Right, so since we might hear a lot about the Welland Canal in the coming days, weeks, and months, or not, the canal also served as the primary mechanism for invasive sea lamprey and alewives (herring) to eventually colonize the upper Great Lakes.

We are about near or at the juncture of the season where we probably begin to catch more chinook salmon each trip than coho salmon

Our catches will probably begin to evolve a little bit from the mostly all coho hauls to those that include steelhead and king salmon as well. And yesterday's catch certainly showed that.

Four of the five species represented here. Some of our coho have departed familiar waters. However a big school of lake trout have taken up residence. A correlation? Or no? And one rod caught all seven trout. And it wasn’t even a ‘trout rig’.

I’m not saying I sell appliances but I do sell a service to a similar consumer category at similar prices. And I’ll say that in the 19th season of doing this, coupled with record high fuel prices, it’s the most challenging business climate I’ve seen.

Cathy celebrated her birthday aboard the Indy and we quickly caught a limit of coho salmon, for the cause. I still have this Sunday morning, May 3, open for a 7am departure for anyone who wants to capitalize on the best tasting salmon in the world!

Andy & crew from Iowa said they were interested in some larger fish this morning. With coho schools on thicker end of the spectrum, challenge accepted. We explored less familiar water this season & were still in coho but were able to get a few lake & brown trout for some size & species diversity.

While the winds weren’t particularly kind to us today, the lake was. As we racked a bunch of big brown trout, a few lake trout, and stacked a pile of coho on the cleaning table… for the guests who traveled here from Iowa.
