Living a full life means being prepared for death.

Did you know you can adopt a grave? 🪦 Volunteers around the world take on the care of a stranger's gravesite. They visit, clean the headstone, leave flowers, and even research the life of the person buried there, so their story isn't forgotten.

October is #PregnancyandInfantLoss Awareness Month, a time to remember and support the families grieving a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, or the loss of an infant or child. When we break the silence, we make room for parents to share their stories, be heard, and know they are not alone.

Do you ever look for signs that someone you've lost is still near? 🕊️ Across cultures, people have found comfort in the same quiet idea: our loved ones don't always leave us completely. Have you ever felt or found a sign from someone you miss? 🤍

During the #PchumBen Festival, Cambodians visit pagodas to make offerings of food and prayers for their ancestors, going back up to seven generations. Families honour them with sticky rice balls (bay ben) and merit-making. 🍚🕯️ #funfactfriday

TO MY FELLOW BEREAVED

I see you. Others may not, but I do.
I understand the endless ache inside your chest.
The nights you lay awake, crying.
The brave face you put on for the world.
I see you and I am so proud of the way you carry on,
despite not wanting to.
You wake up every morning with a broken heart yet
you hold your head up and face the world.
I see you and your brave soul.

After you're gone, the people who love you most will be exhausted, grieving, and expected to make dozens of decisions, often within days. Don't make them guess.

Has someone who passed away ever come to you in a dream? And if so... did it feel comforting? Or did it stir up something else entirely? 💭

When a person enters the final stages of life, they naturally stop eating and drinking. For family members and caregivers, this can be one of the hardest things to witness. Because the body can no longer process nutrients, forcing food or liquids can lead to physical discomfort.

#Grief doesn't have an end date. It's not a stage you finish or a task you complete; it's a relationship that changes shape over time. Some days it's heavy. Some days it's quiet. Some days it shows up out of nowhere. That's what love looks like after loss.

🕊Someone who is dying often knows exactly what they need to say before they die , to whom, and why. Our job isn't to write that script. It's to make enough room, and enough quiet, that they can say it.

When someone is dying, we want the right words; something comforting, something meaningful, something that proves we showed up. But most people who are dying don't need our words nearly as much as they need our silence, our attention, our willingness to just be there.

#Grief is the natural, honest continuation of love after loss. Yet so many of us are taught to grieve quietly: to keep it out of conversation, tucked behind "I'm fine" or to show that we're "over it". If you are grieving a loss, remember: you don't owe anyone a smaller version of your feelings.

We make films about dying because so much of our fear isn't really about death itself-it's about the unknown. What does the process actually look like? Understanding doesn't erase the fear, but it softens it. It turns dread into something we can actually sit with. whenyoudie.org/the-films/

The space between what you want to leave behind (your values, your voice, your wishes) and what actually gets passed down when nothing's written or said. It's not about money. It's the conversations we keep putting off. Communicate your wishes now. Have the conversation.

#Greenburial is legal, usually cheaper than a conventional funeral, and at conservation burial grounds, your plot helps permanently protect the land around it.

#Caregiving is an act of love , but love alone isn't enough to sustain it. Behind every person caring for someone they love, there needs to be a circle caring for them too. Asking for support isn't failing at caregiving, it's what makes it possible to keep going. 💛

The question of whether consciousness continues after death isn't just philosophy anymore; it's being explored through real research and storytelling. It's an age-old question, and one we explore in our first film, In the Realm of Death & Dreaming. Does consciousness persist after the body dies?

Ancient Egyptians buried their royals with jars of honey and it wasn't just for the afterlife snack table. Honey never spoils, so to the Egyptians it symbolized immortality itself. Tombs were stocked with raw honey and honey cakes to nourish the dead on their journey into eternity.

When you're making your end-of-life plans, don't forget your beloved animals. Who will care for them? A few simple decisions now can spare them confusion and give you real peace of mind. Because loving them means planning for all of their tomorrows, even the ones without you in them. 😽

Wendell Berry, 1934–2026 He wrote about grief the way he wrote about the land , with patience, and without turning away. For him, sorrow was just love, still doing its work. Rest well in the ground you tended.

Today, in the US, #NationalGriefAwarenessDay is observed. But grief awareness isn't assigned to a specific geography. Today is about more than awareness. It's about permission ; permission to still be grieving, permission to talk about the person you lost, permission to not be "over it."

We talk about birth, love, and milestones openly, but death? We whisper around it, avoid it, treat it like a topic too heavy to hold. We are grateful to other educators who use and share our work. We are especially thankful when we receive feedback.

Could a radical shift in consciousness, paired with the sudden release of deep psychological stress, actually trigger the immune system to heal the body faster than we thought possible? It's a question we dig into in our first film, In the Realm of Death & Dreaming.

There are only a handful of figures whose loss lands as a genuinely shared experience, not confined to one country, genre, or generation, but felt almost everywhere at once. #DollyParton was one of those figures, and news of her death has produced exactly that kind of #collectivegrief

Wanting the suffering to end (theirs, or the exhausting suspended state you're both living in ) is not the same as wanting them gone. Relief and guilt can arrive in the same breath. It doesn't mean you didn't want them to stay. It means you loved them enough to let them go.

"I don't know what to say" is one of the biggest reasons people avoid visiting someone who's dying and it usually costs both of them something real. Here's the truth: there's no perfect script. What tends to matter most isn't the right words, it's showing up.

Properly dosed comfort medication doesn't hasten death. These myths and misconceptions can make some families (and even some clinicians) hesitant to treat pain adequately, which means people suffer unnecessarily. Talk to the care team to see what is right for your loved one.
