My work is all digital now. I used to draw on paper then color using overlays on Phototshop. Now I draw using Sketchbook on my tablet, then export the individual layers as pngs to my laptop where I use an old Photoshop program to add gradients, effects and bring the pieces together.

Thanks. I've been building up to him for a while and really wanted to get a good idea of him down.

The demonic form of #BlackManta, the original #CreatureKing, the #CovenOfThule, and #Risi.
Neron the demon gave a bunch of villains powers in exchange for their souls. Black Manta was one of the villains who took the deal, becoming a demonic manta-man for a time. I’m not drawing many altered eras of these characters but I included this one since it’s a fun idea.

My take on Black Manta is that he is a “blade honed in hatred”. No matter the origin, he’s dedicated his life to taking down Aquaman, so I imagine him as a slow boiling rage that bursts into calculated acts of cruelty. He has no limit to what he will do and who he will use to build himself up and hurt those he’s latched onto as enemies. This makes him a lightning rod for those who feel misused by the world and he attracts allies who often project their own ideals onto him. Mistakenly so, as Manta is only out for himself and will both use and discard those who give him the chance without hesitation or consideration. The original Creature King had nothing to do with the second, but had some inspiration on his story. A scuba diver who tricked Aquaman and Aqualad (Garth) to help him get a sunken treasure with a potion that transformed him into this creature. He tried to take over the sea but was defeated.Atlantean sorcerers who used a civil war in the city of Thule to take over. When Atlan tried to end the war they escaped by moving Thule into a new dimension, taking air-breathing Atlanteans in the city as slaves. As the spell separating them faded they plot to take over the main universe, using a living toxic bile the other dimension is covered with to corrupt everything int their path. Aquaman had been ousted but he, the JLA, the Drift and Mera to push them back.

Other dimensional Atlanteans who threaten to main universe are not that uncommon but the Cult of Thule could be a fun set of villains to pull out of a magic threat from time to time.Lorena Marquez’s friend from Sub Diego who likes to tease her about her crush on Koryak.

#GarnDaanuth, the #IcebergHead, #Nereus, #Pilot.
Arion’s evil twin raised by their mother. A Lord of Chaos who fought Arion for rulership of Atlantis without knowing their connection. His skin colour was drained when Arion defeats him and Majistra, but Garn is immortal and becomes a might Atlantean sorcerer who sets Atlantis up for their constant feuds between the royal family. Arion scarred his face with his magic. He’d eventually be fused with the Darkworld.

As much as I like the idea of Majistra being the true identity of the Abyssal Dark, Garn is also a great candidate.A living iceberg who wants to freeze the world, starting with the seas, and therefore Atlantis. He is strong enough to shrug off Aquaman and cause a new ice age.

I’m stretching here because this guy is from a Hostess Cupcake ad. They beat him by giving him some cupcakes which chill him out. Apparently he was just hungry. I included him because I’ve noticed a lack of opposing elements in Aquaman’s villains. He tends more towards pirates or warriors who try to usurp his throne rather than elemental or thematically opposing threats. Also, this guy just looks funny.Speaking of usurpers, we have the king of Xebel and Mera’s former betrothed, Nereus. Another Xebellian who wants to marry Mera, but I believe he ends up with Siren. From the Ninth Tride and moved to the City of Dagon because Ocean Master promised all outcasts would have a place there. He was the 2nd in command of Ocean Master’s army. Becoming close friends with Dolphin and Learnaea he was convinced Ocean Master was wrong and he becomes a member of the Atlantean Council.

The #Weaver, the #MalignantAmoeba, the #OctopusMan, and #ArkTheSeaLion.
An Atlantean god of Madness and both an Agent and Lord of Chaos from Darkworld. Responsible for weaving magic from Darkworld onto Earth as his colourful threads he is a trickster and artist. I’d love to see his iconography appear more in dark Atlantean magics since he serves a similar role to a folkloric devil. His collared threads are an excellent visual cue and being both a trickster and chaos god makes for a character which could appear in many different ways throughout Atlantean history.A giant, all-consuming amoeba which seems to be able to survive anything except the radiation from an atomic bomb test site. It grows as it absorbs the life around it.

As far as I know, this thing only appeared once but it really should come back as a complication in other characters plans. As a mindless entity that exists only to consume it could easily be a help or inference to Aquaman. I could see Black Manta keeping it sedated in a tube ready to drop it into the middle of Atlantis, or King Fish experimenting on it to build up some toxins. It’s a unique life-form that could easily fill any unknowable monster role needed.Roland Peters build that funny hat to copy Aquaman’s powers but got an extra one in the ability to possess animals. He was even able to disperse Aquaman’s mind among different sea-creatures. He even hurts Aquaman with a punch to the face (I assume because he’s just that fit…).

He’s got a similar feel to the Thinker, where he could easily become a top Rogue without much alteration to his base idea. He just needs (say it with me now) more appearances. An animal sidekick from the Golden Age. He’s got a child named Blackie.

#Aquaman week 13. #Arion, #Krakor, #RoyPinto the #ElectricMan, #Lammia.
A Lord of Order and the most powerful sorcerer/king in Atlantean history. He led Atlantis through its most peaceful age. As a result of facing his mother and twin brother he was trapped in the Darkworld for 500,000 years. He was a character separate from Aquaman lore and their continuity is sometimes separated, but the connections are too good for me to leave out of this project. He could easily be considered a template for Atlantean hero/kings.The giant sea-creature with an acidic touch who Toxxin used to build his cult. Krakor is a seemingly mindless beast consuming whatever comes in its range, but Toxxin harnessed it as a protector of his people.

