The Terminal List – Season 1, Episode 4: Detachment (2022) – Review
Detachment digs deeper into James Reece’s path of vengeance and the web of corporate and military interests that keep pulling him forward. Chris Pratt continues to carry the weight of this character proving he has more range as an actor than people think. By this point in the season Reece is fully off the grid, dealing with the aftermath of the ambush that wiped out his team, the murders of his wife and daughter, and the growing evidence that something far bigger than a simple failed operation is at play.

Lanterns – Season 1, Episode 8: Stars And Dirt (2026) – Review
Well, it's time to flick the lights off on Lanterns for now as we've finally reached the final episode of its eight episode run. It's been something of an impressive ride, especially as - for the most part - the show has focused more on the "cop" part of the space cop nature of the classic comic book character than it has on large-scale cosmic drama.

Just because you have a good concept for a film, it doesn't mean that your finished movie is immediately guaranteed to work. Obviously you have to follow the idea to its logical conclusion, while ensuring that the various themes and morals remain steadfast, but if the story takes a wrong path, it can be disastrous for the finished product. If you need a handy example to help explain futher, you'd be hard pressed to find a better one than 2016's sci-fi "romance", Passengers.

Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse (2015) – Review
As versatile creatures as they are, there's something about zombies that makes them perfect foils for comedy. Shambling, clueless beasts at the best of times, their easy-to-dissemble nature makes them prime candidates for some messy slapstick and their slow pace is perfect to allow the human leads to utter any number of quips, punchlines or wise cracks before they find themselves within biting range.

Episode 3 of picks up right where the previous one left off and digs deeper into the mess surrounding James Reece. Chris Pratt continues to carry the weight of this role with a quiet intensity that is not normally associated with him . The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) – Review
We've discussed the trials and tribulations of building a better sequel here before; but how do you follow a story like The Hunger Games and not repeat yourself? Numerous follow-ups have played the "oh no, not again" card in order to offset a similar reaction from audiences - Hell, Die Hard 2 made John McClane's disbelief that he was in yet another terrorist situation part of the ad campaign - but there was always a feeling that author Suzanne Collins and the filmmakers behind The Hunger Games: Catching Fire were in danger of getting caught between a rock and a hard place.

The Terminal List – Season 1, Episode 2: Encoding (2022) – Review
Episode 2 of The Terminal List picks up in the immediate, devastating aftermath of the events that closed the premiere and wastes little time establishing the emotional and narrative stakes that will drive the rest of the season. Where the first episode delivered high-octane combat and a shocking personal tragedy, this follow-up shifts into a more intimate, paranoia-laced mode of storytelling that prioritises character psychology and the slow assembly of a conspiracy.

Oh hey, anyone remember when it seemed like M3GAN was going to take over the world? Not in an AI, crush, kill, destroy sort of way like the movies suggested, but more in a way that hinted that the Tiktok dancing, ear-ripping lil' Terminator would become even more of a household name once M3GAN 2.0 hit in 2025. However, it seems that one thing that can stop the advancement of maurauding AI is poor box office, and after 2.0 halted the rise of the titular 'bot, it seemed that M3GAN's ascent had been halted just as quick as it began.

Despite spending a good share of its time delivering red hot episodes, it really does seem that season 5 has gone spectacularly off the boil in its final stretch. With a couple of underachievers landing in a row, it's now down to W. Peter Iliff's "Till Death Do We Part" to end things on an up note - but even though we're treated to a story filled with ruthless gangsters, half-naked broads and a genuinely surprising twist here and there, is the fate of a Tales From The Crypt finale really in the hands of *checks notes* John Stamos?

I have to say, watching terrible things happen to terrible people can prove to be the most fun you can have in ages - especially in this time of vapid reality shows and dead-eyed social media celebrities. In an effort to feed our hunger of wanting to watch self-obsessed posers with bloated amounts of self-worth get a humorous dose of reality, director Greg Jardin is happy to pitch in with It's What's Inside, a comedy thriller with a sci-fi twist that sees a bunch of privileged friends get to know each other way too personally.

