What’s your guess?   Should we use the unit of Monster Munch for all species’ weights?   If not, any alternative ideas?    Leave your answer to any/all these questions in the comments!    Keep an eye out in the comment section as we will let you know the right answer, shortly!

Our vet, Judith, can be forgiven for thinking this jay had blood all over its feet - we did, too. But, as it transpired, his toes were covered in red paint. Don't ask us why, we have no idea🤷‍♀️.  We'll be keeping him in for monitoring and, hopefully, his release will be just around the corner🤞.

Our first admit of the day, this poor feral pigeon.  Suffering canker, a common issue for pigeons, this adult found himself unable to take flight as a result.

Found near someone’s car - cold, weak, and weighing just 180g😣, this hoglet was safely transferred to us via a vet, vet nurse, Kayleigh, got to work right away. Once warmed up, this little one perked right up, had some fluids, and he even started eating, albeit in the laziest way possible.

The weekend saw the arrival of three tiny hoglets, the result of their nest being disturbed. Tragically, during the disturbance one of the hoglets suffered a deep wound to its back from a garden fork, causing irreparable damage, and our vet team had no choice but to end it's suffering.

Cold, dehydrated, and very unwell - a worrying sign as the weather turns colder and natural food sources start to dwindle. The vet team are doing their best to warm this hedgehog up in an incubator and provide warmed fluids to help rehydrate and stabilise her.

Arriving in a poor state, this vixen was barely responsive, dehydrated, and showing signs of possible kidney failure. Her temperature was too low to read, and additionally she was suffering from mange and also had a dangerously low glucose level. All signs of being in a critical state.

These two tiny nestling feral pigeons sadly got a trick instead of a treat this Halloween when their nest was disturbed. Luckily, the little ones were found with no injuries and clear signs that their devoted parents had been doing a wonderful job caring for them.

Transferred to us from a local vet practice after being found trapped in nylon netting, this female hedgehog has painful constriction injuries to the underneath of both her forelimbs, as a result😞. The vet team carefully cleaned and treated the injuries, before giving the hog some time to recover.

With petechiae, dehydration, an abscess, and being barely responsive, this vixen had a very guarded prognosis and whilst certainly not out of the woods, it is this kind of incredible wild resilience that we will never cease to be amazed by🤞🦊.

Having given this adult hog the space and time she needed to successfully rear her 4 hoglets, as we stood nervously back, the five of them were, recently, released back to the area they came from, where they can continue to play an important part in saving their species🦔.

Put your hands (wings) in the air if you're an adorable long-eared bat🦇!  Spookily, the number of bat patients we admit always increases towards Halloween...👀. But the long-eared bat is probably the coolest we see, just look at those ears😮.

Shot and entangled, this heron had a lucky escape😣.  The irony for this poor heron is that if he hadn't become entangled in netting, it's unlikely he would have been caught to receive treatment for his leg injury.

A few weeks ago, we posted about how hedgehogs come in different sizes, well, here's a perfect example🦔. These two are siblings, and we can certainly tell which is the runt. Weighing half the weight of his sister, he's got some catching up to do. We mean, he's not even grown into his ears, yet 🥺.

No, this kestrel isn't sad about it being Monday, tomorrow, she's down in the dumps because she weighs much less than she should, especially going into the harsh winter months. With a slight swelling to the outside of her left eye, too, we got her started on some much-needed fluids and pain relief.

It's not every day our vet team has to give a grass snake a warm bath, but that's exactly what the doctor (vet) ordered, to help rehydrate him.  Rescued by the RSPCA, after he was reported entangled in netting😩, the fly eggs on his body suggested he'd been there for a while😢.

Flashback Friday🦊 Our last group of fox cubs has finally headed out to their release site, and it's giving us all the feels🥹. Just look how tiny they all were. 201 of them! That's how many cubs you have enabled us to take in, this year.

The swan rescued after she crash-landed into a tree, last week, is back with her partner and cygnet, and this could well be one of the most endearing releases... ever😍!  Watch ’til the end for her sweet welcome home dance🥰.

How beautiful is this water rail? 🤩 This water rail was certainly grounded, when x-rays revealed a displaced coracoid (part of the scapula). This would have been causing significant pain for the bird when attempting flight.