I could easily see this creature come back as an opposite to Topo. It’s touch and many tentacles would make it a roaming threat that dissolves anything in its wake. It could also grow over the time it’s been away and now tower as high and Topo.I can’t believe we’ve gotten this far in before running into an electric villain. An early bad guy who escaped prison and became an aquarium owner to keep a low profile. Constantly handling the electric eels has turned him into a “human electric-eel” (really). His body could absorb and redirect electricity, so he wore a lightning rod on his head and used his power as a shield to commit crimes untouched.

Guy has an early Marvel feel to him and I feel he could have potential in the modern age with some tweaks. Add some experimentation to his time in prison to explain the eel powers, give him a costume, and a stable name. Then we have a solid electric villain.Dowager Matriarch of Xebel and Mera’s grandmother who no longer plays an active role in ruling Xebel but still keeps up with what is going on. She trains the Royal Combat Beasts.

Apparently Xebel doesn’t have the same reverence for it’s women leaders as Atlantis since she doesn’t join any parallel to the Widowhood of Atlantis.

Aquaman week 12. Delilah Inaego.
Jackson Hyde’s older half-sister with hydrokinetic powers and a battle-suit. A member of the Xebelian Liberation Front who felt bitter about her mother leaving and was taught to see people who left their city as weak. After her dad died she was raised by Meeka (whop was responsible for many of the killings Lucia was blamed for). She tried to convince Jackson to come to Xebel which led to her learning the truth bout her mother and she leaves herself to join the Aqua-Family.

Aquaman week 12 part 4. Shark Norton, Lenu, Sirene, and Clownfish.
This dude just looks like a shark. He ran a gang who wrote bags with shark faces drawn on them. He teams up with a land-based Green Arrow villain, Horace Kates, and swap heroes (even though I don’t think Norton was in any issues before this).

I believe that every hero needs a regular guy in their gallery. Some normal crook who, for some reason or another, just won’t stay down. Norton could easily be brought back as a land-dwelling regular crime boss who slinks away just in time and has been fighting Aquaman since his earliest days.Atlanna’s perceptive advisor who helps bridge the gap between her and Aquaman.Mera’s rival for Aquaman’s love. She’s a shape-shifting, amphibious, hydrokinetic (of course) alien whose brother (Rovere) was involved in a gang and the two tries to escape. Rovere captured and replaced Aquaman to escape but mere confronted them, thinking she’d been dumped. Sirene actually defeats Mera, who follows them and witnesses Rovere change back. They all team up on the gang, but Sirene had truly fallen for Aquaman. After some complications the aliens leave but Sirene kisses Aquaman before she goes.

BRING HER BACK! The drama would be so funny.Dr.Sydney Allard ran a medical practice but was found out for killing his elderly patients but never had his trial. When Sub Diego sank he was one of the survivors who adapted. Black Manta took over the city and had him take blood samples from the residents, including Arthur Joseph Curry. he stole a vial of Joker Toxin when the heroes broke free and fell exposing himself. Now completely insane, he killed a family, coloured himself in blue and yellow underwater marker, and decides to explain the “truth” to others. Imagine the Joker with a PHD and gene-splicing tech.

Aquaman week 12 part 2. Krusivax, Sea Bishop, Lagoon Man, Letifos.
Krusivax is the arrogant, illegitimate son of Kordax and a human woman, who fought Arthur Joseph Curry Jr (Aquaman 2). He is the head of Tri-Dent. As far as I know he only appears in the Sword of Atlantis storyline where he and Vandal Savage try to sink a bunch of the Earth and take over by making the people water-breathers (Gamemnae side-eye). He seemingly dies when his plane auto-destructs, but when has that ever stopped a villain from coming back?

I could see him working with or against Krush, maybe taking over the Church of the Deep and playing on those considered outcasts to build himself up.The head of the Church of the Deep. The last member of the Landlubbers is Lagoon Boy. An Atlantean who tends to jump from teen team to teen team. He has Mera’s water-bending, Aquaman’s fish-talk, quills, enhanced physicality, and can puff up like a puffer-fish.

I used his “Lagoon Man” design because I feel he should have grown a bit by this point. The Sher’Hedeen are shark-like off-shots of the Tritonians who live in the Indian Ocean. They had split off to explore dark magics (Atlanteans believing they could raise the dead).

Letifos saved Garth when he was still Aqualad and he was fixated on her because she looked like Tula, who had died. Her people thought he was a spy and tried to feed him to a pool of mystic water, but he was saved. She is a compassionate person who remorse over Garth when she thought he had been killed, and would later help him in his battle with Slizzath. She remained his friend and even helped him in his relationship with Dolphin.

Aquaman week 12. The #Pardoner, #AlonzoMalrey, #MotherSkorpa, and #ReveredMotherCetea.
A devotee of the Church of the Deep who has a decent look. He worked under the Sea Bishop and trained Issitoq (a mysterious character who may have been Aquaman’s son Koryak transformed and without his memory).

Just like Krush’s gang, I feel that the CotD could help flesh out Atlantis as a civilization, just on the religious side. They could easily stoke the flames of rebellion and influence vulnerable Atlanteans against Aquaman while keeping their hands seemingly clean.A Sub Diego cop who asked Anton Geist to turn him into a monster so that he could continue his work after the city sunk. Aquaman didn’t like what he was doing at first, but Alonzo took his advice to set up and police force properly and he did, becoming its chief.Despite fighting Arthur Joseph Curry Jr (the former 2nd Aquaman) I feel that Skorpa and her employer Krusivax would be decent characters to keep around. We don’t learn much bout her since she was just one of Krusivax’s thugs, but she could fill out Krush’s gang (or even be a spy for Krusivax as he builds to a big comeback). The leader of the Widowhood of Atlantis, it’s most sacred organization made of women who lost their husbands to war. They decide if a potential queen is worthy, mold them if they are not, override a marriage they disagree with, and safeguard tradition. We’ve seen a lot fo the bad about Atlantean politics, but here we see their more understanding side in giving those most effected by poor leadership the power to decide who leads.

