Very happy to have figured out how to avoid Waffle House, who's franchisee is backing Cline in VA-06. The alternative is locally owned and has a Jalisco breakfast.

Tomorrow, on October 1, the biggest transfer of wealth from the working class to the wealthy hits a critical milestone. Many of the provisions from the Big Ugly Bill will go into effect, harming hundreds of thousands of Michiganders in order to create tax cuts for the richest people in America.

Fair. The plan appears to be more than just one data center though. I think the air quality and grid challenges are the more pressing concern. Unless some kind of carbon offset scheme is put into place, that's a concern too. Just relentless summer heat here, in a drought.

You really believe the Clean Air Act is being enforced, under this administration?

Sure, but again, if that "technology park" abuts a residential neighborhood, there's no plans/legal responsibility to mitigate impact. As prospective home buyers, we're just supposed to know all the details.

Ahh, but they said "light industrial" for the sites locally. I'm sorry, but if the site is running diesel generators, nothing "light" about it. It's a shell game, and its being done with interlocking unelected "development" boards with conflicts of interest. Your situation may be different.

Oh, so the data center folks are all vegans? That's great! Because indeed, I'm not eating alfalfa, but I'm definitely eating an animal raised on alfalfa. And I'll throw in an occasional Impossible breakfast sandwich as well.

I can only relate it back to my county, who are definitely not experts either. The point being is the developer needs to be on the hook for paying for the experts. Or else the municipality gets steamrolled. This all reminds me of the WPPSS fiasco. Nuclear then, data centers now. All bubble.

W.K. @willardk.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
Then why does the recent Mark Cuban paper posit differently, that municipalities are completely overmatched? Thank goodness the bond market will likely put a limit on the CAPEX growth.

There is literally no discussion re: providing residential solar to impacted residents. And the tax credits are gone, and the December 4 tariffs on panels are looming. Its all a massive redistribution of wealth.

OTOH, I can't eat data centers. Big Ag won the water wars, that's how it rolls out West.

Its a rounding error until multiple data center projects get approved. Not to mention the power bill and air pollution increases. Almost like the AI death cult has a PR problem, no?
110
W.K. @willardk.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
We are told, as residents, to conserve and stop using water. Apparently, these rules do not apply to data centers. That's a problem.

Idk about alfalfa, I don't live in Utah. Where I do live is the state with the most data centers. They are not popular, period. Admittedly, this local reservoir has 6 billion gallon capacity, but with the drought, its level is 47% down. www.westernvawater.org/water/reserv...

4 million gallons a day seems like a lot, no? Especially in the middle of a drought?
330
W.K. @willardk.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
I'm not following this either, as the local data centers projects proposed will use a minimum of 2 million gallons a day (the one site wanted 8 million gallons) from an already depleted reservoir. How's this a fake concern?

Cowlitz County used to be deep blue, but then flipped hard. Pacific went pretty red, but they seem to have moved purple. Lewis is.....Lewis County.

W.K. @willardk.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Each county within the district has different partisan splits. Clark is where the lion's share of votes exist, but a D has to perform well in the rural counties to make it happen. The 18th LD for example used to be deep red, thats less of the case these days.
000
W.K. @willardk.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
So I want to challenge the notion that its always been a red district, its more purple than anything. Brian Baird was successful until he started appearing on Fox News for example. But yes, let's say Mr. Hennrich gets elected to a county commission or state leg seat, the chances improve markedly.

W.K. @willardk.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Washington State also handicaps a primary challenge since folks don't register by party. You have to do your own voter ID, so you can't just mobilize base Dems from the outset.

W.K. @willardk.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
A primary challenge to a sitting congress person is neigh impossible. Thanks to @bhennrich.bsky.social for even attempting that run, but again, unless you have a million bucks out of the gate, it's just insurmountable in name ID and resources.
