Lucas has always been extremely poor when it comes to standing up to bad faith charges of antisemitism, first against Corbyn and now the Greens.

If the government calls it a genocide they will be forced to stop supplying arms, intelligence and political cover and open themselves up to a charge of complicity.

Zionism as a liberation movement - most liberation movements don't involve the ethnic cleansing of the indigenous population.

So - it's fine for Palestinians to live under a Jewish state, but not the other way round. Sounds more than a bit racist to me.

What is shameful is your dreadful coverage of Palestine. Calls for one democratic state, or a federated solution, is supported by some Israelis and some Jews. Zionists are both Jewish and non-Jewish. Your constant conflation of Jews with Zionism is antisemitic and fuels prejudice.

Nope - every real world example has shown that supply reduces and the quality of the stock deteriorates as the remaining landlords are willing to spend less Give me one example of where rent controls have actually worked well

whiffler.bsky.social @whiffler.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
You'll get either corporate landlords (only ones that can make money renting out properties nowadays) or those who don't spend anything on maintaining the property or bother sticking to the myriad rules, regulations and licensing regimes now in place. The demand to rent won't evaporate either.

whiffler.bsky.social @whiffler.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Laudable, but perhaps you can explain how you will avoid this policy further reducing the supply of rental properties?

Another total waste of resources. If the government weren't so hell bent on the idiotic classification of those protesting genocide as terrorists, the police and courts might have more time to deal with actual crimes.

Huckabee is thick as shit: "If the UK is really interested in dealing with issues they feel like are wrong, where are the sanctions against North Korea, China, Russia?" The UK does have sanctions in place in relation to trade with all these countries.

Labour should hang their heads in shame over this ridiculous law. The fact that their only bedfellow is the orange, racist, sex pest should tell them everything they need to know - but given how full of Labour friends of Israel the cabinet is I'm not holding my breath for any sudden epiphany.

Apparently tasers and pepper spray were mentioned in the draft at March conference and removed in the latest version - but I haven't seen the actual doc so can't confirm that.

whiffler.bsky.social @whiffler.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
The trouble is that the press don't really care about the explanation - they'll just pick up points such as this and use them to beat the Green party with.
100
whiffler.bsky.social @whiffler.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
I think that the final draft of the proposal for conference in October omits reference to tasers and pepper spray. The Times appears to be referencing the earlier draft of the proposal (March conference) which was subsequently amended.

whiffler.bsky.social @whiffler.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
Calling pepper spray and tasers "murder weapons" isn't particularly helpful. I'd rather have police carry them than guns, which would fit that description more accurately and cause far more harm. In a utopian society we wouldn't need police, guns, prisons, but we don't live in one.

Yes - and it's no good just sweeping it under the carpet. There clearly needs to be some changes to the party's policy making processes and systems if they are to be taken seriously at a national scale.

whiffler.bsky.social @whiffler.bsky.social · 24/08/2026
Yes - but this was slightly more than "any member" - it was the Green Party's Crime and Justice Working Group. It's really not helpful having these policies proposed, they just provide an easy stick to beat the party with.

Could the anti-Israel fervour having anything to do with the fact that the apartheid, racist state is committing a genocide? The Economist's abysmal coverage of Palestine hits another low - congratulations.

Typically patronising piece from a stale, reactionary publication like the Economist. What is touchingly naive and puerile is your unswerving belief in the free market.

Hard to think of a more deeply damaging start to Burnham’s premiership than giving green light to new oil & gas in N. Sea, if true. It won’t lower bills or lead to greater energy security but will drive an even hotter planet. What a terrible signal to give to rest of the world #ClimateVandalism

It would be naive to expect much progressive change from Burnham given his political past. I suspect his honeymoon period will be extremely short and that he'll soon be a deeply unpopular PM. This announcement, and the likelihood that Mahmood's will be chancellor, are revealing his true colours.

Comparing profit margins of landlords to other businesses is completely irrelevant. What matters is ROCE, return on capital employed, and if landlords can earn more by selling up and putting the proceeds in a hassle free savings or investment account, they will do. Sadly, a deeply flawed analysis.

Attitudes towards the ongoing genocide in Palestine serve as a useful litmus test for politicians, and publications, of all hues. A test the Economist regularly fails.