From what I’ve read, she does not get along with Vulko.

Aquaman week 12. #CorumRath, the #HyBrasilianSeer, #Weisbogg, and #Gamemnae.
A Ninth Tide Hadalin (masonries who build up the Atlantis' foundation) he grew to hate land dwelling humans after hearing his kingdom had once been above the ocean and held power over the other nations. When his abusive dad died he was left alone, coming to hate his fellow Atlantean who had been changed by the sea. He met Kadaver and they made a pact to raise Atlantis once again. Gathering like-minded members of the Tride he formed a traditionalist terror cell called the Deluge and would eventually be captured by Aquaman.

He usurped Aquaman as king for a bit after the council of advisors freed him, since they thought Aquaman was too lenient to the surface. He sealed Atlantis in the magic Crown of Thorns and tried to wipe the mutated lower Tride citizens out. As his plans fell apart he looked to the Abyssal Dark for power which transformed him and made him a puppet. The Hy-Brasilians have a “seer” who can peer into others minds using a power I don’t think was ever explained. I don’t know if there was only one seer or if they are a sect within the Hy-Brasilian hierarchy. I figured I’d include one in this project since their forehead eye is a cool look, they seem to be larger than average and, if expanded upon they could be a cool part of this lost Atlantean City’s culture. An Atlantean scientist who was a spy for Black Manta. He designed the mechanical version of Bugala and a robot of Aquaman whom the king commissioned to take care of his political work (I wonder where he got that idea, Clark). He was found out and captured but never revealed he was working for Manta.

The loyalty on this guy is the main reason I included him. Bringing him back would be a good way to explore the way someone like Manta could install loyalty in those who follow him. He’s a good counter to Cal Durham and would be a great way to explore both characters. We also haven’t run into many tinkerer villains so far. One whose main thing is inventing incredible gadgets. The Scavenger maybe.3K years ago she was banished to the surface due to her hair and, seeking vengeance, learned magic feeling it was her destiny to conquer the world. She raised Atlantis from the sea and made the people dependant on her to breath. Tempest had sent the current day Atlantis back in time (whole other story) and she turns Aquaman into a water spirit to trap him so she could enslave her future people. She creates the League of Ancients, and a “prophecy” she made Rama Khan see, to kill the JLA. Successful, she used Atlantis’ power to absorb the LoA’s souls/powers. She let Manitou Raven escape since she didn’t see him as a threat. He got the JLA’s souls and trapped her. Freed in the present, she fought the reserve JLA, the main JLA (she’d been forced to resurrect) and old Manitou Raven. She threw ALL EARTH’S WATER off planet and was defeated when her link with Atlantis broke and her stolen powers burned her.

#AyekaMasakiJurai from #TenchiMuyo. The whole #TenchiSeries is one of my favourite anime (and pretty close to the top of the list). #AnimeFanArt
Not sure how I feel about the colored lines this time. I like it in the line-art, but the final feels a bit too radioactive to me (though that might work as a kin of warning sign for how dangerous Ayeka is). I tried to blend my style with the various artists' who've worked on her over the years. I'm going to focus more on blending styles to help keep my own characters from feeling samey.I love characters like Ayeka, who hide their more selfish (or straight-up unhinged) selves under a barely-there veil of propriety. They're always a ton of fun and tend to push stories forward with their antics instead of bringing it to a full-stop.

#Chaotix had a whole 3rd season I didn't know existed. Ended up bingeing the whole thing and liked it even more this time. So here's #Chaor. Not saying I'll draw all the Tribe leaders, but a certain rival will probably show up on here in a month or 2 (if nothing goes wrong)
I tried colouring my line-art differently this time. I've done this on a few of this months Aquaman uploads but Chaor was where I first tried it. I'm going to try to integrate this sort of thing into my art more. I'm also trying to take more liberties with how I draw other people's designs. I'm stubborn, and a creature of habit, so reprogramming my brain and integrating new things can take time and practice. The line-art alone. I wanted to show it off since I’m trying to upload more process stuff.

Aquaman week 11 part 3. Atlantean god of light #Calculha, assassin from the Trench #ChTok, #GustaveTheAnimalMaster, and #Toxxin.
Majistra's husband and nemesis. He came from Darkworld and liberated Atlantis from tyranny. He raised his son Ahri'ahn and created the Mantle of the Savior to set up his destiny.

I included the Zodiac Crystals.I haven't read the comics he shows up in and I don't know how the trench would have something like an assassin, but here he is.An animal trainer who turned to crime, using his animals to help him. He tried to escape the police on a motorboat but Aquaman interferes. He escaped in the confusion but wound up on a desert island where he trained his animals for revenge. After months he lures Aquaman in and tries to kill him.

Another crazy dude with a gimmick, but I think Gustave could work well with some updates. I could see his time on the island being much longer. He could go crazy and somehow tap into the Red, giving him control over land animals similar to Aquaman's telepathy. Maybe he could even become one of the Red's avatars like Aquaman for the Blue or Poison Ivy and Swamp Thing for the Green.A small village near Atlantis was under seige by a monster named Krakor and he set himself up as their high priest. Krakkor becomes their village protector, consuming predators that get too close. Toxxin believed a prophecy in which Krakor was defeated by a hero to save his maiden. beleiving Krakor would eventually turn on them, he tries to manipulate the prophecy and puts both Aquaman and Mera in danger.

