Tompkins @pftompkins.bsky.social · 19/09/2026It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this. 354163184192
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 10/09/2026One of my minor quibbles with Forgotten Land was that it felt like a lot of copy ability movesets got simpler (somewhat balanced by how being 3D added depth), so I'm really excited to see they're going further with it now. 020
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Years back my arachnophobia got bad enough that looking at a spider made me nauseous. I decided the next time I saw one I would force myself to stare at it until that feeling went away. I guess that's more brute force than strategy but it did work. 010

Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 02/08/2026For the record though I'm nowhere near done with postgame and a lot of what I'm saying is based off of my hopes. If it turns out that the ultimate challenges don't push as hard as I want, then I'll be disappointed. Anyway yeah the story is nothing. Lore does not equal engaging writing for me. 000
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 02/08/2026Ultimately though, it feels to me like SR but with some fun progression at first, and then the complexity of build variety and more complex tools to use, and I adore that. I just wanna hop into raids and lock in in the same way I do for SR. 110
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 02/08/2026But if the style doesn't hit for you I 100% understand losing interest. The main story definitely could have been harder, and I can see it feeling like cheap gadget-spamming thrills along the way. It had to be easy enough even on Survivalist to let most people beat it. 100
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 02/08/2026That way, the postgame is what pushes you to play better. I'm playing the postgame for that hectic feeling to keep going and escalate, and I want the rewards to stay minor so that my power doesn't keep up with the difficulty, but there's just not nothing. 100
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 02/08/2026It feels to me like the point is to get to where you can keep doing those hard SR-style raids indefinitely, and the main story is just to teach you the mechanics and give you some fun progression. The progression has to halt/hit diminishing returns while the challenges get harder. 120
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 02/08/2026Also the SR-like objectives and boss synergies just give a pressure that SO never did. I don't think Raiders captures everything great about SR but it gets a lot. And adds a lot of new. I saw some saying that it lacks incentives to keep playing post-game but to me this is the appeal. 110
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 02/08/2026SO was basically just another gamble-for-synergistic-builds roguelike, and it being all about building up main weapon power meant it typically culminated in spamming that rather than playing better. The gadgets being secondary and having cooldowns means you still have to be strategic. 110
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 02/08/2026I love it. It captures the hectic multitasking of Salmon Run for me where I'm constantly making subtle tactical decisions on what to prioritize, some without even thinking about it. The gadgets make for a way more fun formula than Side Order IMO. 110
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 02/08/2026in most contexts if an elderly person is in your way it's your responsibility to accommodate them. but if you're getting off the train and they're blocking you? outta my fuckin way grandma. 010
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 31/07/2026the premise of this movie always reminded me of fanfics built around cheap satisfaction. you get to feel cool just for knowing beatles songs, not putting in any work. not judging it in niche online stuff but it feels weird to see in a mainstream movie. 040
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Finally, I'd add that the fact that we presently value ideas over execution so much is possibly itself a consequence of corporate propaganda, as corporations are incentivized to invest in stories that can most effectively be further monetized through merchandising and other rent-seeking behavior. 000
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026All human creativity is inherently valuable. I fundamentally disagree with the idea of morally prescribing what forms of creativity are valid, especially if it's being codified into law. Humans naturally adapted and adjusted the tales they passed down orally, and humans naturally write fanfic. 100
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026And again, this change would unlock so many benefits. Consider a book like Gregory Maguire's Wicked. A popular book with new, valuable things to say. And literally just a fanfic. How many great Wicked-like stories have we been deprived of, because of copyright? 100
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Audiences would be encouraged to value the specific creators they like, and to value writing quality rather than ideas. This cultural shift would then also manifest in social pressures against copycat books. 100
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026If you're a good writer, then your sequel should still do fine based off of you having done good work, and from the name recognition of you being the creator. If fake sequels became a problem, we might see some abuse, but this would also help encourage a cultural shift in values. 100
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Beyond that, however: This may come down to a difference of values, but frankly, if someone else writes a better sequel to your book than you could, then I don't see a problem with them seeing greater success. Art should succeed off of quality of execution, not whether you had an idea years before. 100
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026This is part of why framing it as "ownership" is a problem. We've taken different laws with entirely different purposes, and wrapped them up into one oversimplified package called "IP". This prevents us from properly considering how they actually work, and how they can be adjusted! 100
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026And if you can't use the actual name for your fake sequel, then it's probably not going to get those unfair profits. (This is complicated by how current trademark law in the US applies to series names but not book titles, but if we're talking hypothetical law changes then this can be adjusted too.) 100
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026The purpose of copyright is to allow creators to make a reasonable profit with a temporary monopoly. The purpose of trademarks is to allow consumers to make informed decisions about what they purchase by disallowing copycat names and symbols. 100
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026What actually is it that makes it possible for a company to grab easy profits through pumping out unauthorized sequels? It's essentially just trying to fool people by using the name of a book/series/author to make it seem like the real thing. And that's what trademark protections are for. 100
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026I agree that big companies putting out false sequels would be a problem, but I'm skeptical of the idea that it would actually be practically harmful enough to outweigh the benefits, or that copyright is the best tool to combat it. The thing is, this makes more sense as a trademark issue. 100
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Why should it be illegal even with the same proper nouns? How does limiting some people's natural right to creatively express themselves as they see fit benefit the original author, much less make the world a better place? 100
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026I think a system designed to encourage human creativity should not end up functioning to disallow natural parts of it! 000
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026I value all human creativity, with minimal possible restrictions. And derivative works are a fundamental natural part of human creativity. Humans have always adapted other stories to make their own versions, from ancient times to modern fanfic. Current copyright law makes this technically illegal. 220
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026You shouldn't be able to print your own copies of someone else's book or painting and sell them, because that makes it harder for them to make a living and make more art. But that doesn't requiring "owning" ideas. 130
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Because the point of copyright should be to encourage the production of creative works for the greater public good, not to assert ownership. That's literally the origin of copyright, stopping people from printing copies so that creators could reasonably make money. Not deciding who owns things. 180
Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 28/07/2026I agree that there's some unrealistic idealism behind "everything would just naturally work out without IP" takes, but we're still for sure way too far in the other direction, and in general the viewpoint that copyright = property is bad and unnecessary IMO. 050

Werb @werbreadsmanga.bsky.social · 19/07/2026AI doesn't really "figure stuff out" like that. It's like a very big fancy autocorrect.
