In a statement on their Instagram and Facebook pages, The SoapGirls said "Black Mass" was "written against hatred" and "against mob violence," and that its "savages" "are not a race of people."
Screenshot of a statement posted by The SoapGirls' verified Instagram account. It reads in part:

“We have spent our lives standing up for individuality, outsiders, misfits and people being bullied, judged or persecuted for being who they are. Anyone is free to dislike us. Anyone is free to criticise our music, our opinions, our appearance or anything else about us. We will defend that freedom.
But we will also defend the truth about our art. “Black Mass" was written against hatred. It was written against mob violence. It was written because what we witnessed broke our hearts. More than a decade later, watching human beings once again being attacked because of where they come from breaks our hearts all over again. Humanity has no race. Hatred has no justification.
Violence is never the answer. Mie & Mille.”Screenshot of the chorus lyrics to Black Mass by The SoapGirls, released 2015: 'Savages are coming around, it's a black plague / Savages are coming around, they're on the rampage / Bloodlust is flying around, it's like a disease / Savages are coming around, I feel the unease / Savages are coming around, they hate the red bricks / Savages are coming around, they love the white chicks.'

Are you saying savages means people of colour? Because then you're the racist, how come you never dissected the bridge of the song?”

Throughout 2020 and 2021, the band's account pushed US election fraud and Jan 6 disinfo: "Antifa/blm was behind the attack on the capitol." They boosted Lin Wood's debunked "antifa infiltrator" photos — one that actually showed neo-Nazi Matthew Heimbach — and posted QAnon content.
