Finding the right TV for our PAX booth isn’t just about specs and price! The 2D art and colors can look wildly different depending on the setup! Huge thanks to Video Only for letting us commandeer their TVs to find the right one 📺

War of the Western Deep is an adventure game at heart, with puzzles, exploration, and fun dialogue, but it’s ALSO got: ⚔️ Sword duels! 🧭 Optional quests! 🏋️‍♀️ RPG-style character improvement! And it all takes place in one big interconnected forest. 🗺️🌲🌳🪾

We’re hard at work on our new upcoming PAX West demo for War of the Western Deep! Featuring Maggie Robertson, @luciendodge.bsky.social, and the incredible @samanthabeart.bsky.social as our protagonist, Mirren, we can’t wait for players to experience it this September!

Much as we’ve come to appreciate the convenience of remote VO sessions, there’s just something special about having everyone working together in the studio! Thanks so much to @samanthabeart.bsky.social and @jonahscott.bsky.social for making this week so much fun!

Ever wonder what the raw data of a VO session for War of the Western Deep looks like? We snapped a pic through Zoom of audio director Lucas Fehring's ProTools setup after an incredible session last week with @samanthabeart.bsky.social. Each colored marker is a line read we want to keep!

Thanks to @cervidian.bsky.social's support, War of the Western Deep's director @tdcpresents.bsky.social was able to leave his studio job to work on it full-time! In an era of slashed budgets and big-AI, know that there are still people out there interested in small-scale, classically made games!

War of the Western Deep is brought to life by far more than its hand-drawn animation and incredible voice cast. The immersive sound design by Lucas Fehring and incredible musical score by @nolanmarkey.bsky.social (presented here) are absolutely essential to the experience!

War of the Western Deep @westerndeep.bsky.social · 25/03/2026

We're thrilled to announce that @luciendodge.bsky.social has joined the voice cast of War of the Western Deep! It has been so much fun working with Lucien again after his incredible work on Dust: An Elysian Tail, and we think folks will love his take on this gruff canid soldier!

You won't need the latest technologies or snazzy 3DFX accelerator cards to experience War of the Western Deep exactly as intended. Turns out one of the best ways to future-proof your game is to embrace the oldest techniques and make them part of your visual identity.

War of the Western Deep @westerndeep.bsky.social · 06/03/2026

We're recording the VO for this grumpy guy today! We think you'll love who we have doing it :) This (still very WIP) battle is COMPLETELY OPTIONAL in our upcoming PAX West demo. Mirren can either bribe this soldier or draw her blade and fight! Wishlist today! store.steampowered.com/app/2976440/...

We're excited to be able to share the latest page of Beyond the Western Deep this weekend! We know a lot of folks have been curious about tamian treewalker hunts since we first mentioned them in the prologue. Well, they're pretty intense!

War of the Western Deep @westerndeep.bsky.social · 08/11/2025

New enemies are starting to materialize throughout the forests of the Border Coast! This crafty fellow has impeccable aim--and Mirren can't simply dodge his daggers. She'll need to find another way to knock them out of the air...

War of the Western Deep @westerndeep.bsky.social · 27/10/2025

That last animation we posted was a bit blurry so here's the game-quality version!

War of the Western Deep @westerndeep.bsky.social · 24/10/2025

Mirren visits the tiny village of Ardmoor many times throughout her journey, and her growing relationships with the townsfolk (like Finn the Innkeeper here) are a big part of the game!

War of the Western Deep @westerndeep.bsky.social · 19/10/2025

This canid soldier looks a bit peeved, huh? These guys show up occasionally to guard forest paths, so he probably won't take kindly to nosy royal couriers trying to sneak past him...

Because Sunsgrove Studios is a fully remote team, we don't have a conventional studio space like other developers. In actuality, our always-on Discord server serves that purpose, allowing for all the interactions you'd expect from any game development team!