Atlantis is a divided people and there are a bunch of little outposts and sects split off from the main city. While I don't see Toxxin as all that great of a villain, the story he's a part of shows how desperate things can be for those on the outskirts.

Aquaman week 11 part 2. The Landlubbers #BlubberTheWhale, tyrant water deity #Dagon, criminal hiding in the Atlantean Court #LordRagnar, and Krush's magic muscle #Kadaver.
A hyper-intelligent sperm-whale in a mechanical suit who joins his best friend Lagoon Boy and Shiva to make the Landlubbers. He’s the son of a whale named Pakkul who is a friend of Aquaman.A crazy king from the surface who took control of an Elemental named Lernaea to overtake Atlantis in ancient times. He had hydro-kinesis and called himself the “master of the waters”. Since the Demons Three were trying to escape using magic stored in the costumes of heroes and villains they animated his costume.

In newer continuity he’s retconned to rule over the Blue and used the Tide Jewels to control all the waters across the multiverse. He also cut the Blue off from the universe to hoard it for himself using the Ocean Orb. There was a prophecy that a “Dark Tide” and New God would kill him and he believed it was about Aquaman. He has a trio of Mercenary Maids lead by former Superman love interest Lori Lemaris (who became the Queen of Tritonis at some point. Wonder how Iqula and S’Ona felt about that). He can also turn into big octo-man-monster.

This was one of the first drawings I tried my new line colouring method on. I wanted him to feel special since he’s connected to the Blue.A captain of the guard who committed crimes as the Masked Marauder. He wore a silver helmet to hide his identity and redirect his dark thoughts to Aquaman, causing the Liquidator to think he was the Marauder. The helmet causes Aquaman to become a criminal and the Royal Family went after him. Ragnar used this to seize control and cast them all as criminals. Eventually he’s found out and his helmet taken. He escapes the Liquidator by burying him under a canyon, but Aquaman catches him.

The Liquidator is the cooler of the 2 characters, but Ragnar has potential for retellings. He’s yet another Atlantean guard who tries to take out Aquaman, but he’s smart about it, biding his time and striking when he sees a true chance.

Since his old design was purple I gave him a costume similar to Ocean Master since I figured that would be the suit used for high ranking military who are also royalty. He seems like he could feasibly climb the social ranks, maybe even married into his Lordship.Corum Rath’s best friend from when they lived in the Ninth Tride, and a magician specializing in the manipulation coral. He is self taught, never attending the Silent School. He shares Rath’s ambition to take over Atlantis. He kept in touch with Rath while working as Krush’s enforcer. They would eventually contact the Abyssal Dark for its power and he would be turned into a mindless servant.

Aquaman week 11 part 1. Necrus' mechanical defender the Cruel One, actual straight-up pirate #CaptainDemo, Sub-Diego police officer #ChandraAbbot, and headmaster of Atlantis' school for magic #MagisterLoke.
Planned to save the ships/suits I’m drawing until the end, but I wanted to get this robotic WMD out since I don’t think I’ll draw anymore characters from Necrus, and I wanted to revamp how things appear in the Dimensional Rift.

When there, black and white invert and colors become saturated. everything has a red tint and sketchy style as the dimension fades in and out of existence. I want it to feel like an underwater Hell, the very water tainted with blood and magic. A desperate world barely holding together.

I’ve been thinking about an Aquaman game (VERY similar to Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom) and Necrus would be a cool replacement for the Blood Moon mechanic.

Imagine swimming through the ocean, then the water turns red, shadows inky black, and the sea life no longer bid your call. Overtaken by fear and bloodlust, they attack more fiercely in greater numbers. The Black City rises somewhere in the depths. Do you dare challenge it’s protector or swim for safety? One of the unfortunate people trying to hold Sub Diego together. Even more unfortunate that it sent her insane. She becomes a serial killer and works her own case alongside Aquaman.

I could see her coming back, either as a recurring enemy, or as a shaky ally with a clean bill of mental health. Sub Diego could use all the help it can get, but I could also see her drifting off to a less hostile environment. An actual, honest to goodness, flat-out pirate.

He has a submersible 16th century pirate ship armed to the tooth with advanced weaponry, including his Laser-Sword (a sword with a laser on it, not a light-sabre sadly) and Oxygen Pistol which creates oxygen pockets by disturbing water molecules. He uses that last one to suffocate people. He wants to, what else, take over Atlantis. Apparently can breath underwater and lives a long time.

I want him to be old friends with the Fisherman. Though, if I ever got the chance to do an animated series I’d have an episode where he and the Fisherman team up and have it end with the Fisherman losing his host body and taking Demo as his next one.He ran the Silent School, Atlantis’ school for magic and the place they store their magic items, and allied himself with Corum Rath when he tried to take over Atlantis. His magic was used to enforce Rath’s rules, and he encases Atlantis in the Crown of Thorns (an ancient artifact which casts a protective network of magic around the city). Loke believed Rath was using too much magic and fears the consequences, so he turned on him and Rath killed him.

Of course, he IS magic and that means he can always be brought back. He trains Tempest in the New 52, so he’s another under-utilized magic villain who could easily be high level.

The Silent School itself is already a cool concept. Imagine all the characters and stories that could come from there.

The 2nd last #CutieHoney #FanArt is #DrillPanther. She ended up being a more noble enemy than the usual Panther Claw agents. She wanted to challenge Honey to a fair fight and even helps her out. The kind of character (I'm guessing) later versions may expand the role of.
I wasn't big on the design until I got the colors down. Panther Claw must have been running out of costume budget by this point. The next one was a bird lady in a pink tank top. I went a bit simpler this time since I wasn't too happy with my Scorpion Panther drawing and I wanted to focus more on making Drill Panther look good.

