Whether your kid already started or you've still got weeks left, back to school stress doesn't wait for the actual date. Tonight: a Back to School Bingo card — how many squares have you already hit?

Back to school doesn't creep up. It arrives all at once because every institution touching your family runs its deadlines in the same narrow window, and none of them coordinate. You didn't miss something. The runway was short by design. 🔗👇 theparentingrevolution.substack.com/p/back-to-sc...

What Happens When Cooling Assistance Shrinks and the Heat Doesn’t
When summers get hotter and power bills spike, parents are pushed into choosing between rent, electricity, and safe childcare

Wheelhouze @wheelhouze.bsky.social · 08/07/2026
We talk about “parent choice” for summer like everyone is choosing between the same options. Some parents pick between camps; others pick between the light bill and a cooler room. Those aren’t the same decisions.
000
Wheelhouze @wheelhouze.bsky.social · 06/07/2026
We talk about cooling assistance like it’s just a budget line. For many families, it’s the difference between kids spending summer in a safe, cool space or in an overheated apartment because the electric bill won.

Every parent who showed up to a meeting this week, asked a hard question, or simply read with their child before bed moved the needle. Systems change slowly. You are the reason they change at all. Rest this weekend. Come back Monday ready.

Oklahoma just signed a reading reform law modeled on Mississippi. Same third-grade retention. Same Science of Reading urgency. The question nobody is asking: did they copy the implementation? Mississippi spent fifteen years building that system. Oklahoma is giving itself five.

Teacher accountability w/o system accountability is scapegoating. That’s the key distinction in today’s piece. Teachers are not accountable for outcomes they were never trained to produce w/tools they were never given. The classroom cannot fight back. The district, the state, and the vendor can.

Something worth naming this week: accountability in education is not about blame. It is about learning. Systems that cannot identify what went wrong cannot fix what went wrong. The accountability gap in American education is not just a justice problem. It is a design problem. This wk we trace both.
