Actual France vs Spielberg's France An absolute soul-crushing abomination. Stripping all color, joy, and life from a breathtaking place and replacing it with grab gray sludge. This isn't art. It's war. credits - SPR image: filmaffinity.com, Beach image: beachsearcher.fr
Two beach images, the top one an empty pebble beach, cliffs in far distance, blue sky, a few seaside buildings, a handful of seagulls (seagulls are more than a handful, their flying chaos, but hey). Image has been flipped horizontally. It looks like a nice - stony - beach. There is a fair chance I've been there as a kid.

Image below is a screengrab from Saving Private Ryan looking down through barbed wire onto soldiers running up a beach from landing craft. There is smoke, bodies, and a large dominating pill box to the right.

#Alt4u Image with (subjective!) alt text for bar graph showing CO2 produced by food products per kg produced. tl;dr Beef herd produces over twice as much CO2 as other foods production. Nuts, some fruits, and potatoes almost zero.
Graph titled "Animal-based foods tend to have a larger carbon footprint". We then have a fairly extensive bar graph list of foods, from Beef to Nuts, with a bar showing the CO2 produced per kg of each.

Quick summary: Beef herd is at the top. Beef herd produces almost 60kg of CO2 while the rest of the list produces 25kg and less. Nuts is almost zero. A bit more detail follows as best I can, feel free to skip.

I'm going to generalize as there are 40 plus entries, so please don't quote me! And I'm going to divide into four groups based approximately on CO2 produced.

At the bottom we have seeds, nuts, fruit, oats, peas with a fairly negligible effect (1kg or so CO2 produced).

We then have foods such as Poultry, various oils including Soybean oil, Eggs, Rice, Tofu, Milk, and sugars, again, not a complete list, all at about 5kg CO2 produced in descending order.

Now we have some high carbon footprint foods at 5kg and greater CO2 produced including Lamb and mutton, Cheese, Beef (dairy herd), Dark Chocolate, Coffee, Palm oil and pork.

Finally - and emphasized in the graph by the red bar that stretches across the entire image - we have Beef herd (as opposed to Beef dairy herd) which produces almost 60kg of CO2 per kg produced. Lamb and mutton are at approx 24 kg, Cheese and Beef dairy herd 21kg, and Dark Chocolate 19kg, for comparison.

Not Friday and not 4, but The Drama & It Was Just an Accident both superb, wasn't leaving either off, Zendaya & Pattinson great in anti-romcom, Accident very funny & very tragic & very good. Enjoyed Undertone more than most, enjoyed Ready or Not 2 less than I hoped #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

Ready or Not 2 so so sequel and Gueles Noires okay mining mummy horror - both worth a watch. Sadly couldn't finish Match, a dating/Basket Case horror with the always great Humberly González, so shout out to her. YMMV, so give it a try, and respect for the practical effects.

Nice space graphic* of Earth and our Moon and the trajectory of Artemis II from launch to a loop round the Earth and another loop (I hadn't noticed that till now), and then up a loop round the Moon and back down to Earth, another loop, and splashdown (touch wood - this is the first time since ancient times when man first stepped on the Moon that we'll have proof that the Earth isn't flat, again, so wishing them a safe return). I've stuck an info panel on the picture pointing to an early stage in the process that says "Everyone really done with me asking to borrow their phone charger". Which was mildly amusing when I thought of it, less so now I've had to make it.

*I should have noted the source of the original graphic, my bad. But it is only a Google search away. Or Duck Duck Go. I used Duck Duck Go.

Screenshot of Twitter/X post from James (@GoodVibePolitik) shows a darkened skyline, presumably Cuba, a tower block with a few floors lit, possibly a hospital, and a dark street lit by a single car.

Text reads: There's something supremely saddening and enraging about seeing a hospital running on bare minimum power. Thinking about dialysis patients, babies in NICU, and others tonight in Cuba. This is a blockade of death.

FYI: a further post (not shown here) from James read: A friend in Cuba just notified me that every single patient in that hospital that was on ventilators died tonight. I don't have words.

#alt4u image with alt text Further reading (kpler, source of graph figures): www.kpler.com/blog/global-...
Graph from the Financial Times labelled "Fertiliser exports through the Strait of Hormuz have collapsed" and "Daily fertiliser transits through the Strait of Hormuz, by country of origin". Countries of origin are Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iran.

