I cant draw Claude consistently, but I do enjoy drawing him(he's the one holding the bottle). Hoping to get a commission of him soon because he's the only one I dont have a picture of on my wall of the main cast. Anyway, more character doodles. #writesky #art

Finished Mate by Ali Hazelwood. This took me back to my high-school wattpad days where I'd read almost exclusively werewolf stories. They are definitely a guilty pleasure, and Mate fell solidly into the category of entertaining and enjoyable. #booksky

Finished The Bones Beneath My Skin by TJ Klune. This gave me Escape to Witch Mountain vibes in the best way possible, just more adult. I loved that movie as a kid, and I also enjoyed this book. It struck a good balance of emotional and funny depending on what the scene called for. #booksky

Merrow is a new adult fantasy novel in the final editing stages. It follows a grieving widow who hasn't aged since her fiance's funeral in search of the truth behind his death, a supposed work accident caused by a misfired spell, nearly a century after it happened. #writesky -Querying summer 2026

Blurb

Nerissa has lived her life waiting for death so she can be reunited with her deceased fiancé. The only issue is she isn’t aging. Living decades past when she was supposed to as a Merrow, she struggles to come to terms with how long her life stretches out in front of her.

Then, nearly a century after her fiancé's death, Nerissa receives an invitation to a party. Its host is none other than Blanche Child, the Witch her fiancé had been working for when he died. All the extra years start to make a little more sense. She had always been suspicious of the circumstances surrounding his death, and this party may be the perfect place to put proof to those suspicions.

Finished Eona by Alison Goodman. This was a good end to the duology. The stakes were intense and kept the plot moving forward. The ending was a bit rushed but everything was resolved. I also missed "Eon's" character as I found him to be a more unique and interesting protagonist than "Eona." #booksky

Some more library books to add to my mini bookcase. Fixed two that I made mistakes on earlier and included two that I currently have checked out and am in the process of reading. I do my best to wait until I have a full page of stuff to print so I dont waste paper. #booksky

Finished Monstrous Nights by Genoveva Dimova. This was a good wrap up to the duology. I think it had been a bit too long since I read the first one because it took me some time to remember everything that was happening. I greatly enjoyed the setting and worldbuilding in this series. #booksky

Finished Lightbringer by Claire Legrand. It was a great end to the series and probably my favorite book of the three. All the different elements really came together for the climax. I do wish we found out what happened to some of the side characters, but I also understand why we don't. #booksky

Just a quick doodle of a scene I recently edited in my book, Merrow. Still playing around with underwater outfits. I tried out using figure skating costumes as the reference in this drawing as they allow for a lot of movement in the legs, which is important in swimming. #doodle #writesky

Finished Oathbound by Tracy Deonn. I thought this was the last book in the series and it was only with 200 pages left that I began to question if everything would be resolved only to discover there's a fourth book on the way. This book was awesome, and I cant wait for the next one! #booksky

The only thing Nerissa wants is to grow old, pass quietly in her sleep, and finally join her fiance Dylan in death. Finding out she’s got another couple of centuries to live doesn’t change anything; it just complicates it. Her only source of comfort is the engagement band she had used to propose to him before he left.

Then she receives an invitation to an employee appreciation party hosted by the family of Witches her fiance was working for when he died. She begins to think that maybe there was a reason she’s lived for so long. She had always been suspicious of his death, and this party may be her only chance of finding proof to her claims. What’s an extended weekend when she’s got centuries ahead of her?

Getting the proof isn’t as easy as she was hoping, the employees are tight-lipped and most of the Estate is closed off to the guests. It’s only thanks to the young heir of the family breaking into her room that she manages to broker a deal: information in exchange for Nerissa’s engagement band. Now Nerissa must decide between uncovering the truth and risking the last piece of Dylan she has.The background is a photograph taken from under the water. Half the photo is taken up by the waves on the surface that are broken up by sunbeams penetrating the water. On each corner is a white corner decoration with straight lines curling as they meet each other.

Firstly, letters were supposed to appear in Nerissa’s mailbox, not in her hand. The fact that this letter had appeared in such a way did nothing to lessen the torrent emotions currently fighting for dominance in her stomach. That was just the first thing too.

Then there was the matter that the Child family was writing to her after all these years. After decades of silence there was no real reason for them to be reaching out to her in this moment. Not anything good anyway. The last time Nerissa had received a letter from them it was to tear her heart out in the most impersonal way possible.

