Well, it rained last night. 5.47” at our house, to be precise. We are fine, and the neighborhood is mostly good (a few wet basements). But wow, there was a lot of flash flooding around the Omaha metro last night!

She's right, of course - keep talking about your books! I wrote Wilder Weather: What Laura Ingalls Wilder Teaches Us About the Weather, Climate, and Protecting What We Cherish. Nonfiction book that draws from Laura's experiences (she lived through a lot!) to apply to weather/climate now and future.

Tracks with AWSSI to date, too.
Map of the contiguous 48 states with red dots and diamonds dominating the western half of the US, indicating mild to record mild AWSSI, respectively. Purple, blue, and yellow dots dominate the eastern half, indicating extreme, severe, and average AWSSI categories, respectively. No sites have purple diamonds, which means that none are record extreme severity.

Since he isn't on Bluesky, pass on to DK that I think he is absolutely right. It might "just mean more," but it doesn't mean they just win more. SEC has shown they aren't special. Their "strength of schedule" is a phantom based on the myth that SEC is better. Also, pass on to DK to get an acct here.

Appreciate the sentiment, but 1-day boycotts just don't matter to big companies. Most people buy the same stuff before/after, so it doesn't end up hurting their bottom line. Forget a 1-day boycott. Retract as much spending as you can. With the money you're saving, buy more at local businesses.

"Misery Index" (a.k.a. Accumulated Winter Season Severity Index #awssi) says not very miserable in places that are normally miserable.
Accumulated Winter Season Severity Index shows a lot of mild winter-to-date conditions from northern New England through the Great Lakes and central/northern Plains to the High Plains and West. Severe conditions across the Ohio River valley to the Southeast.

Not even the GFS, which typically has no trouble conjuring up apocalyptic snow totals, can come up with any snow anywhere near us in the next 384 hours.

I can’t be the only one with a Wizard of Oz/ #Wicked theme tree this year!

Zoom in to a Christmas tree trimmed with gold ribbon, focus on a Wizard of Oz tornado ornament and Emerald City ornament. Zoom in on a Christmas tree trimmed with gold ribbon, focused on a ruby slippers ornament and a Barbie ornament that looks a bit like Glinda in a gold tulle dress.
