michael is saint-petersburg will forever hold a special place in my heart from now on ❤️‍🩹 this is absolutely insane but i love it and it made me homesick

Michael Palin on a boat in Saint Petersburg (then - Leningrad) in 1991 (Pole to Pole, 1992)

Michael Palin visits Fyodor Dostoevsky grave in Saint Petersburg

Michael Palin on the top of St. Isaac cathedral in Saint Petersburg

Michael Palin fires the midday canon in Saint Petersburg. This is a longtime tradition of the city: every day a canon strikes at 12:00 from the Fortress of St. Peter and St. Paul

this is a happy face of a man who managed to buy vodka in leningrad in 1991 (you literally needed a special coupon to do this)

Michael Palin visiting Estonia and Russia in summer 1991 is so iconic. like he really witnessed the major historical event without even knowing that
