For #ShowMeYourKnits 🍂 autumn colors week, here's my late entry, which I'm considering wearing instead of a sweater for Rhinebeck: a handspun shawl in brilliant vibes more than proper autumn colors #menwhoknit #queerknitters #shawlknitting #knitsky
A handknit wrap featuring scalloped stripes drapes over a stone wall. The stripes include black, yellow, orange, hot coral pink, and blue.Closeup of the blue, orange, and pink end of the shawl laid over a stone wallThe beginning of the shawl in fiery pinks, yellow, orange, and black. Two cakes of handspun yarn contrast light amd dark colorways. The blue and black yarn has a Starry Night (van Gogh) strand, while the other cake of yarn shows bright colors of the sunset.

I think I cracked the code on the second day at the Garden State Sheep and Fiber Festival, where I hosted a free informational display about spinning. This free, hands-on learning station was designed for kids and curious folks of all ages. Eye-catching and informative, I daresay! #MenWhoKnit
Two tables dressed with floral print tablecloths covered in wooden bowls, flower bouquets and rainbow fiberA closer view of one table with a rainbow of wool top pouring from a vase. The game: one of these is fiber from a different breed of sheep. Bonus round: which breeds are they? (Hint: Merion and Bluefaced Leicester)

I love that it got people examining and feeling the fiber and demonstrating that they could distinguish between breeds.

To the left, a sign reads "make a yarn worm" - using a strip of wool top and a mere dowel. This gave a way to demonstrate things about twist, using hands in cooperation, plying, and more. One bowl had finished yarn worms that kids or gameshow winners could take if they didn't want to make one.

For WIPs week at #ShowMeYourKnits here's my current obsession. It's a secret for now, so you get the wrong side. This is my second attempt, but my third time using this rainbow 🌈 yarn from Purl's Yarn Emporium. I am really liking how it's coming out. #menwhoknit #queerknitters

Follow up to my earlier post for #ShowMeYourKnits shawls week... I finished my Ribbon Wrap after 5 years! Pattern by illitilli Yarn is acrylic based (stripes in Plymouth Yarns Encore) because I made it as a charity shawl. #menwhoknit #queerknitters #shawlknitting
Unhinged: A man gaily leans backward while apparently laughing and casually holding up a striped graphic shawl.

After taking this photo, I'm pretty sure I've seen it done before in a knitting pattern flyer or something. Drama in a knitted garter stitch wrap: a man poses dramatically wrapped in a shawl featuring graphic teal stripes against a grey background The shawl held stretched out shows a striped "ribbon" zigzagging across its length.Same as first image, but with background changed to an overgrown field bordered by trees

Double dip for #ShowMeYourKnits Two-Timers week: I'm (re)sharing a few sweaters I liked enough to knit/crochet them twice #MenWhoKnit #queerknitters #SweaterVest #cableknitting #FavoriteKnits
Dr. G's Memory Vest by Kirsten Kapur is a cabled vest with a classic look that is really pleasant to make. Each was knit with a single hank of Briar Rose Fibers Charity. At top, a man models a dark blue cabled vest. Below, he models the same vest in a variegated brown. This all-over cabled sweater is a favorite of mine to make and wear, as it looks great and makes for a warm layer. The way the seaming came together was really satisfying. Pattern is Saven by Meghan Babin. The grey version above in Cascade 220 is great, but the brown one below in Seacolors Yarnery wool is wonderfully insulating due to the woolen spun yarn. Pictured: two images of a man wearing a heavily cabled sweater, one grey and one brown.Jared Flood's Timberline: I knit the green cabled cardigan with its epic shawl collar, only to find it anywhere little big for me. My partner was happy to claim it, and I loved seeing it on him. I knit a second one for myself a bit smaller, but with only two matching hanks of Briar Rose Fibers Charity I needed a bit more - so I got a third hank in a colorway that was intentionally related but different and worked a fade near the shoulders. I found the dramatic cables particularly easy to follow, keeping the knitting moving along.
Pictured: two images of different men wearing versions of the same design cardigan with a shawl collar and branching cables.I've started a second Islanders Vest, adding in a bit of shaping. In the top image, a man plays the harp in a yarn shop while wearing a light naturally colored vest knit in Seacolors Yarnery wool. Below, a purple expanse of knit and purl textures on a park bench. Yarn is Harrisville Designs Highland

It's #ShowMeYourKnits 2 year anniversary, and @livrunsfast.bsky.social has called the theme as things knit twice or more. I have many things in this category, since I often do a bit of work to make my process enjoyable and want to make use of it. Or perhaps I loved the rhythm. Here's a few:
A collage of two images of a lace wrap worked in worsted weight yarn, one in blue and one in green. The blue wrap hangs off a drying rack to show light through its patterned eyelets. The rhythm of the changing sections of stitches keeps things interesting. The green wrap is laid out on a log, showing an overview of the piece. I basically recharted the entire pattern because the included charts were only for two of the four stitches and weren't very clear. This was a motivator to make my effort worthwhile in the setup by knitting it again. Pattern is Cadia Wrap, yarn is Briar Rose Fibers Charity Two images of garter stitch gloves. I knit the blue-purple pair above from Briar Rose Fibers Charity and fell in love with the simplicity and ease of making these gloves; I almost immediately began the blue-green pair below with handspun yarn. Pattern is Sideways Gloves 8-ply dk by Shara Made. Two images of a person with glasses and beard wearing a double length cowl in two main color bands, punctuated by contrasting dots of a third color. I designed the (Aren't We) Clever Cowl to make the most of a variegated yarn by isolating the stitches. It turned out to also be a fun rhythm, which I always love, so I've made at least six or seven. Yarn in both samples is Madelinetosh Farm Twist.

