Zuishin-in Temple, located in Yamashina Ward on the eastern edge of Kyoto, is an imperial-head (monzeki) temple of the Shingon sect of Esoteric Buddhism, established in 991 AD by the high priest Ninkai. The temple precincts are historically renowned for their deep association with Ono no Komachi, the celebrated Heian-period waka poetess and legendary beauty, who is said to have spent her later years in quiet seclusion here.