Last Seen – Season 1, Episode 5: The Prophet (2026) – Review
The Prophet delivers a devastating, precisely calibrated turn that reframes everything the series has carefully built. After four episodes of mounting dread, investigative tension, and the slow unspooling of a father’s refusal to accept loss, this penultimate chapter steps back and shows the origin of the wound at the heart of the story. What emerges is not a simple villain origin or a cheap twist, but a portrait of grief so absolute it warps love, faith, and identity into something both tragic and monstrous.

Slow Horses – Season 6, Episode 3: Resurrection (2026) – Review
From the moment the episode opens on the lingering shock of River Cartwright walking into his late grandfather’s house and finding someone he has spent years mourning, the episode locks in with confidence. What follows is not simply a reunion or a chase sequence, but a densely packed, darkly comic, and emotionally sharp episode as the season hits its stride. The title is more than apt; this is an episode about people and threats that refuse to stay buried, about professional lies that create living ghosts, and about the peculiar, dysfunctional family that is Slough House assembling itself under pressure.

After a string of star-studded, ghost-related romps, it seemed that the minds behind Dark Castle films fancied trying something far more subtle than the rambunctious likes of The House On Haunted Hill, Thirteen Ghosts and Ghost Ship. To be fair, considering that all three of those films featured characters aimlessly wandering around various, haunted structures while waiting to be attacked by some violent apparition in an explosion of flashy 90s/00s editing, a change was probably something of a wise move.

Woah. It really does seem that the quality found in the dying episodes of season 5 are really drying up fast. We began the run with episodes that not only contained deliriously wild stories and supremely fucked-up characters ("People Who Live In Brass Hearses" is a prime example), but also found innovative ways to put those twisted tales on screen, with Tim Curry playing an entire, inbred family in "Death Of Some Salesmen" immediately springing to mind.

From its opening moments to its haunting final frames, the The Crossroads delivers a relentless, pulse-pounding episode that takes the series to new heights of intensity and emotional complexity. It's penultimate episode time, and when you actually sit back and consider just how much ground Lanterns has covered in the past six episodes, I was starting to wonder just where else it could possibly go. With multiple time hops that took in the unique childhood of John Stewart, an alien invasion plot set in 2016 and a whodunit set a decade later, the show has certainly managed to keep itself busy despite going relatively light on the famously "space" part of the space-cop world(s) of Green Lantern.

Tales From The Crypt – Season 5, Episode 11: Oil’s Well That Ends Well (1993) – Review
Does anyone else get the feeling that Tales From The Crypt front-loads all of its best episodes at the start of the season? While there's been a few exceptions to the rule, the fact that season 5 has delivered its first, true stinker so late in the game kinda lends credence to my theory. Despite sporting an absolute cracker of a title in the form of "Oil's Well That Ends Well", the resulting episode proves to be a crass, flat, season low point that offers little in the way of laughs, shocks, or even basic surprises.

Wind Chill (2007) – Review
Telling a simple, stripped-back, ghost story can be something of a complex task. Obviously you have to assemble appropriately creepy surroundings to fully drive home the supernatural occurrences, and ensure that the lore that lurks within carries sufficient weight to deliver effective scares that burrow beneath the skin and chill the blood. Well, if chilling the blood is in order, 2007 horror flick, Wind Chill, certainly has the promise to succeed simply by ensuring that events occur in distinctly below zero temperatures, as a winter rideshare takes a sinister detour along a stretch of road with far more dangerous hazards than black ice.

It's a fairly impressive feat of restraint, as the MCU, even in its grittier, TV incarnation, isn't exactly renowned for keeping things subtle - but even if Jones' downplayed attitude is possibly born more out of a necessity to keep the budgets down, it manages to fit the character like a battered, worn, leather jacket.