Aquaman week 10 part 2. Queen #SOna of the Tritonians, evil Prime Minister #Hagen, The Guardian of Hy-Brasil, (an actually loyal to Arthur) Captain #ZeekilNeol.
S’Ona is the wife of King Iqula, and queen of the Tritonians. Due to their peoples fear of her blonde hair she keeps it veiled. The mark on the pendant around her neck connects her lineage to Kordax. She became queen when Aquaman and Equal helped her defeat her cousin Firtf. She is also able to communicate with sea life like Aquaman.A slave who became an Atlantean sorcerer then gained power under the rule of Gamemnae. Since Aquaman had sent Atlantis to the past, as the new Prime Minister Hagen kept Mera drugged and under magic to control her and exile Aquaman.

He is an “ultra-nationalist” who holds secret trails against his enemies and those under his power. He even made it law that all Atlanteans should float/swim at all times to make it harder on those he saw as undesirable. He ordered surface-based structures in Atlantis destroyed and began a super-solders program creating Man O’War. He even tries to mutate all undersea life into monsters to take over the world.

Aquaman needs an anti-Tempest and Hagen is a great character to fill that slot. His hatred of the surface and everything that reminds him of it is more than enough to pit him against out liquid-lord and his family of fishy friends with no room for redemption. Also he looks cool. The Hy-Brasilian king is the Guardian of their city. He perches nearby and kills any intruder he comes across. When Aquaman came to ask them for help in fighting off the Hunter/Gatherers and Anunnake they fought and when Aquaman won he was pushed into being the new king while the old killed himself. The queen says it is their way.The Atlantean military commander and an Atlantean Council member. The commander of all the military gets the title “Lord of the Armies”. And, as far as I know, he’s never betrayed Aquaman (breaking a trend here).

Without changing much from his actual design I wanted to give him a bit of a pistol shrimp feel with that big Atlantean Energy Rifle and various colors.

Aquaman week 10 part 1. The #Aqualad #JacksonHyde, the hive-minded #Omniguard, Aquaman's less loving bride the queen of Hy-Brasil, and the Tritonian heroine #Sheeva.
When I started this project I got asked a few times when I’d draw this Aqualad. Since I only have a half remembered Teen Titans issue and the Young Justice show (which changes a lot about him) I wanted to make sure I got his parents done first so I could do him right. I went with, what I believe, is a newer design since it already brought in elements from the Young Justice version and I like the dyed blonde (it makes me think he did it because he respects Aquaman and the blonde hair being considered a curse which led to Aquaman becoming a thing).

I like how he went for the older red of OG Aqualad’s costume while Lorena Marquez went for blue similar to when Garth became tempest.

Since he’s Black manta’s son, his mom is from Xebel, and he was heavily associated with eh surface heroes the Teen Titans I didn’t keep too hard to my usual design motifs. I emphasized the fins on his legs a bit but didn’t change his outfit much at all since I wanted him to easily slip between worlds and feel more like a generalized hero. The Omniguard are an alien race with a shared consciousness who try to use Tempest’s magic as a power source for their ship. They can be a single super-form or split up into at least 3 individuals with their own powers.

Tempest later helps them charge their ship and they leave on good terms, but I think leaving ti there would be a mistake.

The Aqua-Family is a powerful team. Mera alone is crazy tough, but add on Tempest and the legions of Atlantean Men-of-War, the Secret School, etc. Now imagine them going up against a hive-mind running an entire planet of supper powered being. We only encountered a few of them but who knows how many abilities the Omniguard home-world has at its disposal. imagine a story where the Aqua-Family has to fight an entire planet of what are essentially alien X-Men (or a meta-human Borg). Their toy-like aesthetic belies infinite potential for battles, while there hive-mind allows easy navigation of the conflict in their stories.Hy-Brasil is one of the Lost Cities of Atlantis and its inhabitants have mutated over the years similarly to the Trench. When they were part of the surface, their domed city was the main point of protection for the realm. As a result they have a large supply of ancient weaponry.

I haven’t read much with her, but their Queen was depicted as ruthless and cunning. She attempts to get Aquaman to become her new King threatening that if he refuses her people will tear him apart. She even tries to have him forced to kill Dolphin for accidentally firing on the city, after having looked her over.A Tritonian who becomes the trio of young aquatic characters who got to the surface to fight crime and better relations between undersea and surface dwellers, calling themselves the Landlubbers. She acts as the hands of their whale member Blubber.

I wasn’t going to include them, but a comment made me realize how much potential they have to expand the world outside of Aquaman’s reach. They are a group of young people going out of their way to better relations between their people and the surface on their own, not as an extension of Aquaman’s rule but as an extension of his ideals.

We're nearing the end of these #CutieHoney #fanart. I skipped Great Claw because I wasn't too into her design. Honey pulls out a new ability, Honey Storm, which uses her sword to make a whirlpool.

A #DrawThisInYourStyle of @ironlilyart.com's character #Titania. Ironlily makes historically inspired characters and talks about historical accuracy. #FanArt
Titania is defending an impressed Paige while arrows fly around them. I was trying to go for a kids-story-book kind of low detail castle in the background. Not sure how well that meshed with the washed-out colors.

@whillustrations.bsky.social surprised me with a fan art mock-cover featuring NRG's premier Toonman and one of his villainous enemies, Muenster Mash!! This was such an awesome gift that really made my day!

