Balvenie mellow dried fruit & very enjoyable. The Arran is crisp & clean, citrus & surprisingly malty. The Borders is lots of apples & poached pears, a little floral tonight, apricot jam on the finish. Balvenie thin with a short finish, Arran is faultless but tonight I prefer the Borders. #whisky

Testing 4 newbies side by side. The Borders was my champion today by quite some distance. I have to concede that the fantastic pricing was probably a subconscious factor. That said it just tastes accomplished, there is no substitute for aging. I'm seriously excited about this distillery! #whisky

Picked these up in Louisville last year and forgot about them! The 117 is spicy despite the lower ABV, also an astringency on the finish which I don’t like. 1920 is a solid addition to anyone’s evening, lots of lovely caramel coated cherries, vanilla, baking spices and dark chocolate. #bourbon

Found these in a box today so I'm tucking in. The 99&1 is a good dram, especially at the money. Dark fruit and oily soot. The hand fill is a lovely study in their spirit. Charred lemons, salmon on a BBQ and now a little sweet olive oil. #whisky

Time for some Octomore in the sunshine. All share vanilla & caramel. 14.1 is fresh, fruity & effervescent, charred lemons. 15.1 is much smokier & darker, burnt things rather than charred. 16.1 comes back to the light, burnt pineapple from a pizza, baked apples in foil on a BBQ. #whisky

Its been an afternoon in the pub so something with a bit of oomph is required. Mr Walker is the master of the cask and he's done some very good work with this one. A properly sweet, easy drinking but exceptionally tasty Speyside. #whisky

Very biased opinion here due to familial ties. That 2022-003 is one of my favourite whiskies. It's crazy to me that you can produce that and not sell it in every shop! Dalwhinnie is such an approachable whisky at any ABV and these are all honey, limes, ginger & easy drinking. No sharp edges.

Getting waxed tonight. The 5yo is a little raw but the waxy roots are there. The 20 and the Brora are the stars. The smoke on the Brora really gives it depth. #whisky

I've never had either of these on my shelf before, the value proposition wasn't quite right. However, at auction even after commission, insurance, carriage, commission on the insurance, insurance on the commission etc etc I still only paid £60 for the pair.
