My trainee today was incredibly invested in something (he gets his nose stuck on all kinds of things). Imagine my surprise when I checked and it was the most toxic newt in the world. Super cute, moved it off the trail and washed my hands before deep diving on tetrodotoxin out of paranoia.

They're not fungus, but they are super neat. Ran across these ghost pipes on my morning walk to work.

AI 'art' is bad and I am not fond, but for some reason AI Political Cartoons hit a different level. Probably because they're so much more common on here, and they always feel so much more performative than if someone just posted what they wanted to say.

Some of the locals. Unfortunately the slug here is an invasive species that causes some agricultural damage. I didn't clean her up at the time because I didn't even think about it.

Just completed a big move, and scouting the local area I can confirm snails and mushrooms.

I think the liberal thing I'm most sick of is constantly calling everyone else some variation of 'unintelligent'. Like lackluster education is an innate moral meter and not a societal failing. Most of all I think it just ingrains anti-intellectualism and distrust of 'elitist' science.

We will soon be launching our Alt Junior Ranger program, which will cost $1 to join. While we initially wanted to make it free, our past experience with free seed packs and cleanup kits showed that groups opposed to our movement signed up simply to waste resources. 1/3

Elon Musk, once hailed as a “climate hero” for building his fortune on clean technology, has found an unlikely ally in his efforts: Big Coal. Joe Craft, billionaire CEO of the coal mining giant Alliance Resource Partners, has emerged as one of the top donors to Musk’s America PAC.

It's always "We should reduce benefits to Veterans and the elderly and the poor" and "We should privatize the postal service and the National Parks" never "We should scale back corporate subsidies" or "Maybe the Progressive Tax was needed." God forbid you mention budget bloat in the military.

This is gonna be a little messy but the last few days have had me thinking about some things. And that is: that CEO was evil. But he wasn't THE evil. THE evil is something that stepped over his body, it's a thing out of space and time that will just replace its CEO like any other part of itself.

An older image from 2023 today. I visited friends and family in Scotland, and having not been before was enamored with the life there. The Highlands and Islands give my beloved Pacific Northwest a run for its money.

I haven't had much opportunity to get out and take photos lately, but here's another from early fall. I like mushrooms.

Another picture from the local park, although this one's a bit older. I distinctly remember being sat at a bench when this handsome pileated woodpecker began making a racket behind me.

I'll be moving home with my tail between my legs soon, so I thought I'd post my last summer Photo of my favorite tree at a local park.
A photo taken in a small wilderness park in the pacific northwest of a fur tree growing atop the stump of a long dead pine, the ground around it choked with ferns.
