William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Boromirism - brilliant! If you made that one up then well done and if not then thanks for sharing it! 040
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 29/09/2026That's fascinating. I can't do iPlayer because I'm in Ireland. Is there an accompanying website listing companies or organisations? 200
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 29/09/2026It's Hugh Jackman, isn't it? www.bbc.com/news/live/c6...bbc.comRAF Fairford latest: Incident 'clearly involves' foreign actor, says US secretary of stateThe secretary of state, who did not provide further details, was speaking to US media after five men arrested on suspicion of terror offences were released on bail. 011
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 29/09/2026You should read about the role that Buddhism plays in the conflicts in Myanmar. Historically Buddhism spread across a huge swathe of Asia under the sword of men like Ashoka People are violent. The religion or ideology that they use to justify the violence changes from era to era and place to place 000
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Is it just me or does this whole Fairford incident have a very Slow Horses feel to it? 000
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Ireland's not really there. It's very much a two tier system here. 020
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I genuinely can't see how anyone could self identify as Christian and then vote Reform and support Farage. The two things are mutually opposed. 010

William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Tony Blair Time Lord That's why he adopted that ever so fetching 1st Doctor hairstyle a while back. 000
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Well if you think you'll need a hip replacement in Ireland within the next forty years, you should get your name on the waiting list now... 040
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 24/09/2026The better parallel might be Putin = Hitler Xi = Stalin The Uigher concentration camps, population replacement in Tibet and cult of personality stuff are much more reminiscent of Stalin than Mussolini. Putin is practically copying Hitler beat for beat just with much less success militarily. 050
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Yes, that's the common denominator with the vote Tory and vote Reform crowd. I would love to get into the detail of exactly what that means. Is it "Kick out the Muslims"? Is it "Let's get back to patriarchy"? Is it "Tough on crime as long as it's not my crimes"? 020
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Sorry for sounding like a broken record on this but do these people just throw dice to decide who to vote for or does economics no longer come into it? Left leaning economically, working class, Hindu, public sector worker... Roll 2 D6 and if you score above 8 vote Tory. 120
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 23/09/2026As an Ulsterman the first part of this about English = British = English is just really annoying. But the later section with Defoe is absolutely spot on and the same applies to just about every other "nation." I never in my life thought I would say that JRM is right! 000
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I don't really like ageing with JRM but William was descended from Rollo whose 10th century chronicler Dudo said was Danish. So he's descended from the Danes and the name Norman is just a corruption of Norseman many of whom were Danes. 000
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Don't get me started on how Americanised our children are... No, the car does not need gas at the gas station, it needs diesel because we live in Ireland not Kentucky. Rant over for the next 5 minutes... 220
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Oh well :-( Not a complete parallel then :-) Thanks for answering my questions! 100
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Is there also a Dublin Presbytery over there? 100
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 22/09/2026As an Irish Presbyterian this was initially a very confusing thing to read :-) A) You got the Presbytery name wrong it's Derry and Donegal here and B) When did they suddenly get so tech savvy? Best wishes to that alternative universe Donegal Presbytery! 110
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Another person with centre-left economic views voting for a far right party. What is going on here? 000
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 20/09/2026This is what shocked me about the Richard Dawkins nonsense. Dawkins (according to his books) believes that whatever a human "soul" appears to be is only a by-product of DNA's need to replicate and the highly evolved brain that supports it. He then goes on to effectively say that AI has a soul. 090
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Are the Israelis selling directly or through intermediaries? That should surely be a huge story 031
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Very strong 1980s post-apocalypse movie vibes from that machine. Expect Dolph Lundgren to appear, carrying an AK-47, smoking a cigar and wearing an eyepatch any minute now. 050
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 19/09/2026When all this is finally over they're going to have to put @theradr.bsky.social in charge of organising a National Repentance & Repair Commission to sort out the US's relationship with the rest of the world and itself. Starting with the families of the millions Trump killed by stopping USAID. 000

William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 18/09/2026It's such an odd name to people here on our side of the Atlantic where Tracy is almost exclusively a woman's name. 001

William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 16/09/2026The reporter is awful. She is defending the racism of the community with her words and telling this woman that somehow she's the odd one out here for not wanting to be racist. 020

William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 14/09/2026We have a Chocolatier in Tullamore? Spill the beans please :-) 100
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Good, if horrific, thread. We really are awful to each other as human beings. 100
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 13/09/2026I can't see Burnham allowing 3 independence referenda any time soon. It would be deeply disruptive for the North of Ireland which is going through a rough time anyway. I don't even think the Irish government would want that level of turmoil just now given how chaotic the world is getting. 011
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 13/09/2026nature it's worship directed to the production of beauty. Seeing as you brought them up, lighthouses are a great example of this. The Stevenson lighthouses around the UK and Ireland which are both functional and beautiful, were designed and built as an act of Christian worship. 000
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 13/09/2026I'm not American so don't really know about your picture on the left. Jesus says pay taxes so churches should pay their taxes like we do here in Ireland. All art, to a greater or lesser extent, comes from the human desire to worship. Whether that's God, eroticism or 100
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 12/09/2026have so much thought put in to how they look. Once we arrive back in Ireland everything just looks so dull and functional for the first few weeks back. So, cathedrals are great spiritually, civically and economically but beauty in the everyday human world is important too. 010
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Yes, as you probably guessed, I'm a Christian but would love our civic spaces and even our functional spaces to be much more beautiful rather than just plain and boring. We go on holiday to France in the summers quite regularly and their civic buildings and even things like motorway bridges 110
William Hayes @williamhayes.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Finally, it's a civic focal point for the Glasgow community. Prominent funerals, acts of remembrance and (once again) artistic performances take place there. Even if you don't believe in the God of its builders (I do) it's a worthwhile building artistically and economically. 140
