Nowhere have I said any of these things are good. But again outcome is not the only determining factor. If you had to choose to vote between a murderer who killed 10 people or a murderer who killed 100 many people would opt to not vote for any murderer.

The problem is that you think that all morality is based on outcome. Your morality is completely utilitarian. Morality can be based on principles or duties. Supporting genocide is a pretty low bar to clear and I don't blame anyone for not voting for anyone who supported it regardless of outcome.

Why do people argue like 5 year olds over this? Whether it's Biden or Trump they're both scumbags. It's not one or the other. People really suffer from the tyranny of low expectations.

This is learned helplessness. They are not ambivalent, they feel impotent. People need to organise. I cannot emphasise this strongly enough. Numbers are what matter. Not individual or transient acts of defiance. The right is very well organised. That's the difference.

I understand general elections just fine. You just don't understand how to follow a point. In your rush to assert Piker's influence is not as toxic as you'd (weirdly) like it to be you went off talking about general elections that haven't happened yet. It's a weird hill to die on.

Again, you're the only person here bringing up general elections. You seem to have discovered that primaries don't involve the whole electorate and you're dancing around with that banal observation like it was revealed to you by God herself. As I said, very weird.

“Most eligible voters didn’t vote for him” describes virtually every primary winner in America. You’ve taken an utterly banal fact about turnout and somehow convinced yourself it’s an argument. You're very weird.

You’ve spent three posts furiously disproving a claim I never made. I said Piker’s endorsement didn’t stop El-Sayed winning his primary. It clearly didn’t. Now you’re yelling about November because apparently moving the goalposts is easier than reading.

whistletom.bsky.social @whistletom.bsky.social · 21/08/2026
Calling someone “mathematically challenged” while confusing turnout with the result of an election is quite a flex. El-Sayed got more votes. He won. WTF is the matter with you?

Al Sayed won his primary AFTER being very publicly endorsed by Piker! Are you okay?

He literally is mainly a twitch streamer. That's what he does. The issue here is the ridiculous comparison between him and the absolute lunatic that is Laura Loomer.

whistletom.bsky.social @whistletom.bsky.social · 13/08/2026
Nobody said Piker is a nobody. The point is that having a large audience isn’t the same as having direct access to presidential power. You can take his rhetoric seriously without pretending he and Loomer occupy remotely equivalent positions. Loomer has directly influenced personnel, for example.

whistletom.bsky.social @whistletom.bsky.social · 13/08/2026
This is peak enlightened centrism. Piker is a Twitch streamer who has said edgy things in the past but advocates for universal healthcare etc. Loomer has the ear of the president and is absolutely fucking deranged.

But she lead with the disagreement aspect which itself is telling. It doesn't feel like some minor deviation from a specific policy and given that his platform is m4a, childcare and opposing financing foreign wars I'm at a loss as to what specifically the issue is here

Supporting a genocidal regime isn't the same as being nitpicky about someone who filed their tax returns late. This is about murdering families. Starving people to death. Shooting children looking for food. This is the lowest fucking moral bar someone can conceivably cross.

Tuchel definitely compounded the problem but saying it had nothing to do with the relentless pressure that Argentina were putting on England and Messi’s contribution in particular is unfair. He’s been doing this for over 20 years and few have been able to deal with it.

GTFOH with your "purists" bullshit. Wanting someone who doesn't take bribe money from genocidal maniacs isn't some nuanced character flaw. It's a disqualifying position. Gaza is the moral test of our time. You can be as performatively slick as you like but if you fail the Gaza test you're out.

You cannot score without the service. And Messi consistently provided that. The goals were well taken but the second one was basically handed on a platter.

England couldn't move the ball out of their half. Even Kane said so. This is before the substitutions. Argentina had them absolutely pinned back.

There is a reason that Rodri one the Balon D'Or two years ago. In this kind of form he dictates the game. France playing 4 up front with practically no midfield against one of the greatest midfields in the world was never going to work. There's not much your attack can do if there is no service.