She was almost afraid to touch it again. She stuck out one finger and gently poked it, wondering if it would disintegrate in the water and spare her the trouble. It didn’t. In fact, there wasn’t even the barest hint of warping, which could only mean the paper had been treated to survive in this very setting, and more likely than not, she was its intended reciptent.

The letter rotated once again, the bright gold lettering catching the icy blue light filtering in through the roof above. Nerissa squinted as she tried to read it, the sheen hiding some of the letters against the dark green backing until it tilted away from the light just enough to read:

To the spouse of Dylan Price. The background is a photograph taken from under the water. Half the photo is taken up by the waves on the surface that are broken up by sunbeams penetrating the water. On each corner is a white corner decoration with straight lines curling as they meet each other.

Finished reading Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. Starting the year off strong, I loved this book. I was always amazed at how clear each of the POV's voices were. The story is beautifully written and my only critique is there was a character whose conclusion I wanted a little more drawn out. #booksky

Nerissa and Galya having a chat. They talk quite a bit to each other over the course of the book. #inktober
An ink drawing of Galya (left) and Nerissa (right) both in profile view. Galya is looking out of the corner of her eye towards Nerissa as Nerissa looks forward, mouth parted in conversation.

Dylan is the last named character I had yet to draw from my book. And with this, every character has had their moment! I'll continue with inktober drawing more of my favorite characters. #inktober
An ink drawinf of Dylan (left) and Nerissa (right). They are both merrows. Dylan has his right arm tucked around Nerissa's head as they lay in bed under a quilt. Nerissa is tucked up beside Dylan as he places a kiss on her forehead.

The quotation that inspired this drawing is "gonna go for a little bit" from Best in Show (2000).

It's Nerissa's dad's turn! One more character and then I'll have drawn all the named characters in my book. Which is super cool! #inktober
An ink drawing of Nerissa's dad, Melvin who is a merrow. He's wearing a swim cap like covering on his head, and he's crouched down, left arm resting on his left knee. He's wearing a sweater vest and a collared shirt.

The quotation that inspired this drawing is "im just trying to make" from Rear Window (1954).

This is Alec's dad Walter. And the quotation that inspired this drawing was "I dont know the first thing about you." And this has less to do with the drawing of Walter than the fact that I really dont know anything about him beyond the fact that he's Alec's dad. #inktober
An ink drawing of Walter, Alec's dad and a witch. He has one hand on his hip and the other raised out of frame. Hes wearing an old fashioned tunic with puffy sleeves and a waist gathered by a rope. His hair is in a bowl cut style and is on the lighter side.

The quotation that inspired this drawing is "I dont know the first thing about you" from The Painted Veil (2006).

Meet Dorthy and Betty. They're fellow party goers with Nerissa. They play a very small role, but it was fun looking up 1950's fashion to draw them. #inktober
An ink drawing of Dorthy (left) and Betty (right). They are both holding a champaign flute in their left hand and sitting on a sofa. Dorthy has medium length curly hair, pearl drop earrings, and a suit dress with pencil skirt. Betty is wearing a blouse with a silk sash and calf length a-line skirt. She's also wearing large earrings and a pendant necklace.

The quotation that inspired this drawing was "well, let me tell you something" from Witness of the Prosecution (1957).

This is Wynn, Nerissa's mom. I was playing around with how aquatic humanoids would dress in my book, and for a short time I considered having their outfits be based off of ice skaters as the outfits are pretty but usually not super fabric heavy. #inktober
An ink drawing of Wynn, a merrow. She has a cap on her head similar to a swim cap. She's wearing a double breasted dress with puff sleeves and a short puffy skirt. She is hiding a present behind her back and holding a finger to her lips as though shes asking the viewer to keep a secret. Her legs are tucked up underneath her, with one long flat foot curling up behind her.

The quotation that inspired this drawing was "dont want to ruin the surprise" from Hitch (2005).

An ink drawing of Quince. His locs are pulled up into a high bun. Hes wearing a long sleeved turtleneck and is looking sternly towards the side. He has a kite shaped scar on his forehead.

Finally caught up with my inktober posts! As with the previous two, character information is in the alt text. Hopefully now I'll be better about doing daily updates! These are more minor characters, and I think Rutherford is the only one I've drawn and posted before. #inktober
Ink drawing of Valeria (left) and Kieran (right). They are sister and brother. Valeria is peeking around a corner, looking worried. Kieran is looking to his older sister to know what to do. Valeria has shoulder length dark curly hair with one side pulled back. Kieran has dark short curly hair. Both characters have a kite shaped scar on their forheads.