Here's a late entry for last week's #ShowMeYourKnits theme of tools: my NXTPAPER 14 tablet, which I also use for sheet music, and the #KnitCompanion app. It makes charts really approachable for my brain that quickly gets overwhelmed with too much visual info. The big screen is a winner, too.
A purple piece of cabled knitting rests in front of a large tablet device that is propped up in landscape mode atop a lap desk. A cable chart shows clearly on the large screen, and purl stitches are colored differently from the rest of the chart. On the highlighted row, the purl stitches show stitch counts to make the process of knitting the row easy.

Took yesterday off from spinning to knit with my handspun. I'm relishing the texture of the woolen yarn after its bath. I did card another batch of rolags. Come to think of it, I did sneak a bit of spindle spinning at work, but not much to count for anything. #ShowMeYourKnits #WhatsOnYourNeedles

Carded up a few more rolags. I'm trying to achieve a lighter rolag on the drum carder, but the toothy fiber might be partly to blame. This time I made more rolags from the single batch. Next time I will try loading less fiber onto the carder. Now to spin them! #spinningwool #fiberprep

I just did a bit of chain-plying on the spindle, so I thought I'd try to share a few moments (a bit awkwardly when juggling the phone and spinning) Getting started: establishing a loop, building enough of a leader to secure the yarn on the spindle
I tied a loop, then pulled a loop through that loop. This loop actually came undone before I could get started, so I had to redo it. I placed this loop on the hook of the spindle and pulled a length through. This was the moment when the initial loop came undone. The key was to start adding twist in the plying direction to help se use the loop. Once a long enough leader was plied, I pin ged this end and removed it from the hookI held the leader end against the shaft amd began winding it around for a couple inches, then began twirling the spindle as I angled the yarn back down to create x's. I call this the ballerina slipper move

Got Connie Mac (short for MacGuyver'd Contraption) back out to spin another 1oz(25g) of the Malbrigo Merino I got 🥰
This is a picture of a diy charkha-style spinning wheel, so bear with me on the description.

The structural base of the spinning wheel is a ladder made of 2 thick knitting needles with popsicle-stick rungs. The drive wheel is a fly-reel. The maidens/mother-of-all is made from a prescription bottle, with slits cut into it to allow for a quill spindle and drive-band. The quill spindle is a knitting needle, with an elastic band wrapped about an inch wide around the blunt end, so the drive band doesnt slip.

The fiber being spun is Malabrigo Nube Black, which is a fine Merino Wool fiber.

I need to put a cozy on my smoothie, but the color is so pretty and matches the cozy. Knitting pattern is my own: ravel.me/color-lovin-... #coastercozy #coffeecozy #willygdesigns #menwhoknit #queerknitters #strandedcolorwork
A knitted colorwork cozy in an ombre of orange, pink, and purple rests on a balcony rail next to a smoothie that is bright purple (blue spirulina smoothie mix plus pink dragonfruit and mango)Since I used all frozen fruit, the smoothie container is very cold. An insulating cozy gives a lovely sensory experience on several levels.
A hand holds a tall, narrow smoothie container dressed in a knitted cup cozy made with eight vibrant colors of wool.

It's yellows week for #ShowMeYourKnits I used to knit charity shawls with a church group, so I wanted to use some donated yarn, even though it is not at all my cup of tea. So I held it with several shades of Berroco Vintage. It was a fun way to play with a color I disliked. I love the result!
A skein of pale yellow acrylic yarn that was donated. No doubt someone had intended to make a baby item.

Why do people think pale yellow is needed for babies? I'm not a fan. I'd rather use brighter colors, or even grey.Closeup of marked knit fabric alternating bands of stockinette with garter ridges. The warmer yellow held with the pale yellow warms up the color, like mixing paints.Sunlight and shadows play across the finished shawl, revealing an ombre effect from yellow to green A rectangular textured shawl spans the back of a garden bench, showing color bands ranging from yellow to green

I have an epic Work In Progress that I rescued from the naughty step last time this theme came up for #ShowMeYourKnits Behold my Domino Star Stashbuster Afghan. So far, I've managed to use only yarns from stash, though my resolve is weakening. #MenWhoKnit #queerknitters
A star-shaped quilt style afghan comprised of many petals. Colors arranged in rings radiate outward from yellow-orange to green to pink, with light grey accents.A view of the blanket spread on a table while visiting a clay studio shows the colors better.
