We have a new Bishop! We are delighted that Downing Street has announced this morning that the Rt Rev Dr Toby Howarth has been approved by the King as the nomination to be the second Bishop of Leeds. Bishop Toby has been Area Bishop of Bradford since 2014 and Acting Bishop of Leeds since last year.

She is holding Jimmy, a medium sized black dog with a grey muzzle (he notes: "distinguished, not elderly"). He is also wearing a collar.

The night of Maundy Thursday. On an altar stands a ciborium, veiled in white, surrounded by flowers. Behind the altar is a cross veiled with a purple cloth. 9 candles surround the altar. A further candle burns above an aumbry with a brass door set into the wall.

A prayer for the installation of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Almighty God,
you call your Church in every age
to proclaim the gospel of Christ:
look with mercy upon your servant Sarah,
and grant that, as deacon,
she may care for those in need,
as priest, sustain us with the ministry
of word and sacrament,
and as bishop, guard the faith
and build up the body of Christ in holiness.
Give her wisdom and kindness
that as archbishop, she may promote unity,
seek truth, and lead us in the way
of righteousness and peace;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Today is the Feast of the Annunciation, which marks the visit of the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary, announcing that she was to become the mother of Jesus. The Feast falls exactly nine months before Christmas Day. 📍 St Peter's Church, March/Rev Steve Day

Putting our alleluias away for Lent today... @whitkirkchurch.org.uk
The word Alleluia cut out of colourful letters and hanging from a pillar in church.A shoe box with a label that says "Strictly no Alleluias in Lent. NOT TO BE OPENED UNTIL EASTER SUNDAY". Ryan, a very tall server in a white alb, takes down the Alleluia from the pillar while Lynne, an LLM in a blue scarf, reads the label on the shoe box. Two children, and James, another server, look on.Claire, a vicar in a green chasuble, places the Alleluia in the box, assisted by the two children. Lynne and James look on.

Our #Lent Course this year explores the Lord's Prayer, probably the first 'formal' prayer that most people learn, which we say often without stopping to think about what it really means. Each speaker will discuss a line of the prayer, with time for questions or reflections, followed Compline. ✝️

18th March: Very Rev'd Dr Philip Hobday: 'Our Father'

be with me this Christmas,
especially when I find myself alone.
Be with those whom I hold in my heart,
whether they are near or far away.
Help us all to hear the good news of the angels,

The Festival of Lessons and Carols at @whitkirkchurch.org.uk was absolutely awesome. I am a very proud and happy (and a tiny bit exhausted) vicar.
A church seen from above the sanctuary, looking west. In the foreground, Lynne, a lay minister, sits on the left wearing a blue scarf. On the right sits Claire, the vicar, wearing a red and gold cope. At the rear is the choir, robed in red, singing. Giles plays the organ from an organ loft high above the choir's heads. The church is packed.