Exports over month look to typically be 50 to 150 units (not defined, perhaps tonnes), with a peak in Feb 23rd of 200 units. This drops to zero March 2nd. There are Saudi exports around the 7th March, then nothing again.

Graph time frame is only a month (Feb 14th to March 13th), and there have been empty days during this time period, but (to my untrained eye) the drop off is abrupt. The graph has a 10 day average line to highlight this.

Cartoon by Dave Brown, The Independent, 2026.

Shows a deranged/determined Netanyahu at the controls of a dive bombing fighter jet. Trump has pulled his ejector seat and is flying out the top of the plane but is being dragged along as the end of his ridiculously long red tie is clenched between Netanyahu's teeth.

Good looking cartoon. Netanyahu wearing a brown flying jacket, Trump in a bright blue suit, plane's canopy against pastel clouds and sky, plane in brutal blues.

I'm all for jailbreaks. Technically. Hi-max criminally insane, maybe less so. But think this paragraph could read a little less "isn't it annoying when you buy a stolen kindle and it's been locked". 🤔
small Good E Reader screen grab that says:

One of the good aspects about this new jailbreak method is that it works on blacklisted devices, which are units that Amazon has blocked from its services, often reported as lost or stolen. This is useful if you buy a Kindle on a 3rd-party marketplace such as eBay or Facebook Marketplace, where it is hard to know whether it has been blacklisted due to being stolen.

#alt4u Image with Alt text. TW for language and white male online exploitation of girls.
Four pictures of a white male, 30s (I'm guessing) serving 10 years for online exploitation of girls.

First picture a portrait head and shoulders of the white male who exploited girls wearing a grey suit with pocket square, white shirt, red tie and a lapel badge that I'm not going to search for because its probably some group advocating for girls and this white male exploited that. No surprise there. Maybe its a badge for exploiting girls and the signs were there all the time, I don't know.

Second picture white male exploiter is wearing a god-awful logo covered black suit in what looks to be - surprise! - a classroom environment. There are white boards and desks. Perhaps this is the Upper School he worked at. He is wearing white shoes. The signs were there.

Third picture we're in a public bathroom because of course we are. Its a selfie of the white male exploiter wearing all black, perhaps before an exploitation session? Who's to know? Not a great selfie, but it is SFW, unlike him.

Last picture white male girl exploiter in sports gear outside, sunglasses, "Spartan" headband, holding something on his shoulder (perhaps a helmet) and throwing horns with his left hand, hard to tell if this is just before, during, or after an exploitation of the young and vulnerable, but fuck him.

I enjoyed reading Philip K Dick as a kid. Read most of his work, including his most paranoid amphetamine fuelled fiction. Really didn't need to see it become our new reality.
Post from Aaron Rupar showing Stephen Miller smiling on Fox News, the caption reading "Operation Epic Fury in Full Swing", saying "Theres never in history been a more total asymmetric one-sided annihilation of the enemy than what is unfolding right now in Iran"Post from maccao (@orcbara.bsky.social) that reads: if your phone game starts to be designed around an "auto" mode where the gameplay is replaced with just watching the game happen i think you need to scrap the whole thing and try again. nothing compromises the fun of a game quite as much as autobattle.Post from Steve Held (@peoplesfabric.bsky.social) that reads: This is bonkers, with a news quote reading "According to the school district, her daughter's new student enrollment form was denied due to 'license plate recognition software showing only Chicago addresses overnight' in July and August."

Below that is a news story from nbcchicago.com with a photo of a "School District 126, Powers Wassaro Lehman Administrative Center" that reads "Suburban school district uses license plate readers to verify student residency. A mom says a suburban school district is erroneously denying her daughter's enrollment because of data from a license plate reader company."Post from Neon Genesis Ewangelion (@ewacat.bsky.social) that reads "This is so tragic it's actually incredibly funny" and a bbc.co.uk news screen grab that reads - and the last paragraph is the kicker:

In first study of its kind, Cambridge researchers found Al toys could misread some children's emotions.

The parents in the study were interested in the toy's potential to teach language and communication skills.

However, their children frequently struggled to converse with it. Gabbo didn't hear their interruptions, talked over them, could not differentiate between child and adult voices and responded awkwardly to declarations of affection.

When one five-year-old said, "I love you," to the toy, it replied: "As a friendly reminder, please ensure interactions adhere to the guidelines provided. Let me know how you would like to proceed."
