I’m making 100 native wildflower seed packets to give out at work on Earth Day this year, and I had a great time designing the packaging today 🌸

The results of my next dye experiment using spent espresso grounds. The resulting color is a little lighter in person, but it’s still lovely. The plant is my favorite CA native grass, Danthonia californica 😊 #naturaldye #nativeplants

That’s awesome to hear that that’s a good spot! I’ve never experienced tides as low as they’re forecasted to be, I can’t wait ✨

Ahh it’s so beautiful!! I have been dreaming of seeing one. Do you have any suggestions of favorite tidepooling spots in NorCal? We are heading to the Half Moon Bay area in late May to check out Pillar Point :)

Thank you!! It’s a really fun technique, though very meticulous and time consuming- but if you don’t mind those factors I think it’s super enjoyable :)

I am going on a short tidepooling trip in May to look for Hopkin’s rose nudibranchs, so I wanted to weave myself a small patch for good luck. Wow this was challenging!! With two colors, each row becomes two rows, so this small friend took about 4 hours 😬 #nudibranch #weaving

I had a great time doing a natural dye experiment today- I work at a coffee shop and have infinite access to used espresso grounds. The process we tried was painting iron mordant paste onto beige linen and then immersing them in a strong, tannic brew of the grounds. It worked out well! #naturaldye

It’s done! 45-thread heddle cut out of maple wood 😊 Featuring a polyphemus moth with oak leaves, which are one of the species’ host plants. I’m excited to use this with my box loom once the wax finish cures a little more! #woodburning #weaving #sciart

I knit this hat for my partner out of some textured handspun yarn (I rushed the wool preparation process… many neps were created 😅). I finished it off with a little double sided woven tag- featuring rough skinned newt and big-headed ant, two of his favorites 😊 #knitting #weaving #spinning

Another crotch seam repair, this one done by hand. The fabric had unraveled along the seam and created a hole, so I placed a black fabric patch underneath and reinforced with running stitches- aiming for subtlety! #mending

Did a lot of machine darning for friends this weekend! It’s not the most exciting form of mending, but it does a really good job on inner thigh holes and it feels great to get many pairs of pants back to a wearable state ✨

I made a quick little pouch out of my woven ant bands! I designed 8 pixel charts of different ant species for this project, sized so that each band would be the same length. I chose species with, in my opinion, some of the coolest morphology- especially love the big heads 🐜 #weaving #sewing #ants

It’s a pickup technique using a supplementary weft! I alternate between one row of pattern and one row of plain weave. Bandweaving is so enjoyable and so versatile, I hope you enjoy it once you get to try it out!

Not a ton of creative work going on these days, but I did weave this tiny sturgeon for a coworker’s birthday. I am thinking it would be cute sewn onto clothing, but I guess the sky is the limit for this 2-inch long fish textile! #weaving #sturgeon #sciart

Your mending looks so great!! One of my favorite yarns for darning is Laine St. Pierre- it does contain nylon which I don’t love, but is splittable into 4 strands so it works with a lot of weights of fabric you might need to repair :)

Working through this very long Krokbragd warp! This sample is using yarn was spun (by mill) incorrectly, it is fingering weight so I’m using two strands held together. The defect only appears when the yarn is washed, so my hope is that sturdy weft faced weaving is a viable use for it 🤞 #weaving