I drew #FanArt of @nrgcomics.bsky.social's animated ace #Toonman and the villain #MuensterMash. This is the second time I drew it since the first was deleted when my tablet glitched. I like this version better though.😤 #Comics #NRGComics #ComicbookFanArt
Toonman is leaning on top of Muenster Mash's shoulder and using his chin as dip for a bowl of chips. Muenster Mash is not amused with his antics.

Since both characters are living cartoons I gave them different shading from usual. MM has harsher black/blue shading to mimic 90s superhero cartoons while Toonman has solid black but only on his overalls like simpler 30s ones. I also gave Toonman a slight gradient to make him appear a bit overexposed.I included the image before I cropped it to fit the cover format.

Aquaman’s friend from Amnesty Bay #ErikaWatson and her fiancé #DwayneFradon, the #Gamesman, #SeaDaddy, and #Majistra.
Every hero comes from somewhere and having a friend character who can pull from their past is a useful tool for writers. They can humanize the heroes in ways other super-powered beings can’t. They give life to their pasts and inform their present lives. I don’t know much bout these two but I’m excited to read them when I get there.A Kraven the Hunter type, who hunts superheroes for sport using high-tech weaponry. He fought Aquaman and Animal Man once and would later attack Sub-Diego for Ocean Master, then join Lex Luthor’s Society.

Not all that much to him from what I know, but he’ a good low to mid tier enemy. Like other tech villains his powers could carry depending on his arsenal, and he has a decent gimmick with his tracking and hunter gimmick. I could see him as a regular buyer for the Scavenger’s findings or even King Fish’s poisons. I’d lay heavily into the game hunter persona and have him hunt down the many monsters of the deep for trophies.Sea Daddy is a joke villain who wanted to take over Atlantis and shot at Aquadog. Aquaman kicks his butt.

He’s a good joke villain, playing off the sometimes beefcake-ish way Aquaman can be portrayed. As far as I know, he’s only appeared once but I wouldn’t mind seeing him again. He could be one of those guys who fills a team roster or he could hang out at one of those bars for loser villains.I’ve been running a theoretical throughline connecting the Abyssal Dark to many of the disparate ideas in Aquaman’s mythology.

Atlantean deities are extra-dimensional and divine beings worshiped throughout their history, at least partially made up of Lords of Order and Chaos. The original “7 Gods” came into being when the Darkworld Entity dreamed the Darkworld into reality. As it turns out, this Entity is the progenitor of an old form of Atlantean magic, and the Darkworld is the power source for ancient Atlantean magic.

Majistra is an evil Atlantean deity of darkness, wife of the god of light Calculha. Majistra and Calculha create the Zodiac Crystals by tapping the primordial power of the Earth, but soon Majistra tries to take them to bring an age of supreme darkness. Their twin sons Ahri'ahn (Arion) and Garn Daanuth had each been brought up by one of their parents during the feud and Arion would trap her essence in the Darkworld.

My new head-canon is that the Abyssal Dark is Majistra’s reminisce essence and that the various connected threads are ways/results of her trying to regain physical form in the real world. Arion and the power of the Zodiac Crystals keeps her trapped, but she is able to seep into reality through the ancient dark magic of Atlantis which she empowered when she died. The Zodiac Crystals may have been lost to history due to a loss of interest, but what if Arion has been hiding them one in each of the Lost Cities to keep Majistra from returning in full? This would also be why he trains Tempest as the greatest mage under the sea, why he guides Aquaman’s life from behind the scenes, and everything else he does.

The #QueenTrench, gang leader and Krush’s ally #Harak, Salty the #Aquadog, and Lieutenant #JoannaStubbs the British Royal Navy to Atlantean liaison.
The Queen is the ruler of the Trench. She was killed when Aquaman caused a volcanic fissure to engulf her (but this is comics and she’s too cool to keep dead forever). An enormous monster who makes the decisions for her people and sends her “King” to oversee her bidding.

There’s all kinds of concepts that can be explored with the Trench, but what I want to see is an expansion fo their abilities. Especially the King and Queen. If you’ve seen the Alien franchise you know how much could be explored with them. With Krush’s size and build he would have a hard time running the more low-key aspects. Those sections of his business would have to be delegated (especially with my idea of making him larger over time). Harak is an enforcer who operates out of the impoverished areas of Atlantis (the Ninth Tride). He’s the front man, which gives him plenty of opportunity to take on the Aqua-Family.In the New 52 he is named Salty and his original owner was encased in a Trench feeding cocoon. Mera and Aquaman adopt him and call him Aquadog even though he can’t swim.

I added a rescue dog water vest and a scuba diving helmet based on the Canine Scuba Diving Apparatus Dwane Folsom developed for his dog Shadow and streamlined them to fit Atlantean technology. He’s got a little pouch on the back for carrying stuff. Salty is just a dog without any powers, so I’d imagine he’s more of a pet to the Aqua-Family than their other animal friends like Tusky and Porm.A Royal Navy officer chosen to serve as the Spindrift Station Embassy’s liaison. The embassy is the first of its kind on dry-land.

Human characters like Joanna are important for world-building. They make the world feel real and give the audience someone through home they can experience the effects our heroes have on people. Also the effects regular people have on heroes. With her loyalties being to the British Navy Joanna can provide a POV grounded in concerns of day to day political functions.

The unfortunate #CreatureKing and another Xebellian with a thing for Mera, #Oceanus.
A Triton Base diver who was attacked by a group of sharks, around the time of the monster Karaqan's attack, and is saved by Aquaman. Since he is comatose and on life support Dr.Edrid Orson takes him as a test subject. Not only does Orson mangle him with cells and limbs of various sea life but parts of his lost brain are replaced with pieces of Karaqan's. Creature King kills Orson before he could put a mind control chip on him and his Karaqan parts compel him to go after Aquaman.

