if your club business is running at 500k loss every year, you were likely fine no matter what -- though new tv deal + expansion rev share might bring you functionally to 150k loss. but 500k loss and 150k loss are negligible for rich owners. if you're losing 3-4 million a year? what's 350k doing?

guys. The reality of the lower leagues, and y’all all know this, is that you can set a sanctioning deadline 2 years in the future and you still are gonna have no idea who is in business 6 months from now. There’s some leeway built in because the numbers need it but also because it makes sense.

decline! who cares! Some of these teams have 200 people showing up on a given night. an away day in the open cup could be the only chance that some of these teams break even for a match day EVER.

hate is good in sports. hate brings passion brings feelings brings stories and that sells tickets. worst part about being in next pro is that i don’t hate anyone yet. i miss our one true rival, the michigan stars.

For the past month, Chattanooga Football Club's former star player and current coach has watched his two homes merge into a beautiful composite. Juan Hernandez said that Chattanooga reminds him of the Spanish soccer culture he grew up in -- one that values the team much more than the individual.

7-cont) Berchimas is a HIGHLY regarded USYNT player and really should be getting time with Charlotte. he also might be getting sold to Bayern friggin Munich. 8) the point? when those players ball out (especially all at the same time), just tip your cap and move onto the next.
000
Whiskey & Modelo @whiskandmo.bsky.social · 02/03/2026
7) Crown might be extremely fun this year. Charlotte is on a 3 DP and 3U22 model with currently no flexibility to add. Aloko is incredible. Allegedly a $4M transfer, parked at Crown for now. Subotic & Uchegbu are allegedly about $2.5M between them.

Whiskey & Modelo @whiskandmo.bsky.social · 02/03/2026
5) there are days in this league where you can do a lot of things right and even well and you’re still gonna get beat. Just the nature of the beast. 6) up 1-0 with a big chance to make it 2 and couldn’t finish. game might look different if we score. happens. margins are small.
100
Whiskey & Modelo @whiskandmo.bsky.social · 02/03/2026
3) we’re obviously much more athletic than either of our previous two years in this league. 4) I liked what Crown created more than I liked what we created, but we kind of created a lot compared to our previous averages.
100
Whiskey & Modelo @whiskandmo.bsky.social · 02/03/2026
Gonna do some light analysis this AM, might do it consistently until we can record again. 1) getting beat 4-1 sucks, don’t recommend. 2) getting an early goal from a defensive takeaway is not brand new (see: Ibarra vs Crown last year), but its gonna be a key part for us in ‘26

The USL is expanding at a breakneck pace — and expansion fees stay at privately owned USL HQ. USL teams are folding at a breakneck pace. There's an incentive problem here. An essential piece on the USL + lower-division U.S. soccer from @usltactics.com.

doesn’t this essentially come down to whether or not the extra million in GAM from the 2+4 model makes up for actually doing the buy down here + any buy downs necessary to stay under the cap considering his DP charge is considerably less than it would be if not a DP?

because every dollar that goes back to the clubs from Tampa is a dollar not going to the next yacht. Ten league one clubs failing just opens up ten more expansion opportunities at a higher price
030
Whiskey & Modelo @whiskandmo.bsky.social · 24/02/2026
USL does not feel the pain when a club fails. they already took the expansion cash, they already take the tv dollars. it’s why they’ll sell the league off when the expansion money runs dry and leave the clubs to deal with the fallout/territory rights issues. not their problem on their second yacht

they are taking *much* longer in the lower divisions. we’re waiting way beyond last year’s timeline this offseason, plus read an article from Fort Wayne who say they’ve been waiting since late November for a few.

the key's in USLP. they're going to sell d1 expansion slots for dimes compared to MLS & call it a bargain to unsuspecting investors, while getting prepped to pull the ripcord and sell out when the expansion fee income dries up. what's after for clubs? pray there's no one else with territory rights.

also.. this is the USL! Pittsburgh* will probably put 20 guys on 2000 a month plus housing, hold 42% possession, and still manage to finish ahead in the table. *or whoever does the 2026 version of Lilley-ball

the actual USL nerds will have a better idea once we get going, but I would pay close attention to the avg age of the playing XI and whether they seem to stay at peak or post peak for the majority of the season. if this group stops being able to run...

the other side of this is that Lexington have basically guaranteed themselves to be the main character in USL this year given the salaries + transfer fees producing a spectacularly high squad cost. win anything? "you bought it" fail to win the shield with most expensive roster ever.... oof.

one of the things i really like about Taylor’s game is how he’s evolved it from when he first broke onto the scene. from 8 goals and 2 assists in 2022 in all comps to 4 goals and 8 assists in 2024, he’s really rounded out well. I can already see a couple Tolie —> Gray big switches into space…

Gray is a really solid attacking piece, flexible enough to hold down either wing spot and stellar as a creator without sacrificing his defensive effort. Yet another nice add for this Tormenta team.

I meant immediately as in when the CBA first came out. I wonder what's different/same in the standard Next Pro agreement -- I know our medicals got way more intense than before.

there’s no chance in hell they come in as a next pro independent. becoming Rapids 2 wouldn’t be insane, though i don’t trust their former ownership to even have a stadium home past their next court date.

his announcement in Feb 2023 said it was a two year deal + one year option. so it's kinda semantics whether it was agreed upon before the contract ended or not, since Tormenta still held the option. just depends what was actually in there.
010
Whiskey & Modelo @whiskandmo.bsky.social · 10/12/2024
no insight into the particulars here, but it's possible that Tormenta picked up his option (idk if he had one) but the contract had a clause to allow him to leave if a team from another league came in for him by X date (probably 11/30). I've seen this happen before at this level.