Why don't more international auteurs make break-neck action flicks? OK, so maybe offering someone with an eclectic world view a big pile of cash to film huge explosions might be incredibly risky when it comes to making some of that money back (the world still remembers David Lynch's Dune), but sci-fi/action movies would certainly be more interesting if that was the case.

Neagley – Season 1, Episode 8: Touched (2026) – Review
Touched delivers a action packed, emotionally charged finale that brings Frances Neagley’s first solo investigation to a satisfying close while proving the spin-off can stand firmly on its own. Prime Video’s Reacher expansion has spent seven episodes building a tight personal mystery around the apparent suicide of Frances Neagley’s childhood friend Tommy Crane. Episode 8 pays off that investment with an explosive assault on Echo Canyon Farm, revelations about the drug Tranqlara and the people behind it, and a quieter but more devastating confrontation with the ghosts of Neagley’s past.

Song 2 delivers an episode of escalating tension, character depth, and ruthless efficiency that cements the series as one of the best crime dramas around right now. From the start, the episode establishes a quiet dread that never lets up. Harry Da Souza trails his daughter Gina as she parties with Eddie Harrigan and their bodyguards. There is a sadness to the surveillance, he wants to protect her and shields her from the life yet he has the knowledge that Gina has already begun dipping into the family’s world of protection schemes and online creator shakedowns.

Jessica Jones – Season 2, Episode 11: AKA Three Lives And Counting (2018) – Review
And here. We. Go! After ten whole episodes of gradually building dread and tension while Jessica Jones' life was once again picked apart by a super powered antagonist who could get under her skin with unerring ease, it's time for all these straining plot threads to simultaneously snap at the absolute worst moment. I've mentioned numerous times that this season of Jessica Jones may have been on the more deliberate side when it came to pacing, but it's rather slow nature has been worth it when it's ultimately proved to be one of the most consistent seasons that's ever come out of the Marvel/Netflix union.

Neagley – Season 1, Episode 7: Lebron’s No Jordan (2026) – Review
Lebron's No Jordan delivers a taut, character-driven episode that keeps the Reacher spin-off firing on all cylinders while deepening the personal stakes for its lead and her unlikely allies. Maria Sten continues to own the role of Frances Neagley with a performance that balances steely competence and quiet vulnerability. As the investigation into her childhood friend’s suspicious death stalls and larger forces close in, Sten’s Neagley is forced to confront buried family history.

Heart Of The Beast (2026) – Review
While the familiar adage franticly warns people to avoid working with children or animals, some filmmakers just can't help putting a loveable dog at the centre of their movies. The latest to do so is none other than David Ayer, a director whose filmography suggests that he was beyond such cuddly, puppo worship. When not rolling around in some grimy, urban surroundings, examining the pros and cons of morals-free, hyper-masculinity, the director was last seen helming two Jason Statham action flicks on the bounce - but just because Ayer has moved on to a man and his dog movie, it doesn't mean he's suddenly made Marley & Me with extra tattoos.

In the right set of hands, any genre can play to any audience, even one that might not think that a particularly type if film is their cup of tea. Some examples over the years include movies such as Skyfall, Godzilla Minus One and The Substance scoring big with people who wouldn't normally be caught dead watching the likes of James Bond, Kaiju, or extreme body horror.

As Jessica Jones continues its deliberate, winding path to whatever gut-wrenching mother/daughter endgame it has in store, we find that episode 10 has moved the goal posts more than an earthquake at the World Cup. When we last left the show, Jessica had finally realised that Alisa may be her long lost mother, but she's also an unrepentant killer and needs to be put away for the protection of everyone.

Slow Horses – Season 6, Episode 2: Daddy Issues (2026) – Review
Slow Horses has always thrived on its particular brand of grimy, cynical excellence, the kind that makes bureaucratic failure and personal dysfunction feel like the only honest response to the intelligence world. Daddy Issues continues that tradition with a steady, escalating sense of dread laced with the series’ trademark dry wit. It builds directly on the premiere’s funeral atmosphere and scattered killings, tightening the noose around anyone who has worked at Slough House.
