Excellent article by @jessicaglenza.bsky.social at @us.theguardian.com that highlights how the Trump-Bhattacharya NIH grant terminations undermine trust built in communities and waste public resources by terminating critical, rigorous cutting edge science. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

I use a period tracking app even though I don’t have a uterus I had a hysterectomy 2 years ago, but I kept my ovaries. To track whether I’m ovulating and length of my cycles, I track basal body temperature Cycles are shorter than when I was young. But my ovaries are still kicking #Perimenopause

I like to joke that I have no practical skills for the apocalypse, but basic data analysis skills actually are powerful locally when things are going sideways in our communities. This video from the American Statistical Society (ASA) gives a great example

The things that are happening in NC are crazy… Our R legislature is so busy bullying and “owning” non-profits they don’t like … that they’ll ban funding to help poor people navigate the courts … even though it’s not even state money AND it hurts a lot of people in their own districts.

Has anyone looked into what they are doing with the appropriated NIH money they are refusing to use to fund peer-reviewed science? It seems $1.5b in NSF funds are being diverting to give to tech buddies. I imagine something similar planned for NIH funds?

I’m a quantitative research scientist so “most people are female” sounds like a very sound statement of numerical fact to me. 😅 So maybe this is a difference in how a quantitative scientist (many years in school getting corrected on stats) uses words vs the intuition that more normal people have? 😁

Ok, I’m hooked now into this conversation! 😁 So, which pile (49 or 51) would you say has the most Pennie’s? Which pile (49 or 51) would you say has most of the Pennies? I love thinking about language so this nuance is really fascinating to me.

What is happening here as well, is that many career scientists at e.g., NIAID are transitioned to Schedule P/C, meaning that they can be terminated at will. The purge across our scientific and public health institutions continues, as congress is completely asleep at the steering wheel.

I don’t care what anyone says… I love generational labels 😁 It’s a good way to make sense of the world Like how #Millennials are sicker w chronic disease at relatively young ages… Growing up during the deregulation & gaping inequality that started in 1980s will do that pca.st/episode/85d6...
