I played around with sidecar records and ended up with public polls as a test. The poll embed is defined in a sidecar record, and all votes point to that instead of the bsky post record

it does work, its just that its not implemented in the ui. i made a userscript that patches mastopod and i can login just fine this makes it seem like the project very under resourced, and not a technical limitation

okay so im trying something, so this is a custom feed that hydrates its own content, without relying on any appview to display it. for every new post that appears in the feed, it tracks its interactions to provide an independent and (best effort) hydrated getFeed and getPostThread apis

social-app fork that uses a custom appview server, which hijacks all getFeed requests to return my custom pre-hydrated feed instead of the actual feed it requested (just to test it out quickly).
the feed is a simple regex of all new posts that contains the text "bluesky". the feed shows hydrated posts with working like indicators. it also hydrates posts with extra metadata like the user display name and pfp

Oh also im not self hosting constellation but i implemented the constellation api routes in the index server because it was easy enough to just query from the stored backlinks i got from spacedust (which i do self host)

gave Bounce a try on a fresh test acc @testhello.whey.party and i ran into some issues. bridging from fedi to bsky didnt seem to work. its still beta though, so im not too worried, itll probably smooth out over time

like what about this, this is for the Index server responses so they can send out partially hydrated views for threads. so like if the index server also hosts a few of the users hydrated content they can just inline it and avoid repeat fetches but leave the remote posts as refs? i dont really know..

lexicon schema draft for threadViewPostRef which is a modified threadViewPost with the difference being that it is now allowed to have references (links) to posts instead of being required to inline (hydrate) them
