It's unusual that we get this sort of display in Oregon. Taken with a smartphone and enhanced a little, but it was still amazing to see aurora #Lights by eye. 📷 #photography #EastCoastKin #BlueSkyArtShow #oregon #sky #aurora

An aurora display fills the night sky with bands of vivid green near the horizon shading upward into deep magenta and violet, with faint vertical rays streaking through. A ragged line of conifers stands in full black silhouette across the bottom, and a scattering of stars is visible through the glow.

Summer is ending. 📷 #photography #closeup #EastCoastKin #plantphotography #texture #artphotography #beautyindecay

A dried seedhead atop a dark stem, its packed pale golden bristles fanning out like the worn tip of a paintbrush, glowing softly against a deep brown-black background. Spent, darkened flower heads trail off to the left in soft focus, and the very shallow depth of field and low light give the image a quiet, almost melancholy stillness.

Trending towards #Golden. #photography #closeup #plantphotography #rosegarden #flowerphotography #BlueSkyArtShow #eastCoastKin #rose #morning

A fully open golden-amber rose, its petals shading from deep saffron at the center to paler cream-yellow at the ruffled outer edges, with fine water droplets beading on the inner petals. The bloom is sharply rendered against a softly blurred background of dark foliage and muted brown, so the warm glow of the flower carries the whole frame.

Floral undulations. #photography #closeup #plantphotography #rosegarden #flowerphotography #BlueSkyArtShow #Undulating #eastCoastKin #rose #morning

A tight macro photograph of an apricot-orange rose, filling the frame with overlapping petals whose rippled, undulating edges roll across the image like sunlit dunes or waves. Raking light picks out the fine texture and crystalline sparkle of the petal surfaces while dropping the folds between them into deep shadow, reducing the flower to a study of curve, ridge, and warm color.

Just a curve. #photography #closeup #EastCoastKin #BlueSkyArtShow #Minimal #texture #artphotography #bokeh

A softly curving pale surface sweeps diagonally through the frame, scattered with tiny water droplets and marked by faint parallel striations, set against a dark background with a hint of deep green. Only a narrow band along the curve's edge is in sharp focus, the rest falling away into soft blur, producing a spare, almost abstract study of line, texture, and light.

Looks like a dandelion, but different, I think. #macrophotography #photography #EastCoastKin #closeup #plantphotography #naturephotography #bokeh

A dandelion-type seedhead photographed straight-on against a pure black background, its white feathery seed parachutes radiating outward from a dark center in a near-perfect sphere. The delicate filaments catch the light with hints of rust and amber toward the tips, and the whole form reads like an exploding firework or a star suspended in empty space

A fully open cream-and-yellow rose with densely packed, ruffled petals photographed against a near-black background. Strong directional light rakes across the bloom from the left, illuminating the inner petals with warm golden tones while casting deep shadows between the layers, giving the flower a richly sculpted, three-dimensional presence. A few dark green leaves are just visible at the lower left.

A rusty plate. #Chaos and entropy are often cousins -- both showing disorder, lack of pattern or organization. #photography #closeup #EastCoastKin #BlueSkyArtShow #abstract #texture #artphotography #beautyindecay

A close-up of a heavily rusted steel plate filling the entire frame, its surface a richly textured landscape of bubbled, pitted, and pockmarked oxidation in deep burnt reds, russet oranges, and dark browns, with faint streaks of the original bare metal still visible beneath. The varied tones and complex surface texture give the corroded metal an almost painterly, abstract quality.

One of many waterfalls on planet Earth. This is a "little planet" version of a 360 panorama that can be seen here: worldwidepanorama.org/wwp1209/JimC... #photography #360panorama #littleplanet #EastCoastKin #BlueSkyArtShow #Earth #landscapephotography #waterfall #oregon #pnw

A 360-degree panorama of a Pacific Northwest forest waterfall rendered as a "little planet" projection, which wraps the scene into a sphere. The mossy rock and flowing water of Upper North Falls form the curved ground at the center, while tall conifers and lush green trees radiate outward in all directions like spokes, their tops pointing toward a white overcast sky at the edges of the frame. The result transforms a serene forest waterfall scene into a miniature, self-contained world.

Telephoto view of ocean swells breaking into white foam, with no horizon or shoreline visible — just layered ranks of dark blue-grey waves rolling across the view. Where each wave crests and curls, the water turns a vivid translucent green before dissolving into churning white water, capturing the raw power and color of the Pacific sea.