If that foul had stood then Paredes would have gotten a yellow for doing nothing. It was a braindead thing to do by Embolo. Already carrying a yellow for a challenge on Paredes He oversold the dive which lead to the review. The ref had no choice but to rescind the yellow and give it to Embolo.

He's not figuring it out. He made a statement and that should be considered on its own merits, not who said it. And compared to your "that's what the party is there for" Platner's statement about the people choosing has far more merit.

I remember Biden said he'd be a one term president. He then decided to run again, had a total melt down during the debate and could barely string a sentence together. He eventually peaced out at the 11th hour, anointed Kamala as the new candidate, bypassing the primaries and then Trump won.

She has not "refuted" it. She is very much from the lineage of fascism. She's anti gay marriage, anti gay parenting, anti abortion, anti immigration etc. She also echoes Trump's anti institutional illiberal rhetoric. Judges and the media etc. She's best described as post fascist, hard right.

Making other living beings suffer and killing them because they're tasty. "Common sense".

How about....no. Eating meat is not just a "choice of food" argument. Eating meat involves the suffering and killing of another sentient being. Every argument I've ever had about eating meat is people trying to avoid the realities of eating meat. You're not going to shut me up.
150 0
whistletom.bsky.social @whistletom.bsky.social · 09/05/2026
And my point about meat is that meat is the most expensive food source so economic arguments about meat don't cut it.

whistletom.bsky.social @whistletom.bsky.social · 09/05/2026
That's too vague a statement and very much context dependent. There's a difference between killing an animal because you absolutely need to eat it to survive and killing an animal because it tastes nice. The latter is the majority of meat eating in the US.

whistletom.bsky.social @whistletom.bsky.social · 08/05/2026
Sorry what? Meat is the single most inefficient use of resources. Meat production requires tons of feed which is used by their growth and metabolism, meat it requires more land, energy, water and labor, meat spoils quickly so transport is more demanding, regulatory demands are more stringent

It's an uncomfortable truth that there is untold suffering so people get to eat burgers and hot dogs. Also I think that if people feel very strongly about suffering then they have every right to speak out about it. If it makes you feel uncomfortable then at some level you know she's right.

I think that killing an animal for what is essentially a food preference is hard to reconcile with loving animals. It's a different case where there are no alternatives but in our societies where there are all kinds of alternatives it's hard to defend.

whistletom.bsky.social @whistletom.bsky.social · 08/05/2026
She's not wrong though. There's a massive moral disconnect between people who say the love animals and then support the killing of said animals for something that is largely down to personal taste.

Too many but orders of magnitude less than Israel have killed. What I can't reconcile here is if you are condemning the killing of women and children by Hamas on October 7th how can you not condemn the Israelis killing of women and children subsequently. Are Israeli children worth more?

Must send them a cookie. Anything to say about the fact that they've massacred 20,000 children in gaza? Call me fussy but that seems to be kind of an important fact to omit when you're pushing Israel's humanitarian bona fides.

Maybe you should check reality. Things are getting progressively worse. The fact that Trump still has any kind of appeal or legitimacy outside of absolute lunatics is crazy. The Democratic leadership has absolutely dropped the ball with the milquetoast nonsense they've been serving up.

He’s not the whole story on why Dems lose but holy shit if he isn’t a perfect encapsulation of the overarching reasons they lose. Smug, patronising, condescending, out of touch, scripted, dull, evasive, arrogant and insufferable.

There is no “proof” of the kind of level of election interference it would take to swing an election. Zero. Zilch. Nada. There is however, ample proof of a metric ton of assholes voting for the current clown show. THREE TIMES.

I can’t help that your conspiracy addled brain cannot accept a fundamental truth about the USA. Sure there are millions of good people, probably the majority but there is also a massive contingent of bigots and morons who consistently vote for the likes of Trump.
100 0
whistletom.bsky.social @whistletom.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
But you keep ignoring the most obvious part which is that a massive contingent of the country voted for Trump three times. No vote rigging needed. Just a country with a large portion of absolute morons and racists voting for a racist moron.

To be fair it wasn't anything because there is no approval rating during the election. (For Trump at least) There is a favorability rating and Trump's was about 45-48%. Harris' was about 38%-42% (approval since she was VP)
