Great news. Redcar’s Labour MP Anna Turley: “These are the first battery-electric trains of their kind on a UK main line, and here’s the bit I’m most excited about: they’ll run zero-emission on the stretch of track into Saltburn that isn’t electrified. That means electric trains reaching our coast.’

‘Supersizing before our eyes’: UN warns of record El Niño approaching
Event is likely to be largest in at least 1,000 years and will pile extra heat into a world already in a climate crisis The El Niño climate phenomenon is “supersizing before our eyes”, the UN has said. The event is near certain to shatter temperature records, according to the latest forecasts. The El Niño is likely to be the largest in at least 1,000 years and will pile extra heat into an atmosphere where temperatures are already rising rapidly due to global heating. The combination means 2027 is set to “blow apart” the record and be the hottest year ever recorded. Continue reading...

The article provides some very helpful context, but I would take issue with the headline. It is entirely unclear we're going to see a "record-breaking El Niño". The current consensus forecast is for a Niño3.4 value of similar magnitude to 2023/2024 (~2.0C) & much smaller than 2015/2016 (~2.7C).
