Maybe something with circulation or blood pressure? I wish i knew. I know is that I can't even solve it with my electric heating pad and warm clothes.

Wait, it isn't just me?? (In my case, a hot shower is the only thing that will warm me up.)

Do they come over to play with the lads, or have these kids just determined that your yard is a fun place?

Thank you!! My 13yo will be out trick or treating this year! And I give extra candy to teens when they come to my door. Let them have fun and do silly kid stuff.

OH NO

There is a website called Cinema Clock that sounds like what you're describing. It brings together all the showtimes in a location, and I've noticed it has Portland on its list of locations (I can only attest to its accuracy for my Canadian city, however).

Same same. (I presume you're also a Blue Castle girly? I need to go and reread that.)

I think this was the rationale when much of Canada adopted the August Long Weekend, with its random name of "Civic Holiday." (Many provinces have turned it into a holiday celebrating something, but it started off as just a holiday for the sake of a holiday at the beginning of August.)

Maryanne @westprocrasti.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
Hard same. (Meanwhile, I have my own co-op number now and have to check my card every time I use it.)

My kid comfortably rode a balance bike from a tiny age, and then didn't get comfortable riding a regular bike until she was 12. Nothing matters; embrace the tricycle.

People used to call my old 2-door 1988 Tercel hatchback "The Clown Car" because I'd haul so much gear plus several very tall friends in it. I miss it so much. (I'm jealous that your Corolla can handle a canoe! We tried it in our current car and the roof started to cave in.)

I feel this part. (Canada Post lost a freelance cheque that was sent from Toronto to Regina in April, and I ended up having to have the client cancel and reissue; I just finally received the new cheque yesterday).

You know, I've had great success freezing whole, unpeeled ginger! (We bought a few produce boxes from Flash Foods that we thought were going to just have a little ginger plus fruit, but turned out to be boxes full of ginger with a little fruit on top.)

I do this too! Even with my softened water, it helps a ton.

This sounds ridiculous, but when I have to wash my hair with hard water, I keep a squeeze bottle of apple cider vinegar with me, and put that through my hair while I'm rinsing. I don't know why it works, but it really helps me!

Of course, a gardener's cottage would be much cooler even without AC, with stone floors and thick walls. (But with the trade off of ceilings and door frames so low that you just have to walk around while folded in half.)

What?! I presumed you went with a character building with 400-year-old windows, and that's why they didn't open. This place is NEW?!

They should run the AC in that North room, for more than an hour without it shutting itself off, first.

Oh definitely, although this album design could also take this band in a banjo and fiddle direction.

Okay, I know that everyone always says that pictures of the lads look like album covers, but c'mon. Incredible album cover.

You know, sometimes your posts make me miss living in the PNW, but this reminds me of how much I HATED ants in the house there. I became an unhinged creature, following them with a flashlight to find out where they were coming inside. Hate ants in the house.

I received the long form census for the first time! I was thrilled to run around and count rooms in the house.

Oh for sure! I was just thinking about how I am not at all nostalgic for the hassle of the handwritten papers and of paying for photocopies from the microfilm reader, but I am weirdly nostalgic for that time when new technology actually made my life better (as opposed to now).

Speaking from the dividing line between the generations: I miss when new technology actually made research better and more reliable. My first journal database search, which turned weeks of research into 30 seconds. Saving PDFs of microfilm scans. OneNote making my notes searchable.

I'm writing this while listening to my husband reading out loud to our 13 year old, because (while she reads alone plenty) this daily routine is her favourite part of the day. I just don't get wanting to skip this precious thing.

Two Canadian Football League teams also have community ownership that's run by a non-profit board (used to be more, but only two remain now: Saskatchewan Roughriders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers).

Hahaha oh no (cries a little) (I live several hours north of Fargo, and that's why I get all wistful whenever you post garden stuff in like February or March).

But not on any of the kids! (I miss your old records of what you spilled on your babies.) (That sounds weird to anyone who doesn't know your lore.)

Good to know! The pictures I saw in my catalogue just be really really close up, because they look deceptively showy! But let's be honest: I'm growing them so that I can say I'm into growing scented geraniums rather than for looks.
020
Maryanne @westprocrasti.bsky.social · 10/04/2026
Oh no, how bad do these look? (Asking as someone who is growing chocolate mint geraniums from seed for the first time, entirely based on seed catalogue description.)

Maybe it's extended family members or friends offloading spare KA parts on you, because you're the sort that owns a stand mixer. (Also, I got a new bowl for my proline, and now my paddle and whisk are too small for the bowl, even though the bowl fits the mixer! You didn't replace a bowl, did you?)

I don't get what a smart dishwasher can even do differently? Like, you still have to load it and put in detergent and press a button. My (not smart, 6 year old) Bosch gives me error codes straight on the little display and the error code meanings are in the manual and online. Am I missing something?

My friends are visiting San Diego too (it's currently -23C where we live) and they're cracking up about everyone panicking about this cold snap. They had the zoo basically to themselves a couple of days ago!

With the cat's toys, or in the potato bin, or deep in the arm of a living room chair, or in someone's shoes, or there might be a secret stash of missing items in the back corner of a closet. Do your walls have any hollow places accessible to young lads?

I have one (got my first one when I lived on Vancouver Island, because the dark in the winter there is ROUGH) and they really work. UBC SAD clinic has good info & research, but what you're looking for is a 10,000 lux light (they specify white light). It fixed my weird sleep too.

When I was a kid, CBC made a commercial-free kids' show called Street Cents, which kind of was like that! A lot of critical analysis of commercials and media, and a feature where shoddy products targeted at kids were thrown into a fiery pit. (Speaking of positive screen time...)

Oh no, I looked up how many sleeps are left until ours and hurt my own feelings. (114 sleeps to go)

Honestly, my Android phone is doing weird things with its ringing too. (If I have it set to vibrate, it silences itself if I have it in my pocket.)
