@egilhagen.bsky.social You asked me about Australian weather! Heading for four days around forty degrees where we are in Melbourne. We only got over the last heatwave three days ago.

Listening to Jim Maxwell and Alan McGilvray’s grandson on ABC radio presenting the Alan McGilvray Medal for Cricketer of the Year to Pat Cummins….and what do we have on Channel 7? Filler. This is petty.

Love that? Why not Big Bird? The Windies were a sensational side… calypso cricket and good looking blokes. My other favourite hottie was Thomson. The crowd build up with his run up at the MCG was the best. Here’s two for one.

That was an excellent program. 💗 Grand Designs. Loved her enthusiasm for trying to reduce her footprint and be self sustainable. I am not sure about incinerator loos though...in terms of needing more power to run them than she had, thanks to the council not approving her solar panels.

Totally in agreement. Unnecesary to make an edict like that. They will catch the arsonists and let the law deal with them. Meanwhile the tobacco wars firebombings are around the 120 mark… last month people above a convenience store nearly lost their lives. A bigger worry.

Two security guards and all calm. After a dreadful morning. As a side note, a school bus owned by an Islamic school torched in Adelaide in a suspected terrorist attack and that barely made the news a day ago. It’s been almost forgotten already. It’s interesting how the cycle of news is reported.

Just listening to an American warning people not to travel to Australia. As awful as the firebombing of the synagogue was….in-laws family have lived down that street since the 1920s and still own a shop there. I don’t want to foster hysteria. We parked next to it later that day and went to dinner.

Several countries in there like us in Australia, have universal health care. I don’t pay a cent for outpatients appointments with top specialists/public hospital surgery and my GP bulk bills. My medications are subsidised under our PBS scheme and I hit the Safety Net early in May so meds are free!

A classic case of FAFO. I don't care about the supermarket bottom line. I care about the workers in this case. You put people under constant pressure to compete against their colleagues with timekeeping/productivity....you increase their mental health issues. And we shoppers go elsewhere.

I’m a retired RN and I don’t get repeated infections. Luckily. Mine is instantly cured by heavy doses of short term cortisone (leaves me symptom free) but you can’t stay on it due to side effects. I have bottles of it here on hand for prn. It’s a histamine response. Linked to hay fever. Melbourne!!!

A friend of mine was here as an exchange student. His teacher described Melbourne weather as ‘transitionally nasty’. Not far wrong. I remember one Xmas Eve where it was in the 40s with out of control bushfires in the High Plains. The temp dropped and it snowed. In Summer. Put the fires out.

A Melbourne university runs a pollen count. Well worth looking at the app which gives us life saving information. Melbourne is said to have four seasons in one day. A roaring 40C hot northerly then a rapid supercell develops, instant thunderstorm with rain/high winds - pollen carried everywhere.

I think here, in my city which has notoriously unpredictable weather, you are exposed to so many allergens. If you read the article, the pollen explodes into microscopic pieces…it bursts. You can’t escape it except to hermetically seal yourself in your home. www.health.vic.gov.au/environmenta...

So I guess, living where I do, makes respiratory issues more complex. Hay fever is commonplace. Even if you don’t have diagnosed asthma or hay fever, you could get thunderstorm asthma. You have to shut every window and door, stay inside, take your preventative meds. That night in 2016 was scary.

Cortisone 50 x 5 days when I can’t breathe at all. We have plane trees and pollen everywhere here and daily pollen counts and thunderstorm asthma alerts with daily weather forecasts. Antihistamine hay fever tablets don’t work for me.

I wonder how many people like me, ended up with COPD/bronchiectasis from a rapid onset severe lung infection caused by RSV. Bilateral partial atelectasis and bronchopneumonia. I was perfectly fine until this happened out of the blue. RSV is a killer. Never had covid either/immunised by 6 times.

The first Tesla I saw in Australia years ago was with a man in his nineties driving through my shopping centre going through stop signs. Then I realised how dangerous they could be in the wrong hands. I am pretty sure he was on autopilot.