His shapeshifting, toxicity, electrokinesis and regeneration make him a good match up for Aquaman, with a hint of tragedy. Since he can mimic the powers of aquatic life he has plenty of potential tricks.(like most Xebellians it seems) He wants to rule Xebel and take Mera as his bride. He has a weapon that removed her hard water powers and was able to take on both Aquaman and Aqualad with his own. Mera pulls a face-turn to get his weapon as he bargains an escape.

He was shortly possessed by the ancient alchemist Magistus just before Aquaman marries Mera. He tries to kidnap Aqualad for his power and Magistus kills him to cover his tracks.

He's similar in concept to Leron and Nereus. Since the other two are warriors who fight for what they want I would think of Oceanus as the brainy one. Or at least eloquent ones. He is cunning and able to talk himself out of the worst of what he gets himself into. Since it's DC I could see him coming back after death, though I can also see why a 3rd Xebel guy lusting after Mera and trying to take the throne might be a bit overkill.

The #Aquamarines #GreatWhite, #Stone, #Octo, And #Orca.
I don't have much to say about the Aquamarines individually since they are a bit of a unit, but I like the concept of the team as a whole.

They feel like an earth-based version of the Deep Six, and a somewhat weaker one as a result. There's more to stories than power levels though and these characters have potential to explore a part of Aquaman's world we haven't seen much of in this project.

As members of the US marine corps they give the more antagonistic side of the US government a face for Aquaman to interact with. They were enhanced specifically to assassinate him when the US and Atlantis were at war.

#TwinPanther’s episode was a Wacky Races style story with #CutieHoney and Histler competing for the grand prize. It had nice backgrounds. #AnimeFanArt #FanArt
I wish the show would make more use of Honey's different forms. She has a bullfighter one in this episode and it only shows up for a few seconds. This might be the best use of Junpei and Gramps so far.

IO think the issues that made me like Antman the most were the ones where he got stuck small after being injected with super rabies. I wish that section lasted longer because it really showcased how innovative he could be with so few resources.

The 48 July issue of Iron Man (I had to check my epic collection and it turns out I was remembering wrong. He just got pulled over and his fiance just thought they were going to go over a ridge). The Giant Man stuff I was reading was from the second epic collection so it spanned a bunch of eras.

I like the odd-couple thing Hank and Janet have going for them. It can be a bit awkward because of the occasional of-the-time-isms but I like the intended "fun and goofy" vibe the old comics had. I don't think the break-up is the actual origin, but it's the first time I remember someone commenting

Tusky is comedy relief (so I guess more on the chaos side). He hangs out with Aquaman to avoid his wife, and while he can take out an opponent with his sheer weight he doesn't typically pull it off on purpose. He's from the 1967 Aquaman animated series. (sorry for the late reply.)

#Aphroditemon's #DesignSheet, a card, and the full art for her card. #AdamantKingdom #Digimon #Fakemon
I made a few changes to the design to bring it more in line with the mythological Aphrodite.

She uses a Holy Ring as a girdle and each of her wings is made to look like those of a bird associated with Aphrodite. I used the same colors from her eyes for her 3 shells. I wanted to make the main body more odd so I recoloured it to be more skin-like. The giant Holy Ring above her constantly shines a spotlight of sparkling radiance on her.Her card stats are mostly based off some Lilithmon cards I looked up. I picked blue and white as the colors since she's the kind of character that binds her enemies will and immobilizes them. Since she would Digivolve from many different mons I figured the white color would help with that. This card is a reference to when Aphrodite cheats on Hephaestus with Ares, but through a more anime/Digimon lense. Instead of seducing Aresmon when it was on a rampage the power of it's "moe" sleeping face soothes Aresmon's rage. This is how Aphroditemon sealed it into its Sleep Mode.

While Aphroditemon can act spoiled it actually does like Aresmon and loves sleeping on its coils. The sound of its engines lulling her to sleep. Hephaestusmon hates this and is on a mission to create a weapon more powerful than Aresmon.

I have realized I forgot to put the jagged white energy blasting from Naiad's eyes like with Corona. If there were any more elementals like them I would want to use that as a visual signature, so that was a big miss. 😰

Aquaman week 8 pt4. Mother of monsters #Nulliajuk, 5th Dimensional criminal #Quirk, the mechanical #Seaquake, and #Tusky the Walrus.
Nuliajuk is an Inuit Goddess who lives in the ocean and grew to hate Aquaman after he’d saved his teen girlfriend Kako from her. She leads an army of monsters (which really should come up more) and can create even more.

A great character for world-building and an example of Aquaman’s complex relationship with the various pantheons of the DC Universe. Unlike Triton, who is held back by Poseidon, she is a more uncontrollable presence who could easily threaten our hero at any time. Her grudge predates the Aquaman identity and could easily be linked to all kinds of aspects of his world (for once I’m not talking about the Abyssal Dark).A criminal Water-Sprite, self-exiled from the 5th Dimension. Quisp may have made some mistakes in his past but Quirk is outright evil. From what I can tell, his powers seem to have been diminished by his exile since he resorts to working with a pirate in his appearance.

5th Dimensional Imps are always fun and a straight up criminal one is an interesting idea. Imagine a story with Myxy, Batmite, and Quisp all tracking him down through a multi-dimensional chase. I used the same traits as I did on Quisp but pushed them to appear more demonic. I wanted him to be reminiscent of the folkloric version of the Devil.
I’ve changed how I draw the Sea Imps. While I’m keeping the big, heads, hands, and feet I’ve used a more saturated outline colour and more exaggerated fairytale features for Quirk. I want to emphasize their emotional state in their design.

