Scene: The background is a screenshot from the game, the characters are hand drawn. Shadow-Cursed Lands in BG3, Campsite, the abandoned cabin ontop of the hill. Slate, my friend's Dark Urge character is coming up the stairs while my drow cleric Illiya is waiting for him, standing by the door. They look at each other as they speak

Slate: So, how does it look...?
Illiya: Quite good, actually! A bit messy, but at least no bodies. Plus, it's dry, so my books will be safe (he's a Sage and has been collecting every book found in the campaign)

Change of Pov, we're looking at Illiya in the doorframe from the inside now, seeing Slate approaching after he climbed the stairs. Both of them are relaxed, Slate looks around. Illiya is facing slate, lifting an arm in an 'explaining' motion.

Slate: Good. Looks defensible as well...

Change of POV, we're behind the characters now as they look inside the cabin onto a double bed standing by a very romantic looking fireplace. Both men stare at it, not speaking.

Same panel as before, with the change that Illiya looks up questioningly at a slightly stressed Slate who just had to pass both a Wisdom and Constitution check to make sure he doesn't give in to the "gay urges". Both Checks are successful! Yay!

- game design is great, my character could figure out that durge is probably a bhaalspawn naturally long before the game confirms it - lots of character traits were decided by in game events (slate is a neat-freak/illiya enjoys eating) - thx to the kissing/romance scene mod maker you saved our lives

Some short TL;DR points: - cleric/paladin combo op - resist durge is extremely rewarding - durge has a rly sad backstory - durge is only a murderhobo if you rp them to be - playing with a friend is fun - rping through emotes is great, Illiya writes and prays a lot - we buried all refugee bodies

What makes this playthrough compelling is the rp as we build these characters with all their lil quirks and flaws, and the Durge's story has elevated this greatly. I even write down in a journal as we play, as Illiya takes notes of basically everything. We're in Act 3 now, close to the lower city.

Illiya went with Shart but only had a drink with her, he didn't kiss her. This situation created great rp between the characters. Illiya was grumpy for a while, and Astarion - who disliked Illiya anyway for his good-heartedness - and Illiya are not on great terms. Even now in Act 3 the approval is

each other as a loving couple. Initially I thought Slate was gonna date Astarion cause Astarion + Durge is a fun combo and Illiya would like Shart cause of Selûne/Shar back-and-forth. But by the party I knew Illiya actually really liked Slate, who went to sleep with Astarion that night.

I also notice how my friend really got into the Durge story. So many people think that Durge is just an edgy murderhobo, but in reality, there's so much more to the Dark Urge's story. It's tragic how Durge never has been allowed to be their own person, and you learn so much about their abusive past

Paladin+Cleric combo remains OP. The inquisitor went down after 3 rounds, Z'rell died in first round, Ketheric managed to down Illiya, but then gave us a cinematic moment by shield-bashing Slate right before he in the cutscene went "ENOUGH!"

My lil cleric's the reason why I at least skim every *single* book for the first time in this game. Their fighting styles complement each other extremely well, too. We're playing on Tactician which was a challenge despite the drowbröthers being bullies back then, but Slate and Illiya *melt* enemies

Illiya found mentions of the Sarevok as well as someone with murder urges early on, then Karlach reminded him Sarevok was a Bhaalspawn after meeting Jaheira. By then, Illiya had a good theory on what Slate was before the second killing is even ordered by Sceleritas Fel. Just through reading books.

One of the most immersive things to me is the Dark Urge aspect of their story. Slate is a resist Durge, and so after Alfira's death Illiya decided to study this man like a bug while watching him as much as he could at night. And the game organically lets your characters learn about the murder urge

It's rly hard for me not to go into too much detail - I will fail to keep this short, I have so much to say- but this is easily the most immersive, cinematic playthrough I've had. I played with Skelepun before, we had our DROWBRÖTHERS playthrough last year. But Illiya and Slate are something else