Unfortunately, someone didn't give this swan the memo that she's a little too heavy to be trying to perch in trees...🫣 …which is exactly where she was found, trapped, after an obvious crash-landing.

This is not a happy chiffchaff chappie. But we wouldn't be either, if we'd been inside a cat’s mouth😥. Luckily for him, though, he hasn't sustained any injuries. Looking a little shocked about his ordeal, quite understandably, he'll be kept in for the next few days, for monitoring.

After being spotted out in daylight alongside her tiny hoglet, this pair were brought in to us. Sadly, mum was struggling to breathe and, despite our vet, Judith's, best efforts, she didn’t make it. Her little one, thankfully, is healthy and already showing a big appetite!

These two were just a couple of weeks away from fledging, when they were targeted by a feline predator. The pair will now have to remain with us whilst their injuries heal and we prepare them for the wild, again.

Believe it or not, in this photo, poor "Bambi's" injuries look much better than they did a few days ago. Caught in barbed wire around both of his hind legs, his constriction wounds took six days to fully develop, and the vet team have been cleaning and monitoring the injuries, regularly, ever since.

Rescued from pond netting, this redstart managed to come away unscathed from her ordeal and, once our vet, Judtih, had assessed that the bird could use all its extremities and was able to maintain flight, it was given a night of rest and recuperation, before being released back to its area.

It's not very often we see hedgehogs with puncture wounds, what with their 5000+ spines making it almost impossible for predators to infiltrate, but, this otherwise healthy male was transferred to us from a local vet practice, after a three-day stay. www.justgiving.com/campaign/wafequipmentappeal

You could forgive this fox for looking annoyed, given the multiple wounds across his back and legs.  Suffering with mange, as well as the wounds, this adult male is in, otherwise, great condition, weighing over 6kg. See? Healthy!

Collapsed and unable to use his rear legs, "Albany" was rescued by long-term volunteer, Mike and we’re happy to report that Albany has defied the odds. Following two days of little to no improvement, Albany was caught on CCTV, on his third day, standing up and eating!

Yes, this hoglet’s food bowl is bigger than her, but if you've ever cared for hoglets, you'll be aware of their penchant for walking through their food. We've been told it's our home-carers’ favourite hoglet move🤪.

Easily-stressed birds, like this goldcrest, may be small, but they can be our vet team’s biggest challenge.  Found grounded, once he arrived with us, vet nurse, Kayleigh, was able to give him a clean bill of health and test fly him - he passed with flying gold colours, which was a great relief.

This hedgehog was discovered trapped inside a pipe, along with another hedgehog that had, sadly, already passed away. Covered in dermatitis and the remanence of the deceased hedgehog, her ordeal would have been traumatising. But, thankfully, after a warm bath, she's eating well and a lot brighter.

"Barney" would like to show you his before and after, with his fluffy new coat coming through, since starting his mange treatment, last month. Whilst treatment for mange doesn't usually take very long, Barney is having to remain with us, as he is also has a small fracture to his ischium.

This young heron, unfortunately, was the loser in a heron vs heron dual, where we suspect he'd taken on an older, more experienced adult. But, with everything normal on assesment, we suspect his ego to have sustained the only injury, as after a few days R&R, he's ready for his release.

Unresponsive and fighting for his life😢… That's how "Heath" was found, covered in fly strike. How long he'd been lying, life-less, before he was found, we don't know. But the important thing was that he was found, and rescuer, Lee, headed straight to him.

This female hedgehog arrived weak and unable to fully curl up, exposing her limbs, face and core, which would make her vulnerable to predation. Her elongated oval shape is a sign of her poor body condition, and she weighted just two-thirds of what she should.

We're happy to report our hoglet siblings are doing well, albeit deafening their home-carer with their piercing calls. They have been joined by their third sibling, where the three of them will remain together for a few weeks, until they're big enough to start exploring the big wild world. 🦔

Don't let this snug buzzard fool you, just 24 hours after his arrival he was chomping at the bit for freedom. He arrived weak and lethargic, but our vet team had to prioritise stabilising this beautiful bird, before carrying out further investigations as to why he had found himself grounded.