The quotation that inspired this drawing is "anybody here" from Dog Day Afternoon (1975)An ink drawing of Cora, a harpy. She's a barista, wearing a collared shirt and apron. She has feathers where her ears are and wears her short straight hair in a ponytail. Two large wings stretch from her back as she pours steamed milk onto a cup.

The quotation that inspired this drawing is "I'll see you next week" from What Happens in Vegas (2008)An ink drawing of Rutherford, a witch and Joan's son. He's holding his arms open in a welcoming gesture. His hair is slicked back and he has large sideburns. Hes wearing a button up vest and has large sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He's smiling.

The quotation that inspired this drawing was "hey, there he is" from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010)An ink drawing of Francis, a witch and Joan's husband. Hes sitting in a rocking chair smoking a pipe. Hes looking off into the distance with a serious look on his aged face. Hes wearing a button up shirt. His hair is short and slightly messy.

The quotation that inspired this drawing was "im gonna sit down" from Badlands (1973)

Inktober art dump continued. There will be one more after this. Info on who's in the drawings is in the alt text. This has a lot of really minor characters that I haven't drawn either at all or all that often so they were a lot of fun to design. #inktober
An ink drawing of Bernie, a monopod. He's an older man wearing a formal vest and pants. In his right hand is a playing card with a heart on it. He's sitting in a chair with a table beside him mostly out of frame. He has longer hair that's slicked back and wavy at the bottom.

The quotation that inspired this drawing was "gonna take a little time" from Kelly's Heroes (1970).An ink drawing of Solange. She's angrily pointing a finger towards the viewer with an furious look on her face. She has white hair that's been French braided. She is wearing a high necked vest with transparent, flowing short sleeves flowing out from underneath it.

The quotation that inspired this drawing is "get close enough" from Sin City (2005)An ink drawing of Owen and Ellis. They are Niamh and Lochlan's kids. They are looking earnestly towards the viewer. Ellis' hands are bunched up into fists in front of his chest and Owen has his hand on Ellis' shoulder. Owen has a short messy hair cut and Ellis has bangs that are split on the left side.

The quotation that inspired this drawing is "if you dont mind me asking" from Big Bang Theory (2013)An ink drawing of Lewis, a Fae and museum curator. Hes sitting on a sofa woth his elbow resting on the back and hand folded under his chin. Hes holding a cane in his other hand. He has medium wavy hair with a small braid running along the part. He's wearing a cardigan, scarf and turtleneck.

The quotation that inspired this drawing was "I'd like to introduce you to" from Striptease (1996).

Inktober art dump. I promise I've been keeping up, I've just been terrible about posting it. More information about who's in the pictures is in the alt text. I'll post the rest soon so I'm up to date. #inktober
A picture of Galya, who is a Rusalka, leaning against a wall. She has thick pigtails, high waisted black pants, and elbow length puff sleeves. She's smiling mischievously with her right hand abover her head supporting herself against the wall and the other on her hip.

The quotation that inspired this picture is "im going to go take a shower" from Textuality (2021)A ink drawing of Arthur (left) and Claude (right). They are leaning towards one another. Arthur had hid hand on Claude's chest and Claude has his arm on Arthur's shoulder. Arthur has his mouth open as though he's saying something to Claude.

Arthur has dark slicked back and and a t-shirt. Claude has slightly lighter hair that's curly and is worn at a medium length. He is also wearing a t-shirt and dark wash jeans.

The quotation that inspired today's drawinf was "its time to go home" from The Notebook (2004)An ink drawing of Nerissa (lower left) and Niamh (upper right). Theyare talking on the phone with one another, separated by a telephone cable in the middle.

Nerissa is holding the phone in place with her shoulder, a hesitant look on her face. She's wearing a black tank top, her long gray hair is down, and on her left arm an armband is just visible. Niamh is looking pensive. She's holding the phone in her left hand and wearing a deep cut v-neck. Her dark curly hair is down and stops mid back.

The quotation that inspired this drawing was "you sure you dont wanna?" From Fools Gold (2008)An ink drawing of Lochlan, Niamh's new husband and a Selkie. He's holding a mug of tea in an open room with a window in the background. Hes wearing a thick dark sweater and is smiling. His thick hair has a slight wave to it and is pushed back.

The quotation that inspired this drawing was "hey" from Sleepover (2004)