While other 5th Dimensional Imps are tricksters and fanboys, this one is a criminal by the standards of his own people. I wanted to lay into that idea and made him more demonic, with sharper angles and a ton of red. I imagine him as the kind of Imp to inspire stories of demonic familiars and evil spirits, while Qwisp (whose good form I haven’t drawn yet) is his opposite.Possibly a robot Ocean Master built, nobody known much about Seaquake. He/It commands an army of robots and is done in when Aquaman bashes through Seaquake’s head with a wrecking ball.

Robot or not, Seaquake should return as either a self-made villain or a supporter of Ocean Master. Either is fine, but I would prefer a mind behind the machine. I imagine there is a mastermind using these robotic bodies to menace the seas from a safe distance. Though I’d settle for a mad robot gone rogue. Tusky is from the Aquaman 1967 cartoon who likes Sea Imp and tends to headbutt villains. He’s a goofy guy who joined Aquaman to get away from his wife.

I feel that Tusky adds to the “marine life are people too” aspect of Aquaman that I find is often underused. He’s comedy relief character (something we haven’t seen much of so far in this project) and while the guy-who-hates-his-wife trope is played out you can still squeeze some fun and feelings out of it if written well. Being such a big, dumb guy who fumbles into saving the day can help cut down on the overly dower things Aquaman has to deal with.

Aquaman week 8 pt3. #Merder the Microversal warlord, Aquaman’s other steed #Porpy, The Human Flying Fish’s sidekick #Sardine, and #Mongo ruler of the Black City of Necrus.
Didn’t have any reference images for Merder and the little I knew about him is that he can control animals, is similar to Mordru, and is from the Microverse. So I went all in on the head-cannon stuff.

I was going for a twisted Merlin theme and incorporated some design elements from a Micronaught character. I added crazy looking rings into his yellow eyes since I imagine him as an unhinged old man who talks to animals and uses advanced tech to feud with Mordru over dominance (losing bad). He stands out among Aquamans rogues since I haven’t run into any other Microverse characters so far. I made him short in the height chart but he’d be taller when in the Microverse. In cannon Porpy is just a random porpoise Aquaman uses as a steed.

I feel his role could be expanded if he was added to Porm’s pod. Since porpoises are not prone to swimming with dolphins (acc to a BBC article I read about “Dolphin and porpoise pairing seen in Newquay and St Ives”) I think Porm taking in a smaller animal like him would play into her special nature and protective personality that caused her to take in Aquaman. I imagine him as a close “brother” to AM as they would both be outsiders to the pod.Sardine is a fan/sidekick of the Human Flying Fish from the Super Friends comics, based on the cartoon. He and some friends team up with their villain of choice but turn on their mentors by the end of the story.

The idea of an in-universe character who admires someone like the Human Flying Fish is a fun way to expand on his character. I would love it if he was introduced into the mainline comics proper and kept around longer than in the original story. While my take on THFF is an arrogant jobber hired to distract Aquaman I feel that Sardine should be a bigger thinker. He’s got the mind for the villain business and the determination to back it up. Resourceful if not slightly unhinged, he would easily soar above his mentors ability if not for his blind admiration.Mongo rules the Black City of Necrus, another Atlantean offshoot which appears only when an alien satellite enters orbit and a device onboard opens a rift due to Earth’s magnetic field. Similar to Xebel, they are a militaristic people (whom I think could be even more so and represent how Atlanteans were before Aquaman’s time, like how Atlanna remembers them). He hates surface dwellers so much he will kill any he finds bellow the waves.
I draw anyone in or from Necrus with darker, reddish shadows and without shine. Any black becomes solid with a coloured outline. They wear flipper-like shoes but dress as Atlanteans used to since they have limited resources in their other dimension. They have reddish skin in the comics and I enhanced it to be similar to other offshoots like the Tuatha De Danann.

Aquaman week 8 pt2. The king of the Tritonians #KingIqula, Legend’s granddaughter #DaryaSolokov, #KingTrench, and whale hunting enthusiast #QueeQueg.
After the Great Deluge the Atlanteans were trapped inside the dome over Poseidonis. The king Orin’s brother Shalako felt technocracy was to blame and his followers made the first cultural split, leaving through the tunnels beneath city. Orin created a way to turn them into water breathers and offered it to the now “Tritonians”. Shalako, having tapped into dark forces (guess who I think this should be) and feeling betrayed when his people accept cursed his people into monsters which eventually develop into merpeople. This eventually leads to Kordax (who resembles what the cursed Tritonians).

The king of the open ocean living Tritonians, who look down on the Atlanteans for living in a dome. Another king to negatively compare Aquaman too, he appears well loved by his people. He never gets close to Aquaman, instead they have a shaky truce.Darya is Legend’s granddaughter. She could easily become the new Legend (since he died) or he could return and she could continue as an Aquaman equivalent to Talia AL Ghul (just minus the mutual attraction to the hero). The Trench leader who follows under the Queen.Get a load of this guy. QueeQueg is an eccentric extremist who believes it’s hit right to hunt whales and that anyone who opposes that right is evil. He uses a variety of harpoons and torpedoes to take out anyone he sees as a part of the “dark forces of anti-whaling” and has fashioned himself after a character from Moby Dick. Turns out he’s more of an Ahab.
Just imagine this guy with a Green Arrow-like arsenal of trick harpoons and high tech torpedoes ranting about “My rights” and calling Aquaman a “woke zombie”. And there are people who think comics never used to tackle political issues.
I extended his facial tattoos to fit a CMYK theme across the rest of his design.
