I‘m not sure if he is that big of an idiot, or lying intentionally (again). Difficult to say which would be worse. Most concerning is that the rest of us don’t know which is happening. This is strategic chaos, intended to confuse people into accepting authoritarianism based on uncertainty and fear.

And none of that “it hurts business“ nonsense. Every store is full of people. Every person’s hands are full of things they bought. People are the indicator species of a successful urban environment, not cars.

There are no words for how nice it is to be in the very middle of an extremely large city without any noisy, dangerous, polluting cars. I was pleasantly surprised to walk onto Ginza Street at noon and find only people enjoying a beautiful day. Congrats Tokyo for winning @thewaroncars.bsky.social

OPPD will complete our Integrated System Plan (ISP, updated IRP name) by the end of the year. That will be followed by procuring new generation resources. It will be critical to recognize the benefits “offensively cheap” solar brings to our utility, and accelerate deployment of this resource.

EPA regulation hasn’t been the primary driver of emission reductions for the past decade. Clean energy is cheaper, and faster to build when utilities need to replace assets that have reached the end of their useful life.

Electric generation resource planning, operations, and retirement at the end of useful life must be managed by utilities and regulators who are tasked with maintaining reliable and affordable grid operations. This ruling is a win for local control and efficient markets.

I really appreciate what Julia and Brandon (and Shane) started and have continued, but it’s just been getting farther and farther away from discussions I can about and want to spend time hearing. Even with the extremely explicit name/logo they are “climate hushing” more than most others.

@volts.wtf has remained focused and done more to remind people about the need for organizing and political wins/leadership to achieve decarbonization than any other podcast. Even as he continues to provide great info on DERs and new clean energy tech. I’m excited to hear this team up episode.

But this episode set a new record for “make me want to smash my phone to make it stop” which is so disappointing. When the show started, it was amazing. Since they have been funded by “conservative energy action” they basically stopped pretending that climate even matters. overcast.fm/+AAMukKijw7o

Same. Basically everything Wood Mac has been putting out in the last year, “Alright, that was the last episode I’m listening to.” There are a few gems, but mostly it is “the system is designed for gas, it can’t/shouldn’t be changed.” And yet, I keep banging my head against that wall.

New solar project details: The utility has entered into a power purchase agreement with Sandhills Energy for the Burt County Solar Project, a 250 MW solar facility in Burt County. Expected to be in service in 2029, the project will generate enough electricity to power approximately 50,000 homes.

Since the administration change a huge amount of coverage has very noticeably shifted away from highlighting how dominant clean energy is and how fast fossil fuels are shrinking. Another example of media rolling over in advance to not draw response from poorly informed and vindictive policy makers.

It is understandable why he would not want to discuss customer sites resources, but pretending DERs, VPPs, demand flexibility, efficiency, etc. don’t have any role to play is actively ignoring reality.

As a nation we can and should have updated laws to protect our environment, specifically including our climate, due to the intentional undermining, rollback, and repeal of the precedent and laws which led to so much progress and improvement in quality of live over the past several decades.

Short answer: no That is managed by each utility and considered competitively sensitive information. Market dispatch by SPP is based (mostly) on least cost, but the market price does not reflect specific costs for any given facility.

Charging over night maximized wind energy from SPP, and my car is ready to go in the morning. Better for me the grid, the climate. This isn't revolutionary, impressive, difficult. With all of these benefits it is *shocking* how many utilities don't have EV managed charging. Sadly, including my own.

EV managed charging reduces strain and cost on the grid. And it’s easy. Took a trip from Omaha to KC, used a DCFC on the way down, arrived home with ~30 miles range. Instead of charging this afternoon, I waited until now. Utilities should incentivize this extremely simple, beneficial behavior.

Stopped the test after 10 days. Might have been able to keep going, but forecast of several cloudy days was enough for me to call it. This test was during the easiest part of the year, no HVAC (neither heat, AC) during the test. In bare essentials mode, 3 kW solar + 15 kWh storage was workable.

Very interested to listen as OPPD is currently in early stages of designing a *public power* led DCP program. We don't have pressure to extract value for shareholders, the focus is entirely on how DERs benefit to customer owners individually and the utility in aggregate. bsky.app/profile/will...
