The quote I shared several times on air tonight….
Historian of fascism here. This is an escalation of an attempt to normalize extreme violence, ritualize violence, militarize the country, and make violence entertaining so when they ask you to commit violence in their name, you will be ready.

In the last ten days I've seen the Welsh National Opera, Wales v Denmark and Norway in the football, goth punk legends Creeper, the Blind Boys of Alabama and London African Gospel Choir. All within two miles or so of my house. Cardiff is good sometimes.

Bookies follow the money, they'll adjust their odds according to who is betting on what. That's it, they don't know anything more than anyone else.

Looks like Clarkson blocked me for asking this. Israeli propaganda and use of the passive voice is pervasive that even intelligent, Very Sensible people are still using it three years into an actual genocide.

Plenty of people on the left were critical of Hamas' attack three years ago. But we shouldn't have to reiterate that criticism every single time we criticise the Israeli government three years on.

Just curious, what would the Israeli government have to do for you to describe their actions as "vicious brutality"?

Of course, but how many of the others have been handed capital city status? I'm not saying it would have been radical growth, but you'd think things would have gone at least slightly differently if it were named capital in the 1950s.

You'd think if Aberystwyth was chosen in the 1950s it would have evolved quite differently over the past 70 years though, no?

We would have had better infrastructure across mid-Wales had it been chosen. Personally if we're looking in that neck of the woods why not go for Machynlleth though?!

I know the wording on the amendment is unequivocal, but this isn't a guy that plays by the rules. I'm not saying it'll necessarily happen but I agree with Pete that the assumption he won't even try seems bizarre given his track record. He is 100% going to try.

What do you mean? Where's the mechanism to stop him? He secures the Republican nomination, gets put on the ballot paper. What then? Legal challenges? The Supreme Court has already been more than willing to do his bidding.

Great thread. I think Michael Rosen said let them read whatever they want, as long as they're reading. Our kid loves reading instruction leaflets, manuals, whatever. As well as actual books, of course.

Peoples mentalities have shifted so much, when I moved to Walthamstow in 2007 colleagues turned their nose up (presumably they remembered it from the 80s) when it was already quite nice. Now it's unrecognisable even from then. Tbf, the 1970s was really quite a long time ago now.

Is this your first day on the internet? People say stuff on here all the time. It's not that deep, a lot of us are just thinking out loud.

I'm not sure I would say I was lamenting it, just stating observations. I also didn't say I'd prefer they remain so, just that I'd rather my political leaders didn't prioritise it as you suggested. I'm not sure it's the job of the Welsh to educate anyone else when we've enough to be dealing with

М П @whereistherent.bsky.social · 18/09/2026
I'd prefer they focus on governing effectively and, in the case of Wales, developing our own national media tbh. Not sure it'd do much for the people of Wales to have English people more aware of what is going on, unless it somehow resulted in fairer investment here.

I've no real opinion about the America part, the US dominate our media and culture so it's not massively surprising. But I'd wager a lot of people know more about the politics of Germany or France than they do about the politics of Wales, too.

I don't like JOB but I appreciate him saying this openly because it's really difficult to admit one's ignorance and many English friends have doubled down on their ignorance, saying things about Wales they'd never consider saying about any other country.

Literally nothing. Not politics obviously, but when people found out we were sending our son to a Welsh-medium school it blew their actual minds. "He's *only* going to be taught in Welsh?" etc For most people Wales is a nice place to go on holiday seen as an extension of England and that's about it.

Almost all people in England know next to nothing. People working for UK Government know next to nothing. English friends who are 'politically engaged' know nothing.

I wonder sometimes how many of you are aware of what's happening in the devolved nations, politically. One would assume not a lot. Whilst you know much about America. Tis interesting