A flower head in mid-bloom, its spherical umbel of pale pink-white buds and tiny open florets radiating outward on slender pink-green pedicels from a single thick green stem, photographed against a pure black background. A #Big river cutting through the mountains. A repost, but since most of my photography is of the small... #photography #EastCoastKin #columbiarivergorge #pnw #BlueSkyArtShow #oregon

This image captures a serene waterway known as the Columbia River Gorge, framed by steep, forested slopes on both sides. The water displays beautiful gradations from greenish-gold tones in the foreground to deeper blue hues as it extends toward the distance. Densely wooded shorelines with evergreen and some deciduous trees line both banks, with the right slope showing touches of autumn color. Layered mountain ridges recede into the misty background, creating a sense of depth and atmospheric perspective. The overcast sky features soft white and gray clouds with hints of blue breaking through, casting diffused light across the peaceful landscape. The scene conveys the quiet majesty of Pacific Northwest.

Layers of petals. #photography #closeup #plantphotography #rosegarden #flowerphotography #eastCoastKin #rose #morning

A fully open purple rose, its densely layered petals stacked in sweeping tiers, photographed against a near-black background. The petal edges catch a pale lavender-white light that separates each layer from the next, giving the bloom a sculptural, almost architectural quality. The deep violet tones and dramatic low-key lighting lend the image a moody, velvety richness.

Surprised to find this #Growing in the rose garden. #photography #closeup #texture #EastCoastKin #BlueSkyArtShow #artphotography #bokeh #b&w #blackandwhite

A solitaire engagement ring hangs from a thorny rose stem bearing several tight buds and dark leaves, photographed in black and white. The ring's stone catches a glint of light against the dark foliage, while a soft circular bokeh highlight glows in the background — a quietly romantic image pairing symbols of love and growth.

Capturing the rain. #photography #closeup #plantphotography #EastCoastKin #bokeh #leaves #waterdrop

A young rose shoot with serrated leaves edged in deep red-burgundy rises from a dark background, bearing several large, perfectly spherical water droplets that catch and reflect light like glass lenses. The largest drop, perched at the leaf junction near the top, contains a miniature reflected world within it. The vivid green-and-red color contrast of the new growth against the near-black background gives the image a dramatic, low-key quality.

A #Quiet morning in the rose garden. #photography #naturephotography #rosegarden #BlueSkyArtShow #eastCoastKin #rose #morning

A single fully open yellow-gold rose glows at the top of a long stem rising from deeply shadowed blue-green foliage, with soft red roses blurred in the background on either side. A very #Wide (360 degree, actually) picture of a local wildlife refuge. This is part of a 360 panorama. Here is the interactive sphere: link.wholereality.net/dY364t Details in alt-text. #photography #oregon #naturephotography #nature #landscape #EastCoastKin #BlueSkyArtShow #360photography

Located ten miles south of Corvallis, Oregon, the William L. Finley National Wildlife Refuge protects the largest remaining tract of native Willamette Valley wet prairie — fields of wildlife food crops interspersed with Oregon white oak savanna, meandering creeks with bottomland ash forest, old growth bigleaf maple, and native prairie. This is an exception of ecological rarity: today only 1 percent of the valley's wet prairies remain, and within this refuge's more than 5,000 acres you'll find the Willamette Valley's largest remaining intact wet prairie.

The refuge is also exceptional for a very specific bird: dusky Canada geese are unlike other Canada goose subspecies, with a population hovering around 16,000. They nest on Alaska's Copper River Delta and winter almost exclusively in the wetlands of the Willamette Valley.

This was taken for the recent "Exception" theme on the World Wide Panorama Project. https://worldwidepanorama.org/

An extreme close-up looking straight down into the center of a pink rose, the frame filled almost entirely by the intricate reproductive structure — scores of dark-tipped stamens with curled, comma-shaped anthers radiating outward from a golden-yellow disc surrounding a central amber pistil. The soft pink petals are reduced to blurred bands at the edges, serving only as a pastel frame for what is essentially a macro portrait of the flower's inner architecture.

Spring dreams. 📷 #photography #plantphotography #EastCoastKin #green #spring #abstract #artphotography

Tall grass stems with delicate seed heads, rendered almost entirely soft through shallow depth of field, creating a dreamy, painterly wash of deep greens with warm amber and gold glowing through from behind. No single element is sharply focused — the image reads more as an impressionistic mood than a botanical study, evoking the feel of a warm, still evening in a meadow.
