The empathy deficit for Uber and taxi drivers
Many in the tech world profess deep concern about AI’s future labor disruptions, but reactions to self-driving range from indifference to celebration, with little sign of compassion for those affected

Yeah. AGI is poorly defined. And irrespective of the definition, the idea of sudden disruption misunderstands the limits science progresses, irrespective of the amount of compute or ‘intelligence’ open.substack.com/pub/karel102...

We can discuss “domination” once it’s defined. Until then, it’s just an expression of emotions.

Thomas Muller @willemcd.bsky.social · 23/08/2025
Not trying to be pedantic but domination muddles what it pretends to clarify. If this simply about reducing alternative supplies and thus increasing fossil fuel prices? Or OPEC-like collusion? Is this about China dependency? Or are we imagining O&G companies restricting sales to blue california?

Agreed. AI also lessens the **need** for freedom. Last century, liberal societies with an educated & free middle class decisively won the economic competition. But an elite with AI might not need a free middle class for innovation & growth. And China may already be proving that point.
